Hi guys, I had seen bits of both movies and here are my thoughts about the movie. Here we go!
1956 Version
This version was more of a generally straightforward biopic of Alexander, his relationship with his parents are also shown, especially his close relationship with his mother, Olympias and his rocky relationship with Philip of Macedon.
In fact, this is the only accurate portrayal of Alexander the Great. I would definitely recommend this movie with the 2004 version, in which I'm going to explain the reason why soon.
2004 Version
Honestly, this has got to be the worse movie that I had ever seen, I hated the fact that Colin Farrell acts like a spoilt brat in this movie. The movie also promotes the Oedipus Complex, especially with Alexander's relationship with Olympias, his mother.
Secondly, what's up with all of the Irish accent? It's set in Macedonia and NOT in Ireland! In fact, if Colin Farrell weren't in this movie, the movie will be fine with Macedonian/ Greek accent.
Finally, it is unclear if Alexander was gay, he would go on to blame his wife for the death of Hephaiston. What a stupid idea he must had!
Sadly to say that this is the worse adaption of the famous Greek conqueror.
Conquer Your Fear!
So, there you have it and enjoy watching the 1956 version, skip the 2004 version if you can.
