Sierra dragged me behind a few trees to a meadow. I sat on the log and had sudden Déjà vu. This looks exactly like Edward’s meadow. Everything looks the same down to the very last flower. “You have déjà vu. I can tell. I fell in love with your brother’s meadow so when we passed here a few months ago I found this place and turned it into an exact replica.” “When did you see Edward’s meadow?” “When I followed you and Jasper. I wanted to see what a real family looked like. So I followed you. I’m so sorry if I upset you. It’s just that I wanted a family too. And this is far from family. So I figured if I had a meadow like Edward then my troubles would go away. And your brother is very handsome and his girlfriend is pretty too.” Ok. So she followed me, a while back? “When did you see Bella?” “Oh. That’s her name. Pretty. When Edward took her there. I was looking around writing down all the plants he had in the meadow and then I saw them come up a hill. I watched them for a second but then I stopped watching. I finished writing everything and came back here. I visit here all the time, no matter how far away we are. I have a thousand diaries and I hide them here. I’m not saying where I hide them but in my human life that was the only thing I was good at.” Ok. She has to be good at something else too. No one is only good at one thing. This is confusing. “But he would have known what you’re thinking. He can read minds.” “Yes, but Fran’s shield is always around us. So no matter where we go it goes with us. So he couldn’t hear me, well in my thoughts.” Oh. This is getting weirder and weirder. Do I really want to join a bunch of peeping toms? I guess I do. Stalking is a small price to pay for me to have my memories. Ugh. This is so confusing. I closed my eyes hoping this headache would go away. “Alice?” I opened my eyes. “What?” “I’m sorry I made you angry. I know we shouldn’t follow people like that but when you have no guidance from other vampires, it feels like we’re lost. We follow vampires and do what they do, and if we had you and Jasper in our family then we wouldn’t have to follow people. You could teach us the right way and we’d never follow another vampire again. We’ll just find vampires that are all by themselves and have no family, but I’d still rather you and Jasper not join.” Ok. So all they want is guidance but she doesn’t want us to join. “I’m not mad but if you were in my position you would understand why I’m acting like this. I’m confused!” “I was in your position but I chose the wrong choice. Alice, you should know this better than anyone. Alice? What’s more important? The past or the Future?” She looks so familiar! I can’t figure it out but it’s like we’re long lost sisters and we’re meeting again after a long, long time. She does have a point though. I remember this saying from a book. It said Don’t live in the past or you’ll miss your future. “You’re right Sierra but I need to know things! There are certain things I have to know!” “Alice! There is nothing you need to know, just what you want to know! Ok Alice I’m going to ask a question and answer it truthfully.” “Fine. I hope this helps.” “It does. Alice? If you were human and Jasper was human and you weren’t in the insane asylum and you and your best friend were by a giant cliff. Jasper and your friend both fall off the edge and now they are hanging on for there lives. Now Alice, Jasper is your Future and your best friend let’s call her Sierra, Sierra is your past. Alice you weren’t strong enough to pull them both up and they’re not strong enough to hold on until help comes. Who would you choose? Your past or your future?” “That’s a horrible question.” “Yes but it helped the others that Fran tried to get into our family. I don’t want this to happen to you.” “What happen to me?”
“I lost my family because of choosing my past over my future. I decided to leave after I got to see my past. They told me if I left I was welcome to come back. I wasn’t planning on coming back. My family lives the same way your family does. We’re vegetarians. I was a newborn when my family met Fran and Frank. It was only them when they met us. We found Cedric a month after they found me. My whole family was told the story and my whole family said no except me. I don’t know why but I couldn’t remember anything and I blamed my family for what happened to me. They weren’t the ones who bit me but I blamed them so I told Fran I’d join them. Since I was only a newborn I never stayed with them long enough to know the right way. I only knew that it’s better to drink animal blood than human blood. My family was devastated when they heard I’d go with Fran. So when I found them they told me I betrayed them and that I wasn’t welcome to stay with them and that I should stay with Fran. So I came back and I’ve stayed with them ever since. I have pleasant memories from my past but now I have many horrible memories from the future I chose. Please tell me who would you choose? Jasper your future or Sierra your past?” “I could never choose!!!” “Choose Alice! You’ll never be able to make a choice in time if you don’t answer this.” This is horrible I know what she’s trying to do and I appreciate it but I could never pick! “Alice, I’m begging you pick.” “I’d have to choose Sierra.” “Why?” “Because my future isn’t looking so great right now.” “Alice, now that you’ve answered my question you’ll be able to answer Fran’s question without much trouble. I hear Frank coming to give you your sneak peek.” Alice I have one question for you.” “Oh no not another question my head hurts enough already!” “It’s easy I swear.” “Fine go ahead.” “Can we be friends forever? No matter what happens and you’ll never ever forget me?” “Sure. Thank you Sierra.” “What are Best Friends for?” She smiled and walked away.
“Alice?” I jumped up. “How’s Jasper is he ok? I saw Cedric tackle him.” “He’s fine. Quite a trooper I might add.” “Frank can you come here a second?” “But Sierra…” “NOW!” “Alright Mrs. Bossy.” “What?” She pulled him away further I heard them whispering but I didn’t try to listen. My head was going crazy. I wonder what he’ll show me. I hope he shows me my sister. I want to see what she looks like because my Niece is very beautiful. She looks a little like me so I wonder what my sis looks like. “Ok Sierra. Alice? Ready for your blast to the past?” “As ready as I’ll ever be but one question. How do you get this kind of power?” “I loved history when I was human; I thought the past was more interesting than the Future. So now this is my gift and now you get a sneak peek.” “Alright, so do you hold my hand or do you touch my head?” “Where ever. It doesn’t matter.” “Ok. Take my hand then.” “Fine. Ready but we might want to sit down. It may be a while.” “Ok.” We both sat down on a log. I can’t believe I get to see my past. “Now I’m making no promises that what you see is good or bad. I do control what you see but I’m just going to let the first memory that pops in my head show. And you’ll be looking through your own eyes but you can’t control what you do. You’ll see me in the background. Ok?” “Ok. You can start.” “Here we go.”
It was a blur at first, fuzzy and you can’t see anything. Then I saw Frank waving at me. I looked back in front of me. We were outside on a playground. There was a girl she was a blur so I couldn’t see her face or anything. “Alice? We have to go back to our room now. Do you know what we’re having for lunch?” “We’re having soup today. I hope it’s better than the last time.” “Me too. The last time I found a hair in mine.” “Ewwww. That’s sick.” “Yeah well so is this place.” “I know.” She grabbed my hand and I grabbed hers. “Alice?” “Yeah?” “Can we be friends forever? No matter what happens and you’ll never ever forget me?” “I swear. We’ll be friends forever and ever. And how would I forget you? You’re my only friend in this whole place.” She smiled at me. “Good. I’ve needed a friend for a very long time now.” “I miss my family.” “We all do Alice but that’s why we find friends here. To make sure we don’t forget and when we start to our friends remind us of who’s out there waiting for us when we get out.” “You mean if we get out.” “You’ll get out but I’m not sure I’ll get out.” “How do you know I’ll get out?” “If you only tell me about your visions then it’ll be our secret and the nurses will tell your doctor you’re getting better and you’ll be out of here in no time.” “This is my first week here and already I made a friend. Why are you in here? You seem normal to me.” “I think I can control stuff.” “What do you mean?” “I can make a glass move or make a teddy bear dance.” “Cool. Why do you say think?” “Because I’m trying to pretend I don’t have it so I can get out of here.” “Well how long have you been here?” “Three years.” “Wow. Well try it on my bear.” “Shush Alice. We’ll get in trouble. Wait until we get in our room.” “Ok.” “Get in your room girls. It’s time for your medicines.” When the nurse turned her back I stuck out my tongue at the girl and she did the same thing I think. Everything’s so clear except her. We went in our rooms and sat on our beds. “Here Alice.” The nurse handed me a cup with little yellow pills in it and then she handed me a cup of water and waited for me to take the pills and drink the water. I looked toward the girl. She made her hand like a cup and put it to her mouth and made it look like she was drinking the water. So I did the same thing except with the pills and then I drank the water. I don’t like this place, it’s horrible. “Good. Have you seen any visions today Alice?” The girl started shaking her head no. “No ma’am. I haven’t seen the future all day today.” “That’s good. You might get out of here sooner than we thought.” I was smiling. I was excited at the thought of seeing my sister again. “Ok now it’s your turn.” She turned toward the girl. “Ok.” “Here you go.” “I haven’t seen a teddy bear move all day but I watch Alice poke me.” “Ok. Now take your medicine and I’ll bring you lunch and then Alice you’ll go see the doctor.” “Ok. Bye.” “Bye ma’am.” “Bye girls.” She closed the door behind her and we heard her lock the door. “You didn’t have to tell her I poked you but she seems nicer than the other nurses.” “I did too, if I tell her you poke me she’ll give us more toys and we can play with them. She’s the nicest nurse in the whole building. When I first came here she was assigned as someone else’s nurse but she heard what I was going through and immediately asked to be my nurse instead. She sneaks me a chocolate bar every Sunday.” “Cool. Will she get me one too?” “Not at first but I talked to her and she said she’ll bring you one too if you behave.” “Good.” “Alice any warning coming from the lunchroom?” “Betty is fighting with the mirror again and that short nurse with the black hair made us green jello but she mashed something in the jello so what should we do?” “Do what I always do. I put it in the plant. But so the nurses won’t notice when they cleaning I dig a small hole then I put the jello and then I put dirt over it.” “Before I came how did you know something was in it?” “I didn’t always know but sometimes I would see something in it so I put it in the plant.” “Oh. What would happen if you eat it?” “I’d get knocked out and they’d put me in a chair and sometimes I’d get shocked and other times I’d just fall asleep. It depends if I think I made something move or not.” “Oh. Sorry you got shocked. Can you make my bear move? My sister gave her to me when I was six years old. She’s never talked to me and she’s never helped me clean. She’s a very lazy bear.” “Ok. Let’s see if she’ll help clean now but Alice warn me if someone is coming.” “I promise I’ll warn you.” “Ok, watch.” I looked at Frank he was pointing to his wrist like there was a watch there. Time must be running out. I looked at my bear. She was dancing and then she started dusting. “Wow. This is so cool. Thank you.” “No problem. What’s best friend for?” “Stop incoming nurse!!” The bear fell to the ground and the nurse served our lunch and everything started to fade. I didn’t want to go away now. I wanted to keep watching! I tried to reach out my hand toward the girl so I could hold her hand and never let go but like Frank said I was only allowed to watch, I can’t change what I did those years ago.
The next thing I knew we were back in the meadow. “Frank! Couldn’t you have given me like two more minutes?!” “I’m sorry Alice but it’s been like two hours here! What was I suppose to do?!” “Two hours? I thought it was five minutes.” “Well a few minutes there is a few hours here.” “Frank? Fran needs you. Jasper wants to know what you showed Alice.” “Sierra you know I can’t do that.” “Yeah well he don’t. Just explain it to him.” “Fine. See ya later Alice.” “Frank?” “Yeah?” “Why was that girl fuzzy in my memory?” “What? Oh. Coming Fran! Sorry Alice, Fran’s calling.” “No she’s not.” But by then he was gone and Sierra was leaning against a tree. “So. What’s the verdict? In or out?” “Can you stop asking that? It’s hard to think right now.” “Sorry. So what do ya see? Let me guess. Insane Asylum?” “Yeah. How did you know?” “Lucky guess. So liked what you saw or not so much?” “I couldn’t see much. My friend was all fuzzy and the nurse wasn’t much to look at. And who likes looking at pills?” “Sounds like fun.” Why is she smiling? Is my history amusing to her? “Sorry. I like to smile.” “No problem.” “I thought I should let you know after talking to you I wanted to talk to my old family again.” “That’s great, so what happened?” “They said they needed time to heal and they would be glad to have me back.” “Why haven’t you left yet?” “Well, I wanted to say goodbye. It’s not very nice to leave without telling your best friend goodbye.” “Ok. So go tell Fran goodbye and then leave.” “Not Fran silly. I was talking about you.” “How am I your best friend? I hardly know you.” “Yes but I know you and you said you’d be my best friend forever remember?” Oh yeah. I forgot she asked me that. But my head is killing me. When will I get the right answer? “Alice, you’re my friend no matter what. I’m going to give you some advice, no matter how dark the future looks everything works out for the best. The world has a plan. Whether it’s a good plan or a bad one it doesn’t matter because the good plan will have bad times and the bad plan will have good times.” That makes sense. “Thanks Sierra.” “What are best friends for? So, you got your answer?” “Yeah, I think I do.” “Good. So who did you pick this time? Sierra or Jasper?” “I picked Jasper.” “Great! Well Alice now that you made your decision I must go. Bye Alice. I’ll never ever forget you. Maybe I’ll visit you and your family one day.” “Bye Sierra. I hope you do. Tell your family I said hello.” “Sure and tell Jasper I said goodbye.” “Of course. Bye Sierra.” Bye Alice. And Alice?” “Yeah?” “My diaries are buried under that plant. Read them when you start to forget me.” “I could never forget you.” “That’s what you said the first time.” “What did you say?” “Nothing.” With that she started running back to her home where she belonged.
“Alice?” “Yeah Frank?” “Where’s Sierra going?” “Back to her old family.” “Oh. Well that sucks we need her skills, Cedric and I heard a fight when we were coming back with Jasper and now they’re headed this way.” “What skills?” “Uh, Alice. I think someone missed you.” He was smiling and pointing behind me. A small brown bear came out of the dirt. It was the same bear from my memory. The one my sister gave me. It started dancing and then it was dusting. “You are a very lazy bear. Aren’t you?” That was not funny. My bear that I lost thousands of years ago comes out of the dirt and he says something like, you are a very lazy bear” “Go meet Alice you dumb bear. I’m sure she missed you.” “I didn’t even remember her until ten minutes ago.” “Yes well, she missed you. Grab the bear and come on. I heard you tell Sierra that you had your answer.” The bear came walking to me and stopped. Right before she fell to the ground she waved her hand goodbye. I picked her up. She was so clean. For a few thousand year old bear she looked like new. “Go ahead Frank I’ll be there in a minute.” “Fine.”
I held the bear and walked over to the hole she came out of. In it was a trunk. It was filled with books with Sierra’s name on the covers. At the top was a blanket and the shape the blanket made was the shape of a bear. The key was in the lock of the trunk. I took the bear and placed her gently back on the blanket. I closed the lid and locked the trunk, but I took the key and placed it in the waterproof wallet. I’m going to put this in a safe when we get home. “Alice you coming or not?” “I said I was coming!” I put the dirt over the trunk, and started walking to where Jasper, Fran and Frank were.
How did Sierra find my bear? Why did the girl in my memory make me promise the same thing Sierra made me promise? “Alice! So what’s the verdict?” “Fran I say no. I can’t live in my past.” “Fine but Jasper said yes.” “He did not. He remembers most of his human life!” “He did so. Frank go get Jasper.” “Ok.” Jasper came out from behind a tree. “Jasper? What was your answer?” “I said yes because I knew Alice would say yes.” Why did he have to do that?! “Jasper? Since when did you start seeing the future?” “About the same time you took a blast to the past.” “Well, for your information I said no.” “Really? Alice if you want to do this I’ll be with you the whole time. I’m sure everyone will be ok back home.” “Jasper I said no and I mean NO!” “Fine. Sorry Fran but I say no too. If Alice says yes then I’ll say yes and since Alice said no so do I.” “Oh and Fran?” “What Frank?” “Alice said Sierra went back to her old family again.” “Great right when the fight starts coming our way she decides to leave. Ugh. Fine Alice, Jasper I bid you farewell and good luck on your journey.” “I’m sorry but can you tell me what her gift is?” “Alice, she has telekinesis. She can move things with her mind. That’s why we need her. She can fight off the others by throwing trees or picking them up and carrying them somewhere.” “Oh. Ok. Where’s Cedric?” “He went stand guard two miles away.”
That explains why the teddy bear rose out of the dirt and how it was dancing and dusting but this doesn’t explain a few other things. Could she be my friend? My best friend that I couldn’t remember? My only friend in the asylum? Could she be the girl I mistook as Katrina? The girl that was fuzzy in my memory? Why was the girl fuzzy in my memory? Was Frank making her fuzzy? Is there something I don’t know? So many answers but now so little answers. “Goodbye Fran. Goodbye Frank.” “Bye Alice. Catch ya later. See ya Jasper.” “Bye Frank. Bye Fran.” We started running away when I heard footsteps running after us. What now?
“Alice? Hey Alice wait up!” I stopped and Jasper did too. He’s the one who answered although I clearly heard Frank say Alice not Jasper. “Frank. She’s happily married and if you don’t mind we have to go shopping.” “Oh. Mrs. Jasper is going shopping. Thanks for the warning ma’am but I forgot to show Alice something and Alice is very beautiful but I’m not looking for a girlfriend right now so thanks for the offer.” Oh no. Sarcasm isn’t a very good thing today! “Jasper go sit over there and I swear as soon as Frank shows me what he needs me to see I’ll come meet you.” “Watch it Frank. I could kill you.” “I’m shaking!” “You little…..” “Jasper sit.” “Fine….” “Go grab your purse and sit on a log.” “Frank, stop that!” “Whatever you say Alice.” “What do you need me to see exactly?” “Well you know the drill sit and hold my hand or something.” “Hey! She is not holding anything for yours!” “Jasper would you sit! If it makes you feel better we’ll go sit next to you so you can watch ok?” “Fine.” “Well Alice now that we’re sitting next to lover boy you know the rules. And Mrs. Jasper. A few minutes in the past could be a few hours here so don’t start freaking out.” “Whatever.” “Yeah, if I wouldn’t have told you that you would have started freaking out and ruined everything.” “Sure whatever you say.” “Would the both of you shut up? Frank just go ahead.” “Fine.”
It was a blur again but this time I was standing next to Frank. I wasn’t my human self. I was my usual vampire me. So why am I like this instead of watching this through my own eyes? “Alice you’re not exactly in this memory. We’re kind of watching this from a distance. I can do this but I couldn’t do what Jasper wanted me to do. He wanted to watch from your own eyes. I can’t do that so I just told him what you saw. Does that answer the question you probably have?” “Yes but how come I can talk to you?” “Because this isn’t your memory. It’s Sierra’s” “Why am I watching Sierra’s memory?” “Shush. Just watch.”
“I can’t believe she’s gone! We’ve know each other for years and now she’s gone!” Sierra was sitting in my room crying and the nurse was sitting next to her. “It’s ok. She’s probably fine sweetie.” “If she’s fine then how come she doesn’t come back?” “Honey if you were out there would you come back?” “No but that’s before I met Alice. Now I would come back. I would come back for her! How come she doesn’t come back for me?” “She probably can’t. But you’re being released tomorrow and she knows that. Maybe she’s waiting for you.” “Sure she is. One minute she’s at the doctor appointment and then the next minute they’re both gone.” “We looked all over the place for the both of them.” Then Sierra closed her eyes and the plant flew out the window. “Don’t start Sierra! You won’t be able to get out if you start breaking things!” “Sorry, but I need to know what happened.” “I know but can you please fix everything? I don’t want to tell them my patient is throwing things.” “Fine.” The plant was by the window sill since there were bars on the window. The pot that held the plant put itself back together and the plant went in the pot along with the dirt. Then all the pieces of the window put itself together. You couldn’t even see the cracks.
“This answer anymore questions?” “A ton.” “Good. Sierra’s plan worked then.” “Plan? What plan?” “Her plan was to talk to her family and convince them to take her back, she wanted me to make her fuzzy in the memory I showed you, then she wanted me to show you this one after she left to explain a few things. Better?” “Yeah. I’m ok.” “I’m going to fast forward to show you what she really wanted you to see.” People came and went. The day flew by and so did the night. Then it stopped and started to play normally.
“Sierra?” “Yes?” “Hi. Your usual nurse is off duty for the night. Dr. Carlisle heard you wanted to talk with him. He’s waiting in his office. He wants you to come immediately.” “But it’s night time. Shouldn’t I be going to bed?” “He said you should see him immediately before you go home.” “Fine.” Sierra got of bed and followed James. I’d recognize that voice and that face anywhere but at least I don’t have to worry about getting revenge. I already did. “So when did you start working here? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before.” “I started working here a few months ago.” “Really? Huh. I’ve never seen you around here before.” “I really started working here a few months ago but I work the night shift.” “Oh. What do you do on the night shift?” “Not much just walk around make sure everyone’s in their rooms in there beds and if they’re out of their rooms or their beds you put them back in their beds.” “Oh, it doesn’t sound very interesting.” “It’s not except when you find someone to talk to.” They walked in silence for a while. “Sierra, this way.” “But I thought we were going to his office.” “No. He’s waiting outside. He wants to show you something.” “Ok.” As soon as they got outside the fight began. He picked her up and ran with her into the trees. She started to scream but he put his hand over her mouth. He put her on the ground and bit her. The blood began to drain from her body. Then a group of vampires attacked James, but it wasn’t the Cullens. A woman picked up Sierra and ran away. They all had gold eyes. James and the vampires were fighting and screaming. One vampire was about to rip off James arm but right before it happened James slipped out of the vampire’s grasp and ran away. Everything began to fade and the memory was over. As long as I exist I will never forget Sierra.
“What the hell took so long?!” “Jasper would you calm down? Everything’s fine. I just had a few questions that Frank answered.” “Well, Alice I must be off. I think I hear a very big group of angry vampires headed Fran’s way. See ya. Bye Jasper. Good luck man.” “Good luck Frank. Bye.” “Bye Frank.” “Bye Alice.” He got up turned away from us and started running. “Jasper you have any idea what time it is?” “Around 6:00 in the afternoon.” “Great. Let’s go.” “Go where?” “It’s a surprise.” I took his hand and started running to our next adventure.
“I lost my family because of choosing my past over my future. I decided to leave after I got to see my past. They told me if I left I was welcome to come back. I wasn’t planning on coming back.
