Sometimes the truth is just too much.
But some lies can never be forgiven.
Trust me. I know.
I’m Caroline Rogers.
Just your average 14 year old girl.
Nothing too interesting.
Today was the 1st Sunday in November it was still pretty warm out.
So I got dressed into my favorite shorts, a plain purple t-shirt, some beat up flip flops and head down stairs.
I walked in the kitchen to find everyone in my family wandering around.
“Look who finally got out of bed,” my oldest brother Garrett said, ruffling my hair.
Garrett is 17 and basically the man of the house since the divorce. He has light brown hair that goes just beneath his ears and is like 5’9”.
“Don’t get used to it,” I said and Evan rolled his eyes.
Evan just turned 16 and treats me like crap.
I always thought I was pretty nice to him….but sometimes we get along.
The last kid in my family is Olivia.
She’s 7 years of pure adorableness.
With her blonde curls and optimistic attitude, you would really think she was part of the family.
“Hey mom, can go to that new ice cream place?” I asked.
“Yeah, just be home by 2, ok?” she replied.
“Will do, anyone wanna come,” I asked nicely.
“I DOO!!” Olivia yelled.
“Be careful!” my mom adds as we head out the door.
“Don’t worry,” I yell back.
Time for some ice cream.
When we got there it wasn’t exactly packed, but there was a good amount of people there.
“Do you know what you want?” I asked.
“Yep,” she smiled.
“Great,” I said as we approached the front of the line.
“Can I help you?”
“I’ll have a cone with vanilla ice cream and sprinkles,” Olivia blurted.
“Can I have Oreo ice cream in a bowl, please,” I said.
“Yep, that will be $5.48,” she said.
I got out the money and looked at Olivia.
She looked so happy.
She looked like a kid.
Ah the good old’ days, when you could cry your way out of anything and everyone said you were cute even when you weren’t.
“Here’s your ice cream, have a nice day,” the girl smiled.
“Thanks,” I replied grabbing the ice cream and giving Olivia her cone.
“Your welcome,” I smiled.
“How did you know I was gonna say that?’ she asked.
“I’m your sister, I just know,” I explained.
She nodded but didn’t look convinced.
“Come on, let’s go home. It’s almost 2” I laughed as someone called my name.
“Hey Caroline, you got a minute,” someone yelled.
I turned around to see one of Garrett’s friends running towards me.
“Yeah, what’s up,” I said as he reached us.
“Your brother forgot his homework, and I think he might want it,” Justin explained.
“Ok, I’ll give it to him,” I said stupidly.
“Bye!” Olivia yelled.
“Bye little liv! And Caroline!” Justin smiled before running off.
“Now we can go home,” I said to Olivia as we walked down the street.
When we reached the house something didn’t seem right.
“Anyone home?” I asked.
“Where in the kitchen,” my mom yelled.
I and Olivia walked in the kitchen to find everyone sitting at the table.
“Where having a family meeting,” she explained as we sat down.
Silence.
“Now when I tell you this, you might be mad, but nothing you say or do is gonna change it,” she warned us.
“Just tell us already!” Evan groaned.
“Where moving.”
But some lies can never be forgiven.
