This is an article expressing my opinion on Yui form Angel Beats.
Yui was a character i didn't particularly like at first i admit. I found her overbearing yet cute and funny, her comedy got on my nerves a few times though. She didn't really seem important until episode 10....
As Otonashi and Kanade went on there quest to help the S.S battlefront they chose Yui first. She made Otonashi go on this crazy mission of funny antics that were her "dreams" before passing on. Then she explained her past...how she was completely paralyzed and helpless during her life, It absolutely broke my heart. I was also shocked, i think that was genius on the writers part: making her sort of unlikable and then make you love her so much, I think the part when i really loved her was when she was playing baseball and said she didn't mind not making her home run wish come true because she truly felt happy anyway.
Her final wish....
Her last wish was to have someone say they love and marry her. This might seem sexists and "the girl has to have a guy complete her" type thing but ti wasn't to me. Yui felt unloved in her life and wanted to have someone make her feel attractive and desirable there's nothing wrong with that. When she disappeared i cried my eyes out because it felt like part of the world was gone you know?
How i relate to Yui on a personal level:
I relate so much to Yui on a personal level and i didn't even realize it until she was gone. We have the same personality traits: being crazy and funny and the "wacky" one out of the group. I could understand the feeling undesirable part to and when Hinata proposed i had my heart strings yanked on because of the way he loved her.
Yui is an amazing character that i will never forget because she's so well developed and relate-able
