Third ficlet completed for the ag-fics Fic Battle:

Prompt: Any/Any, the last days of summer. – prompted by mustbethursday3

Last Days of Summer - Modern/Fluff - PG

Arthur and Gwen laid side by side as they watched the sun set, the sky filling with purple, blue and orange hues sending a wonderful glow above the rolling waves that crashed towards the sand. Both wishing that this didn’t have to end; the sun-set, the rolling waves and the feel of their hands intertwined with each other’s, but most of all summer.

It seemed like only yesterday that they had meet at the holiday resort when Gwen accidently knocked her coffee all over Arthur when she bumped into him. Awkward conversation and nervous teasing ensued (mostly on Arthur’s part) and it was not long before they spent every waking minute together. It felt as though they had known each other all of their lives, when only they had known each other for minutes, seconds really.

Part 36: link

Evening gives over to night, and passers-by look with interest through the front windows, mainly at the small group conversing in the leather chairs in the front. Annis has been talking animatedly with Arthur and Gwaine, and the trio make an interesting sight: the older woman, distinguished if a little Bohemian, completely engrossed in conversation with the two punks, who are equally absorbed. Add Guinevere’s sweet form in her red dress, now perched on the arm of Arthur’s chair, his arm around her waist, and people stare as they pass.
Fifteen minutes before closing, an older man walks in. Gwen looks up at the sound of another patron, glances at him, then turns back to the conversation.
She sees him out of the corner of her eye, though, stopping deliberately in front of each work, studying each one carefully. This unusual scrutiny draws her attention and she leans over, plants a kiss on the side of Arthur’s...

Arthur could not help but smile at the soft giggle that emanated from before him. Her soft frame molded perfectly into his and for just the briefest of moments he could imagine they were simply a man and a woman made for each other with no cares in the world as they galloped through woods. The scent of lavender wafted back into his face soothing him and making him surer than ever that what he had planned for today was the beginning of a brighter day for them both. The sound of her voice brought him out of his reverie.

“So are you finally going to tell me where we are off to?” she asked playfully.

He smirked as he leaned in closer to her ear and softly teased back, “And where would be the fun in that? Besides, this is supposed to be a surprise.”
He paused and released one of the reigns of their shared transport before waving the free hand in front of her face and inquiring, “Your eyes are still closed right?”

It was her turn to smirk as she retorted, “Of course, My Lord. We both know I always do as my sovereign commands.”

Here is the second fic I completed for the battle:

Prompt: Gwen finds a secret portal and is transported in Camelot and falls in love with Arthur who thinks she is his Guinevere, when actually Guinevere is in Modern Day London. (Lost in Austen/Merlin Crossover)[prompted by wickedvampirate]

Lost In Camelot, AU / Modern, PG

A/N: I would like to say that this is inspired by the fic imigination wrote where she had Gwen transported to Camelot. So I would like to credit her for having the plot idea and writing it first.

Also if people would like to see me expand this story, please let me know. I'm rather eager to do it, but I don't want to write it if no one reads it!

~*~

It was supposed to be a fun and relaxing night.

Eat amazing Chinese take-out from the street across from her flat while watching Merlin. She had a thing for watching shows with magical beasts and flying dragons. Also King Arthur was hot, but she never said that out loud. God no and face the teasing from her best pal Morgana. Hell no. Then after watching that, she loved to curl up on the sofa with her favourite...

So my good co-mod mustbethursday3 hosted a link at link, in which I participated. We each had to write as many prompts as we could till the deadline.

I managed to write 6 of my 12 prompts! So here is the first fic I completed!

Once again, comments and feedback are greatly appreciated!

Prompt: Arthur/Gwen, it's the end of an era [prompted by rubberglue]

It's An End of An Era, Canon, Arthur/Gwen, Merlin, PG

Joy. If anyone asked Gwen what she remembers most of this momentous day, she would say joy. The joy all over Merlin's face as Arthur made a long awaited announcement. The nervousness on her husband's face as he proclaimed after 20 or so years of living in fear, that magic was allowed. Looks of surprise, awe on the spectators' faces as he made such promises.

But most of all, she remembers the joyous little flutterings and kicks in her stomach. As if the little child knew how important this moment was. And how much was lost to gain it. And for a long time (not...

So I started this a while back and figured since this is an Arwen spot I should post it here for those who may not have caught it on fanfic.net and those who might like to reread it. I plan to update it soon and thought I'd post the previously written scenes in prep for that. Anyhow, hope you enjoy!

If he was honest with himself he knew exactly why he had said the things he said to her. Why he had basically accused her of betraying him, why he had told her if she wanted to cavort with her previous lover than she should at least be woman enough to walk away from him first, why she obliged him after giving him a look he never wanted to see on her face again . . . utter disappointment.

His pride, however, would not allow him to be truthful. It would not allow him to admit that his words were spurred by nothing but simple jealousy. He was jealous of the scene he walked in on, the way she was sitting with “him”, focused on “him” and seemingly comforting “him”. He hated to see her giving any other guy that kind of attention but with Lancelot it was even more troubling.

Arthur fixes his tie and cuffs his sleeve. He adjusts his shirt and looks himself in the mirror. He likes what he sees. Smiling, he turns around and walks back to his bed, picking up the socks before sitting down at the edge of the bed, resting one foot across his knee as he slides his socks on. Someone knocks at the door. Arthur looks up to see Uther standing by the door, smiling at him. There is a box in his hand.
“Father?” Arthur calls out, brows arching in surprise.
“Carry on; don’t let my presence stop you from doing what you’re doing.”
“I’m done… just need to find my shoes, that’s all. Should be here, someplace…” Arthur stands up and circles the bed but doesn’t find his shoes anywhere. “That’s funny, I thought I put them here last night!” Arthur scratches his chin and sighs, looking around.

-Finale-

The hour comes at last, after Arthur cursing the sun, swearing it is moving the wrong way, changing his trousers three times, and forgetting how to fasten his belt.
He stands at the front of the great hall, Geoffrey at hand, still and calm as always. His presence should have a calming effect on Arthur, but instead it only serves to annoy him.
“Any minute now, Sire,” Merlin says, stepping up to straighten Arthur’s jacket and otherwise check that he looks perfect on the outside, even if he is trying to jump out of his skin. He considers casting a calming spell, but he isn’t quite sure if it will ease Arthur’s mind or put him to sleep.
The doors open and Guinevere appears on Elyan’s arm. Everyone turns, and a hush falls over the crowd. Arthur’s eyes lock onto her as she approaches.

-Anticipation-

Gwen slowly wakes, shifting in her sleep, finding, not surprisingly, that she is still in the circle of Arthur’s arms. He had apparently allowed her to turn in her sleep at least once, as her back is now to him and he is spooned up tightly behind her.
She blinks her eyes open and surveys the room and her mind. Regrets? None. Shame? None at all. The faint pinkish glow tells her that it is very early morning and the sun has just woken as well.
Closing her eyes, she realizes she hasn’t been this happy in a long time. She looks at her hand, at her precious ring returned to his rightful place, and smiles. Then she looks down to see Arthur’s hand resting quite comfortably between her breasts, and she starts to giggle.

So I got this message from someone called Merthurismycanon who said Guinevere was weak, too dependent on others and had lived a sheltered life. Of course me being me, I had to answer. I am copying it from my blog and I saw that I misspelled some words and stuff when I wrote it in a hurry. I am too lazy to correct it.

This is my answer:

Yes, I think Gwen is strong and I have many reasons to why I think so. I think she is the strongest character on the show. And I think it is a fact that she is strong, not just an opinion.

You say she depends too much on others. That is not true. Gwen has worked hard her whole life. That is why she had the hands of a servant girl. When her father was murdered. Guinevere lived all by herself. Her brother was not in the picture. She was an independent young girl, earning her own living.

When Guinevere was banished by Arthur, because he thought she betrayed him. No one really came through for her. Not her own brother, not even Merlin. She packed her things and left all alone, and she survived on her own.

Below is some spoilers... beware!

First Look at Merlin Series 5: Arthur’s Bone...

In just a few short weeks, Doctor Who will be going on hiatus until Christmas *sob* so it’s understandable that fans of high-quality family drama are anxious about surviving the autumn months without committing cultural suicide and succumbing to X Factor. Thankfully season five of Merlin returns to BBC One in October, and if the whole series can live up to the early promise of the opening episode, it will go some way towards filling the TARDIS-shaped hole in the schedules.

The fifth series will be broadcast at a later time slot, allowing the show to build on the dark themes explored last time out. Set three years on and with Camelot under a new regime, the characters have matured and the stakes are higher. It feels like the budget has been increased too, as if the producers of the show were given carte blanche to film in the most scenic locations known to Wales, with plenty of forests, gorges and snowy hills on show – complete with slick cinematography that wouldn’t look out of...

According to Claude Albouve, Production Director of Merlin in France: “There will certainly be a S6 of Merlin, it’s just a matter of negotiations because the first contract was signed for a period of five years and has to be renewed, he assures that both BBC and Shine absolutely want a S6 of Merlin, they want it desperately, they both want to continue the adventure”. They are just like us guys, they want a S6!

In the end it is up to us and our viewing and it looks to be a spectacular season ahead.

Inside the train, Gwen stands by the door looking dejected. Her heart is aching and she doesn’t even know how to contain the pain. It creeps, leaving her dizzy. ‘Did I say all those things? Did I really say that?’ she thinks, trying to recall what has happened. Everything seems like a dream, but the pain she feels in her heart is real. She drops her bag, clutches her heart and slumps to the ground. Tears are rolling down, wetting her neck and her shirt but she doesn’t care about it anymore. Her breathing is coming in rapidly as she tries to restrain her tears but the pain in her heart increases as she remembers each and every word she told Arthur. ‘I broke his heart… I broke him,’ she thinks as she slams her head against the wall of the coach. ‘I’m sorry, Arthur… I’m so sorry,’ she thinks again and slams her head again and again until she felt slightly dizzy.

-Understanding-

There is a skirmish near the western borders of the kingdom involving some thugs menacing a peaceful Druid camp, so the next day, Arthur and a small party of knights ride out.
Arthur didn’t really need to go, but since it was involving the Druids, he wanted to go as an act of good faith, to further help repair the relationship with the Druids and the kingdom of Camelot.
That, and he wasn’t sure how to face Guinevere yet.
They rode out in the morning, watched unknowingly by Gwen from a small window overlooking the courtyard. She looks down at them, saying a silent prayer for their safety. She sees Frida standing off to one side, surreptitiously. She watches and smiles as she sees Percival give Frida a tiny wave, which the maid shyly returns.

Gwen sits alone at the railway station, waiting for the coach that’ll take her to Mercia and then to Caerleon. She plans to meet up with Elyan there and the train is supposed to have made it past twenty minutes ago but unfortunately, there is a delay and now she’ll have to wait another hour. Fifteen minutes has passed and she looks at the time nervously and then as the empty railroad, waiting for the blasted train to make its appearance. She pulls her coat tightly around her and sighs. The railway station was almost empty when she arrived but now, it’s getting filled quickly with people from all walks of life. Train service is the second highly sought after transportation in Camelot after car. For those who hardly own their own transport will look towards the train to get them around and sometimes, it’s a choice for those who wish to travel far and save on petrol. It’s no wonder the railway station gets packed before noon. Someone taps on her shoulder and she turns around....

Arthur actually laughs, relieved. Her hoarse voice like music to his ears. And it would be like her to immediately be concerned about someone other than herself. About me.
He leans forward to kiss her, touching her face, and she recoils. He stops.
“No,” she snaps, and Arthur notices she is trembling slightly.
“Guinevere?” he asks, blinking in confusion.
“Please… don’t,” she says, shrinking from him. Why am I repulsed at his touch? This is Arthur, not him. Oh, God, why, why does his touch make my blood run cold, make me want to…
Gwen curls on her side, facing away from him, holding her stomach as hot and cold chills race through her and she salivates as if she is about to be sick.

-Camelot-

Merlin sits at the table, idly picking at his porridge. He dips the spoon in, lifts it, tips the spoon, and watches as the gruel dribbles back down into the bowl in a series of wet splats. He glances repeatedly over at Guinevere’s still form as he does this, worry crossing his face.
“Merlin, are you going to eat your breakfast or just…” Gaius’ voice drifts away from the young wizard as his face goes slack, his staring eyes blank.
[i]Morgana approaches Helios’ fortress in the morning mist on horseback, making her way towards the gates. She slows, noting the eerie quiet, the lack of sound or movement.
No, there is some movement. She slowly casts her eyes skyward, only to see large vultures circling the tower, and lower, crows swooping and diving in.

-Ambush-

They camp for the night just outside of Helios’ fortress, Arthur and a small collection of knights, numbering about twenty-five. He is counting on the element of surprise and the fact that most of Helios’ men are common untrained thugs to give them an edge.
It is also difficult to stage a sneak attack with an entire army, so he has chosen to keep the party small, bringing his most experienced and elite men.
Matthias has proven quite useful in providing information about the fortress. He cannot write, but his memory is flawless and he draws exceptionally well. With Merlin’s help with the labeling, he’s given them detailed maps of the fortress, including hidden entrances that he is fairly certain only he knows about, secret corridors, and dead ends.

-Arthur-

Arthur and the knights finish the hunt, during which Arthur felled a magnificent stag and Princess Mithian rather impressively took down a pheasant in the middle of its short flight.
That evening, all were gathered in the throne room as their king, on one knee, publicly and rather hesitantly officially asked for Mithian’s hand in marriage.
There was polite applause from all, some smiles. No cheers or hearty congratulations; all knew that this was a political marriage and all were wise enough to keep their lips firmly sealed about the king’s other recent engagement.
Only Merlin could see the doubt in Arthur’s eyes. The pain still lingering, hiding behind his mask of a smile. Only Merlin was brave enough to neither applaud nor smile.

So: There are going to be some difficult and dark parts in here. There will be things you may not enjoy reading. There may be some things you will HATE reading. All I ask is that you trust me and stick with me. Don’t kill me. See it through. I promise it will all be okay. Okay? Okay.

-Guinevere-

“You have suffered much for one so young,” Helios says, seemingly sympathetic to Gwen’s fabricated tale of a murdered family and her flight. “Now those days are truly behind you,” he adds decisively, lifting his goblet to his lips. He drinks, eyeing her appreciatively once again.
Gwen forces a small smile, looking down. She averts her eyes out of discomfort under his scrutiny, yet he interprets it as coyness. Her lovely almond-shaped eyes bewitched him as soon as he saw her on the dirty ground of the pigsty, a sword to her throat.
“Where will we be going, my lord? If I may ask,” Gwen speaks again, not wishing to create an awkward silence.

The afternoon of the show, Arthur is pounding lemon drops like they are going out of style. He barely slept the previous night, even after seeking the comfort of Gwen’s embrace to calm his nerves. Three times. As a result, Gwen slept till nearly nine, but Arthur was still up with the sun, drawing just to pass the time.
They arrive at the gallery at four. The opening is at seven, but they are anxious and want to make sure everything is perfect.
“Look, people are already peeking in the windows,” Gwen says when they approach.
“Guinevere, they’re just walking past, of course they’re going to look in the windows,” he argues, but she can see the boyish grin lurking just below the surface.
She pulls the handle to find the door locked. “He’s in there, the lights are on,” she says, so Arthur pounds on the door.

Gwen finds Merlin talking to the doctor when she arrives. She waits until the latter is done before approaching him. She touches him on the shoulder. Merlin turns around, smile immediately forming on his face.
“Gwen?” he asks, rolling up his sleeves and loosening his tie, it’s obvious he just came back from work.
“Is something wrong?” Gwen asks, her voice lowering in anxiety. The last thing they need now is another obstacle when they have come so far. Arthur really needs this operation to happen without any more interruptions.
Merlin smiles, shaking his head. “No, no, there’s nothing wrong, Gwen. I was just asking the doctor’s opinion on this operation.”
    “And what did say?”

Dredging up OLD and I do mean OLD shit, for the express purpose of fomenting war is just not cricket, particularly as you are not privy to the mindset, and why we may well have been at war at the time. One sometimes gets bitchy, we are all human. Now we know the boy, compares co-stars with purses, wishes that he could just take over Camelot and Merls can go off into the sunset so he can run this shit. Bradley has foot in mouth disease and was an ass. He has done a shitload of growing up and as for those attempting to imply general hatred towards Angel, you could not be more wrong.

Our resident, sometimes, village idjit was referring to the character of Guinevere and he did it badly but I quickly remind you, this is Bradley, a jock and not always clever. A good looking face and tons of laddish bravado does not an intellectual make.

We leave intelligence to the Angel, Colin, Eoin, Rupert, Adetomiwa etc on the set. I remember once Mr. Capps referring to him as developmentally disabled and hired for his looks alone.

“You’re not chickening out on me now, are you?” he asks, eyebrows raised.
She opens the car door and stubbornly stomps out while he reaches into the back seat to retrieve a bag that he’s brought. A bag of which he wouldn’t let her see the contents.
“Come on,” he takes her hand and guides her to a large garden gate.
“Um…” she starts, seeing the keypad lock on the gate.
He calmly punches a series of numbers, the little light on the console turns green, and there is a click. He pushes the gate open.

Today on tumblr it would seem Why We Love Merlin erred again, know how, they put up a convenient poster as to why they love Merlin and left out, wait for it, I know you can't guess, the Queen, yeah, the one with a moderately higher melanin count. Sooooo surprising. The excuse, and it is an excuse, used by the moderator was, again wait, tis so special....they had 2 hours of sleep and they adore, yes, adore Guinevere sooooooo much, but couldn't find her graphic, just the three they like to promote, including on the GAME recently in beta release. Now, someone else in the fandom managed, as difficult as it was to make her crest, relatively easily...AMAZING no?

Tired of your bullshit SHINE. In fact, you enable the racist self inserters with ready alacrity. Wonder why that is? Perhaps the top of the food chain on SHINE has an agenda, the darky so annoys by her presence.

SCREW YOU.

She has millions of fans and you are not the centre of the universe or your personal preferences. She merits representation. That is all. The world is far more than one shade in fact the majority of this world isn't pink...get fucking use to it.
