    Arthur sits on his couch, listening to Gwen’s phone ringing. Again. She had spoken to Leon earlier, briefly, but as soon as Arthur’s name was mentioned, she made an excuse and got off the phone.
    He hangs up. He’s tried calling four times in the last hour and a half. She’s either not home or is ignoring the phone, knowing he’s trying to call.
    She should be mad. I don’t blame her at all. I just wish I could explain. She wouldn’t even hear Leon’s explanation.
    He looks at the phone again and sighs. Then he looks at the folders and papers on his table. He sorts through them until he finds what he is looking for.
    Arthur puts on a pair of shoes and grabs his car keys.

    “Already? Excellent,” Arthur says when Merlin hands him the much-awaited court order. He picks up the phone and dials Jack Aredian.
    Half an hour later Arthur and Aredian are waiting by the warehouse entrance.
    “Where is your man, Pendragon? You did say eleven a.m.”
    “He’ll be here. He’s got a warehouse to run, Mr. Aredian, he may have gotten waylaid—ah.”    
    The door opens and Percy’s head pokes out. “Hey,” he says. “Sorry I’m a little late, I was—”
    “It’s just two minutes, Percy, no harm done,” Arthur says, ignoring Aredian’s glower. They follow him inside and Aredian’s eyes are already scanning every surface. He takes out a notebook and makes a few notes already.

    Gwen stares at Gwaine. She doesn’t know what to say or what to think. How can he be in love with me? How can he even have these feelings? We are friends. There is no way he can fall in love with me. Gwen’s mind rakes through to find the possible solution to the madness Gwaine is uttering to her and yet she can’t come up with any. She is in a dilemma. Her day just turned from bad to worse.

    Peeling his hand from hers, she steps back and looks at Gwaine in shock, unable to comment anything. She just stares at him, dumbfounded.

    Gwaine’s expression also changes. He notices the stunned features on Gwen’s face and his own smile fades. He doesn’t pursue her but stands, waiting for her response. And when he doesn’t get any, he decides to be the first to ask her.

    “Percy. Arthur.”

    “I’m only going to say two words, all right?”

    “Accident reports.”
    “Understood.”
    Click.
    Percy hangs up the phone, stares at it a moment, and then goes back to his file cabinet. He pulls open the drawer and withdraws another folder, placing it in the bottom drawer with the other.

    Arthur heads out of his office door in search of lunch. As he pulls the door open, his phone rings.
    “Aw, I’m hungry…” he complains, but goes back to answer his phone anyway.

    “Andersen,” Percy picks up his phone Tuesday morning, stretching his left leg out in front of him, rubbing his knee a moment before bending forward and yanking his pant leg up to adjust his prosthesis. Didn’t get it quite right this morning, he thinks, replacing his pant leg over the false lower leg and foot.
    “Mr. Andersen? My name is Arthur Pendragon. Do you have a moment?”
    “Um, sure…” he says, puzzling for a moment. “Pendragon? Like Pendragon Law Offices?”
    “Well, that Pendragon is my father, but yes.”
    “Ah. If you’re calling why I think you’re calling, I don’t want to talk on this line. Can I call you on my lunch hour? I’ll go to a pay phone and call you.”

    “Who could that be?” Gwen asks when her phone vibrates on her desk. Merlin looks over from his computer screen and shrugs.
    “Hello?” she answers quietly.
    “Gwen?” a vaguely familiar voice responds.
    “Yes?”
    “This is Uther Pendragon. Sorry to bother you, but…”
    “What’s wrong?” Gwen asks, immediately frightened. Why is Uther calling me in the middle of the day?
    “Arthur’s been in a car accident. He’s going to be fine, but—”
    “Which hospital?” she cuts him off, hurriedly shutting her computer down and reaching for her purse.

    Arthur strides proudly down the corridor and takes a left turn where a figure is hiding in the shadows, underneath the alcove. Arthur nears the figure and stops. The morning sun was beginning to creep inside the corridor. He adjusts his brown riding coat.

    “Step out, Jerome.”

    The figure steps out and Jerome reveals himself, hugging himself with his cloak. He bows to Arthur but looks uneasy to be in the presence of the prince. Arthur seems relaxed, like he always does. Jerome looks around him.

    “Relax, Jerome.”

    “Sire … please don’t get me wrong, but what if someone notices us?” Jerome asks, still looking uneasy.

    Arthur laughs and crosses his hands. “This is my castle, Jerome … who could possibly see you?”

    “Pendragon Law Offices, this is Vivian, may I help you?” a bright voice answers the phone Monday morning.
    Gwen had two days to ponder calling Arthur. Her father’s funeral was on Friday, and she couldn’t very well call him on Saturday or Sunday. She spent Saturday mostly alone, in her apartment on the second floor of their house, thinking about Percy and Duncan and Ezra and their words. She thought a lot about what her father would want her do to. She prayed about it in church on Sunday, asking for guidance to make the right decision and strength to follow it through.
    Now, Monday morning, Gwen finds herself with 45 minutes of prep time while her students are in music class. She chose to call Arthur, not wanting to waste any more time.

    “Maybe we should send Tristan and Balinor to Medethenor to find out the news of their ailing king. I haven’t heard from them for a long time. I could use their allegiance during difficult times and if not, their friendship. It’s worrying not to hear from them all this while,” Uther says, forking his carrots.

    Opposite him, his wife, Queen Katrina Pendragon, nods, sipping her wine. “That must be done immediately Uther. King Galicka and his wife are some of Camelot’s finest allies and friends too. If something is wrong with them, we must help them immediately.”

    But before Uther can reply, there is a knock on the door. He looks at Katrina. “Who could that be?”

    “Surely they know this is a private moment for us, don’t they?” she replies. The knock comes in again. Katrina opens her mouth to answer but Uther holds out his hand, stopping...

    Never in all my life could I imagine this. Arthur came all this way, just to lead Morgana into the heart of Camelot. Why. . .why. . .why? I found myself crying, silent tears falling down my face. I was so proud of Arthur. So proud for the man he had become, leaving his sister (Or me in this case) a way out. Not just leaving her (me) there to alone to die in this horrid place.     “…When the Star-Belly Sneetches had frankfurter roasts Or picnics or parties or marshmallow toasts, They never invited the Plain-Belly Sneetches. They left them out cold, in the dark of the beaches.”
    “Miss Thompson?” a voice interrupts Gwen’s class. School started two weeks ago, and Gwen is seated on a colorful rug on the floor with twenty-two five-year-olds, reading Dr. Seuss.
    Gwen looks up to see one of the classroom aides standing in the doorway. “You have a phone call in the office,” she says.
    “Now?” Gwen says, standing.
    “They said it was an emergency. I’ll stay here with them,” she offers. Gwen hands her the book.

HC: Also in the finale, we discover that the monarch who will lead Camelot in a golden era of peace is Gwen, not Arthur. Was that a decision that came as the result of Arthur’s death? Or was it something deliberate you’ve been planning for a long time?

JM: It was, actually. We’ve had that in our minds for about three series. We felt that with Gwen, to take Gwen from a servant girl to a powerful and strong queen, a person who can bind the kingdom together, was the journey we wanted to do, and I think Angel delivered that brilliantly. And some of the most moving scenes in that last episode are with Gwen as she realizes who Merlin was, and that the king, the love of her life, is going to die, and that she must then take the kingdom forward. And she plays it in no more than three or four scenes, and that whole story is told. It’s a real credit to her.

    “I’ll see you later,” Gwen says, leaning up to kiss Arthur before he heads into the men’s area of the spa for his massage.
    “Should I wait for you?”
    “I’ll probably be longer than you will,” she says. “I’m having both my hair and my nails done. So I’ll meet you back in the room.”
    “You look really good in my shirt, by the way,” he smirks at her, kissing her one more time.
    Gwen hadn’t anticipated having her hair professionally done for the wedding, and only had pullover shirts along. So she borrowed the button-down shirt Arthur had worn the previous day, tied at the waist with the sleeves rolled up, so she wouldn’t have to pull anything over her head to put her dress on later. The fact that it smelled of him was just a bonus. She grins at him over her shoulder and disappears through the door.

Gwen is worried. It’s been hours and still there’s no sign of her father yet. He left to meet his friends at the tavern in the morning and now it’s almost seven in the evening and he isn’t back home.

    Gwaine has left for his home, promising to visit her again tomorrow along with a gift he bought for her father. It was nice talking to Gwaine after such a long absence. And she managed to confide her troubles to him, which makes it even better. Gwaine is the only person she’ll talk to without any worries in the world because he understands her well. They’ve known each other their whole lives and grown up together, and basically, Gwaine understands her better than she does herself! Her father commented once, saying Gwaine is the only one who can actually override her; no one else stands any chance, not even himself.     After a long evening of walking through the desert we were getting closer to the Dark Tower. Approaching the tower I looked behind me to see the knights in a dispute about who was better at jousting. I rolled my eyes and looked up at the Tower, stopping in my tracks, Oh no. Morgana was looking down at me, a sneer on her face. She see's me, us. I shot my hand up, signaling the knights to quiet down.
    Seeing my gesture their argument went into silence, looking around for the danger, wondering why I was signaling them. “What is it, My Lord?” asked Leon looking around. My eyes were glued to Morganas. “My Lord?” asked Leon again.
    “Shh.” I said, looking to the knights. “Morgana has spotted us. We need to hurry.”

Sky Atlantic has announced the cast for new crime drama The Tunnel.

Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones) and Clémence Poésy (Birdsong) will lead the ten-part series, based on the format of The Bridge.

Adapted by an Anglo-French writing team led by Ben Richards (Spooks, Outcasts) and directed by Dominik Moll (The Monk), The Tunnel will begin filming this month and is due to air later this year.

The official synopsis reads: "When a prominent French politician is found dead on the border between the UK and France, detectives Karl Roebuck (Dillane) and Elise Wassermann (Poésy) are sent to investigate on behalf of their respective countries. However, the case takes a surreal turn when a shocking discovery is made at the crime scene, forcing the French and British police into an uneasy partnership. As the serial killer uses ever more elaborate and ingenious methods to highlight the moral bankruptcy of modern society, Karl and Elise are drawn deeper into his increasingly personal agenda."

    Queen Guinevere has been bedridden for a week and a half. Despite Gaius’ best efforts, her health has been on a very slow decline for the past seven years. She started sleeping later into the mornings. Her appetite decreased. Her mind is still as sharp as ever and she is still not one to be trifled with, but after a year or so she would not walk anywhere unescorted for fear of losing her balance and falling.

    “This was a good idea,” Gwen says, stepping out of Arthur’s car at the valet, looking up at the Grand Hotel in Birmingham.
    “I thought so,” Arthur says, coming around and putting his hand on her lower back, ushering her inside.
    “I’m glad you booked the extra night, too,” she says, grinning at him.
    “Well, I’m actually kind of in the wedding,” Arthur admits, “so I would have needed to drive up here tonight anyway for the rehearsal. Staying here saves a lot of driving. And the reception is here, so when we’re ready to leave, we can just go back up to our room.”
    “You’re in the wedding?” Gwen asks, trying not to sound too disappointed. Great. I’ll get to be ignored all night while he does wedding party things.

    “Excuse me, my lady, the prince left these behind on the training field and he will be looking for them tomorrow,” Sir Leon says, stepping into the young prince’s room, holding a pair of small leather gloves.
    “Hi, Sir Leon,” Llacheu greets the tall knight from his bed.
    “Good evening, my lord,” Leon nods, handing the gloves to Gwen. He smiles at the young prince. “All ready for bed, then?”
    “No, but Mum says it’s time,” he frowns, then betrays himself with a yawn while his fist comes up to rub an eye.
    “I think your Mum is right,” Leon says, smiling at Gwen. She gives a small smile in return, but keeps her attention mainly on the five-year-old boy in his bed.

    Swish, swish slash. More leaves and branches were falling to the ground, moving out of my way as the knights and I made our way through the Impenetrable Forest. I looked up to see the sky getting darker. We should be further along by now.
    "Sire," I looked up to see Leon, one of my most loyal knights calling to me. The forest is thinning, we are getting close."
    A wave of relief flooded through me. Don't worry Guinevere, I silently prayed to her we are coming. We will rescue you. I will come get you Guinevere. . .Guinevere. My heart ached for her. Two days ago, when she went riding to visit her fathers grave she was kidnapped by Morgana on her outing.     “Percival, why didn’t you correct the prince when he made that misstep? He very nearly gave young Maxwell a black eye!” Leon snaps at his fellow knight as the two men walk to the castle from the morning’s training.
    “Well, he’s the prince! I can’t… yell at him,” Percival answers weakly.
    “He must be trained the same as all the other boys,” Leon sighs. “I know it’s difficult, but…”
    “I just don’t feel right. I know he’s only five, but he outranks me.”
    “Well, so do I, and I’m telling you from experience…”
    “My two best knights arguing?” Gwen’s voice stops Leon mid-sentence. The two men spin around to see their queen looking quizzically at them a short distance away, her hands on her hips. She starts forward. “What is this all about?”

    Can you get a lift home from Merlin? My dad is sending me on an errand close to EOD.
    Gwen reads the text and chuckles.
    “What’s up, Gwen?” Merlin asks, peeking at her around the massive bouquet of flowers that was delivered earlier in the day. There is a balloon suspended above it emblazoned with the words Happy birthday.
    “Can you give me a ride home?” she sighs, still smirking.
    “Of course. Why are you laughing?”
    “Because Arthur continues to be a terrible liar.” She shows him Arthur’s text.
    “Errand. Right,” Merlin says sarcastically. “I believe the errand part, but I doubt very much that his father has anything to do with it.”
