Guinevere is some kind of wonderful. That is why she is perfect for Arthur. She is the embodiment of inner-strength. Which in my opinion is the best strength to have. She gets accused of sorcery and thrown in the dungeon. She is lying there all tiny and vulnerable and it breaks my heart. Through tears she comforts Merlin saying there is no need crying about it. She stays brave and strong in the most difficult situations. She holds it together when a lot of others would be falling apart.
She is elegant, beautiful, gracious, tiny and so feminine. She is not afraid of fighting to defend her loved ones. She is intelligent and gives great council. She takes what is given to her and makes the best of it.
Guinevere is compassionate. She doesn’t think twice about helping when others are in danger. Like when she threw herself at Arthur and saved him from the gargoyles. When she fought for Merlins village or ran out to get water when the dragon was attacking. She has got some courage. She amazes me and will continue to do so throughout the show. Like I have said before No other women on this show can hold a candle to the woman Guinevere is.

I blogged this on tumblr and I figured that it would make sense to post this here :)

It’s always a suprise when people say that Arwen are overrated. They may be the popular couple of Merlin, but this is not because they are the main couple of the show [even though they are]. It’s what surrounds them- their chemistry, their story-line, their tension on screen. Arwen are beautiful…they are legendary…they are epic.

Where I started shipping them on Merlin proves that my love for them is not because they are a main couple: I began shipping Arwen when they were not even a couple. When they basically had zero potential- when in fact ArMor and Merwen had more potential. It was season 1, episode 3. And trust me, no legends gave me any influence. I was not well-versed in the legends when I started watching Merlin. I had read a book aimed at younger children when I was ten and there was no trace of the LGA love triangle. I knew something about a Lancelot/Guinevere/Arthur triangle- I had vague recognition that I had heard of it mentioned before. So why in the world would I ship a couple that is not a couple? I watched the episode twice, actually,...

Merlin leads Arthur through the woods to the large clearing where he generally rendezvous with Kilgarrah.
“Where are we going?” Arthur asks.
    “Not too far.”
“Will he be waiting for us there?”
“No. I’ll have to call him. Um, summon him.”
    “How do you do that?”
“I just call him. In the dragon tongue.”
Arthur stops walking. “You speak dragon.”
Merlin turns around. “Obviously. Dragonlord.” He turns and continues walking.
He wouldn’t be leading me to my death. He wouldn’t be leading me to my death. He’s a wizard. If he wanted me dead, he’d have done already. “Merlin,” he ventures.

What does it mean to be an Arwen fan?
By definition, an Arwen fan, is someone who ships Arthur and Gwen from the hit BBC television series, Merlin. There are different ranges to being a fan of them: a surface shipper, a moderate shipper, and an absolute hardcore shipper!

What does it mean to a part of the amazing community of Arwen fans on the Arthur and Gwen spot here on Fanpop?

It means that you meet HARDCORE AND ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL PEOPLE who love Arwen as much as you do. How do I know this? Because I've experienced the utter love here and the big family we have created. All these fans can give you 50+ reasons why they love Arwen and 50 or more reasons why they love the Arwen spot. And that's what I'm here to do.     Merlin is drawing a bath for his master. He is pouring the last jugs of warm water into a large tub, whistling a jaunty tune. His life as a servant has been a lot easier since the wedding. Arthur’s general mood has improved tenfold now that he can openly show his affections for Guinevere, and marriage suits him well. Gwen makes Arthur happy, and when Arthur is happy he is nicer to Merlin. Not only that, but Gwen gets displeased when Arthur is unnecessarily cross with Merlin. And Arthur has learned, like all husbands, that the key to a happy marriage it to not make one’s wife displeased.
Arthur enters, tosses his sword on the table, and walks towards Merlin. He walks past Merlin and says, “Honestly Merlin, must you?”
    Merlin stops whistling. “What?”
    “The whistling.”
“Sorry,” says Merlin, as Arthur continues around past the screen to undress. Merlin sees motion out of the corner of his eye. Guinevere has silently slipped into the side door of Arthur’s room. Merlin is about to say something to her, but Gwen puts...

Bradley Jame’s Arthur is one of the reasons I got so drawn to the show Merlin. I was curious to see his journey to become king.
I think the creators of Merlin did good when they chose Bradley James for their Arthur. Sure he has the perfect look. With great bone structure and a beautiful appearance. He really looks regal. He looks like a prince and the king to be. An actor should have skill in physical movement. To make the expressions and movements typical for the character. Bradley has the skills and physical appearance to play a legendary damager.

However playing a character like Arthur Pendragon is no easy task. Bradley James brings so much more to the character, than his flawless exterior.

The typical legendary Arthur is this perfect, good-hearted king. A character like that could be pretty one-dimensional and easy to play. It takes a great actor to play flawed characters. It is said that a great actor needs to have insight into human behavior and can effectively convey the emotion that influences one's actions. Well Bradley nails that part. Our Arthur is one that has many layers to him. When we first meet him, he is kind of arrogant and a...

He was striving for innocuous unsuccessfully at the moment what with constant drip, drip, drip, down the back of his collar like slow water torture from the stairwell above.

Still, it was an excellent vantage point for street level. That is so long as he continued to crouch just below sight lines. He flexed fatigued thigh muscles cracking his spine for good measure and felt some semblance of relief in the movement.

Damp leather gloves adjusted his collar as he hissed feeling the pull of the impromptu patchwork quilt Merlin had done closing the wound on his forearm just hours before; would have to see to that soon before possible infection set in. After all, it was his favoured arm.

Never missed a kill shot with it, investment that.

His teeth began to chatter as he exhaled while irritable pale eyes lazily tracked the coil of his own breath dispersing like tendrils into the cold night air.

It was the endless waiting he hated most in his profession.

The Top Fifteen Reasons Why I Am An Arwen Fan:

15. Because of Angel's and Bradley's chemistry
14. Because Merlin was the founding ship member
13. Because even Morgana can't resist shipping them. (Many of their great scenes in QOH and the vision were all because of her!)
12. Because even Lancelot didn't want to get in between them
11. Because even a blind man can see how they feel about each other
10. Because he has never loved another
9. Because he likes her and she likes him and that's all that matters
8. Because Arthur really loves her- warts & farts and all, and Gwen loves him back- donkey ears & braying and all
7. Because he told Morgana that they would return together and Gwen would take her place as the Queen of Camelot
6. Because he's the Prince & She's a servant
5. Because she thought she lost him
4. Because picnicking has never been more HOT!
3. Because he forced Merlin to go and "collect" firewood so he could have a moment alone with her

Lunch took longer than expected, so they ride swifter after they eat, slowing occasionally to let the horses rest some.
“I must say Guinevere, you did impress me back there,” Arthur says, dropping back to ride beside his wife for a bit.
“Thank you. I tried to be brave, but my heart was pounding like a frightened rabbit,” she admits.
“Well, it did not show. I am also impressed that you still wanted lunch after all that… all that carnage,” he chuckles.
“I’ve been very hungry today. It’s strange. Must be the fresh air,” she shrugs.
“Could be. You have been spending rather a lot of time indoors lately,” he says.
“Not entirely my fault, my lord,” she says, raising an eyebrow at him, the implication plain on her face.

Okay, so you all don't come after me with torches and pitchforks now that I've finished "Fire," I have a new giftie for you all. This first bit was inspired by the coronation kiss.

“This crown is heavy,” Guinevere whispers into Arthur’s ear. The coronation feast is in full swing and with everyone eating they have some time to talk to one another relatively uninterrupted.
Arthur chuckles, telling her, “Yes, in more ways than one sometimes.” Then he kisses her earlobe lightly before straightening back up. The light caress of his lips makes her skin tingle.
She looks at him, up at his crown, then back at him, a smirk on her face.
    “What?” he asks.
“My crown is prettier,” she smiles.
“Well of course it is. A king shouldn’t have a pretty crown.”
    “Mmm,” she nods noncommittally.

“Dear God,” Arthur declares breathlessly as he walks into the bedroom. Guinevere is lighting a few candles, willfully ignoring the fact that they once again have electricity.
“Hmm?” she asks, blowing out the match between her fingers as she turns to face him.
    “Um…”
Gwen has changed into her little surprise. She didn’t think it was anything much, but apparently Arthur is quite pleased. He doesn’t seem to be able to form words at the moment, she thinks. She cocks a hip to one side and places her hand on it, waiting.
A simple black negligee, short; ending just below her waist. There is a band of silver sequins just below her breasts, actually tastefully done, separating the flowing bottom half from the top. The top is low-cut and ties behind her neck, like a halter, leaving most of her back exposed. Arthur inclines his head and sees a...

So this is my post-s5 Arwen fic. It is Arwen, though it takes place after season 5, I promise.

When Gaius told her, she felt a flurry of emotions. Shock. Joy. Sadness. Anger. Fear.
Guinevere, Queen of Camelot, was with child.
Shock, because they had been trying for over three years with no results. She was beginning to fear that she was barren.
Joy, because she had something of Arthur left within her, something good and innocent and pure that would carry on his legacy.
Sadness, because Arthur was not with her.
Anger, because Arthur was not with her.
And fear, because she now not only has to run a kingdom alone, but she also has to raise a child alone.
    Which brought on more anger.

xXx

The skill she acquired as a servant for keeping her emotions carefully schooled has proved invaluable in her role as queen. She spent so long hiding her feelings for Arthur that it almost...

I wrote this prior to 5x12. I have since altered the beginning to match the actual events at the end of 5x13.

“The king is dead,” Sir Leon’s stalwart voice addresses the crowd, “long live the queen!”
    “Long live the queen.”
    “Long live the queen.”
Those assembled repeat the words, but there is an underlying sadness in them. Camelot is in mourning for their beloved young king.
Guinevere sits on her throne, Arthur’s empty seat beside her.
As empty as my heart, she thinks, but she keeps her own counsel, her face stoic. She is all out of tears.
She allows Sir Leon to escort her from the throne room and up to the royal chambers.
    My chambers. No longer ours.
“My lady?” Leon asks at the door.

In honor of the birthday girls
Joppa: 5 December
Guen_evere: 6 December

Hope you all had a great day!

When the Himalayan peasant meets the he-bear in his pride,
He shouts to scare the monster, who will often turn aside.
But the she-bear thus accosted rends the peasant tooth and nail.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.
- from “The Female of the Species,” Rudyard Kipling, 1911

Gwen sees the Arthur and the knights emerge from the dark cavern, dirty, some slightly bloodied, but all alive and well. She had been on pins and needles for the last hour, waiting for them to return, hidden in the underbrush as instructed.
“Arthur!” she rushes to him, and he receives her in his arms gratefully, though there is a heaviness about him.
“Guinevere,” he sighs, kissing the top of her head.

So I got this message from someone called Merthurismycanon who said Guinevere was weak, too dependent on others and had lived a sheltered life. Of course me being me, I had to answer. I am copying it from my blog and I saw that I misspelled some words and stuff when I wrote it in a hurry. I am too lazy to correct it.

This is my answer:

Yes, I think Gwen is strong and I have many reasons to why I think so. I think she is the strongest character on the show. And I think it is a fact that she is strong, not just an opinion.

You say she depends too much on others. That is not true. Gwen has worked hard her whole life. That is why she had the hands of a servant girl. When her father was murdered. Guinevere lived all by herself. Her brother was not in the picture. She was an independent young girl, earning her own living.

When Guinevere was banished by Arthur, because he thought she betrayed him. No one really came through for her. Not her own brother, not even Merlin. She packed her things and left all alone, and she survived on her own.

“Gwen, I’m freaking out,” Merlin’s frantic whisper comes through the receiver.
Gwen sighs. “First, stop whispering. Second, you’ll be fine, I promise. Mr. Gaius is a great person, I promise.”
“But he’s Will Fucking Gaius, Gwen!”
“Well, I don’t recommend you addressing him thusly when you meet him, but he’s actually very down-to-earth. Not superior or posh at all. I promise. So breathe.”
“Okay. Okay. Okay. Leon has ordered me to stay out of the pub, you know. He’s afraid I’ll break something.”
“Wise move. Now Merlin: your hair is… down?”
“Of course it is. I will be looking quite respectable today; you won’t even recognize me.”

“Arthur, you already got your payback,” Gwen says, hands on her hips as he stands with her red silk scarf in his hands, idly winding it and unwinding it around his hands.
“Well, you’ll just have to owe me for this one, then,” he says, advancing on her with an impish glint in his eyes.
She stays in place and lets him come to her, knowing that he’s got his mind set now. No reason why I should let it be too easy, though. He can come to me.
Arthur loops the scarf around her back, using it to pull her close. His eyes move over her face for a moment or two, the blue-grey pools searching her lovely features as she gazes serenely up at him, waiting patiently.
He kisses her then, hungry, greedy for her, holding her body to his with the scarf. She wraps her arms around his neck, matching his passion with her own as she winds a leg around his as well.

The first postcard arrives Saturday. It’s from the airport. She’s sent it to the shop.
“Hey Drag, something for you, mate. Maybe this will put a smile on that ugly face of yours,” Gwaine says, handing him the card.
“It’s from Guinevere,” he says softly.
    “No shit.”
    He turns it over.
[i]Dear Arthur,
I wanted to write immediately so you’d know I had arrived safely. Chicago is huge. Busy. Cars everywhere, and the buildings are immense! Haven’t done anything yet; am writing this in the car, in fact, trying not to notice how fast Elyan is driving. I sat next to a lovely middle-aged woman on the plane who was returning home from a business trip. She liked my pedicure. I told her you did it. She didn’t believe me. Tell everyone hello.

Two days later.

“You remember where?” Gwen asks Sir Leon. She ambushed him on his way in from the training grounds.
“Of course,” Leon smiles. “It’s an excellent idea, Gwen.”
“Thanks. Merlin says he will keep Arthur occupied for us.”
    “Occupied?”
“No idea what he’s got up his sleeve,” she shrugs.
    “Could be anything,” he laughs.
“How many men do you think you’ll need?”
He thinks. “Probably ten. Plus at least one large wagon and horses.”
    She nods. “Tomorrow, then?”
    “I’ll talk to the men.”
“Thank you, Leon,” she says, laying her hand on his arm. “Oh, and Leon?”

Almost one month later.

“Ah, Merlin, come in, please,” Arthur says when Merlin appears in the doorway. He and Guinevere are preparing for the next day’s journey. “Close the door.”
Merlin closes the door and enters. “My lord?”
Gwen is seated at the table, and Arthur joins her. “Please sit,” he motions to Merlin.
What is going on? Merlin wonders. I haven’t messed anything up lately, nobody has been caught eavesdropping at their door again; everything’s been running smoothly…
“Merlin, don’t look so worried,” Gwen says, reaching across the table to touch her friend’s hand. “If Arthur wanted to yell at you, he would have started already.”

They reach their chambers, and Arthur opens the door for her. She enters and he follows, taking care to lock the door behind them.
He turns to her and gently removes the crown from her head, setting it carefully on the heavy long table there. Then he removes his own crown and tosses it gently beside hers, careless by comparison. He turns back to her, lifts his hands to her forehead and gently rubs it with his thumbs, massaging away the marks the crown has left indented in her skin there.
Arthur once again pulls her into his arms, kissing her briefly before raising one hand and brushing his knuckles lightly against the skin of her cheek, caressing down to her neck, coming to rest at the exposed tops of her breasts, which are rising and falling with her deep, rapid breathing.

Finally the feast winds down, and Arthur and Guinevere are able to make their exit. As they walk through the corridors to their shared chambers (another thing Arthur insisted upon, once again showing disregard for years of tradition), Gwen’s mind drifts back to their wedding the previous week.
Or, more specifically, their wedding night.

[i]He was so nervous, though he’d deny it to his last breath. So was I. The culmination of five years of longing, hoping, despairing, wishing, and praying was about to happen and we were as skittish as a couple of colts.
I can only imagine how he must have paced and fretted waiting for my arrival. One tradition he’d forgotten to dispose of: the wedding night preparations. Separate preparations. Special thanks to Hanihana for the suggestion that I write an AU Arwen fic!

There is a fire at an office building downtown. Not a huge fire, but the fire department is summoned, and the usual crowd forms. The fire is extinguished easily, and as Arthur packs the gear into the truck, he takes a moment to look around. He takes his helmet off, wiping his sweaty forehead with his arm, freeing the damp blonde hair that has plastered itself there. It is midday, so most of the onlookers are senior citizens and businesspeople on their lunch hours, most of them frowning at the inconvenience caused by the trucks.
The library is across the street. Slight motion in the large floor-to-ceiling windows on the side catches his eye, and he turns his head to see a petite form looking out. She is standing and watching, one hand against the glass, the other toying with what looks like a necklace. Inexplicably intrigued, he steps forward, peering, trying to get a better look through the glare on the glass. Her skin appears dusky, latte-colored, and her hair is either up or short. She is wearing a figure-hugging...

After two weeks of preparation, the wedding day arrives. It is the most lavish event ever seen in Camelot. Not even Uther, the king of Camelot, married in such splendor. Since Arthur is the heir and future King of the land and the only son of Uther Pendragon, the king spared no expense to ensure that this day marks the greatest wedding in the history of the Pendragons, as well as in the history of Camelot.
The town of Camelot was embellished magnificently, with flags and banners afloat in the warm and gentle breeze against the blue sky. All the houses along the way were hung with fine tapestries and decorated with brightly coloured flowers and decorations. On the stony street on which the guests and other dignitaries would walk to get to the castle, fresh cut primroses and marigolds were laid. Foxgloves and peonies adorn the houses along the way towards the castle so the entire town is glowing in exceeding beauty and exuberance....

I have a convention on Thursday. Gwen looks down at the text she’s just gotten from Arthur, and remembers his “plus-one” threat.
    Oh, no.
Don’t worry, you’re safe. Not a plus-one kind of thing.
    Good.
“What’s up?” Merlin leans over and peers over her shoulder.
“Arthur has a convention to go to Thursday.”
