One of the oddest things about Bambi's legacy is the film's lack of presence in the Disney theme parks. Everything you read about Bambi cites it as one of Walt Disney's greatest achievements; the unseen Man is one of the greatest Disney villains; Bambi is one of Disney's most iconic figures and yet Bambi, and his forest friends, are practically invisible as far as the theme parks are concerned.

Looking around I've found that Bambi appears in some of the fireworks shows in various montages; World of Color and it's Winter Dream iteration.

In terms of attractions, though, Bambi as an inspiration in conspicuous by its absence. The one time of year that Bambi seems to appear is during spring time, particularly in Epcot and Disneyland Paris.

Around 2011, for example, Epcot treated guests to the Flower and Garden Festival to Bambi's Butterfly House. Inside the butterfly-filled walkthrough were colourful topiaries of Thumper, Flower and Bambi (with butterfly alighted on his tail). As well as a variety of flowers, the walkthrough was also planted with small evergreen trees bringing to mind the forest setting of the film. The topiaries have reappeared...

A Disney Tale: A deer, Bambi, is born in the forest, the heir to the Prince of the Forest. He meets a rabbit, Thumper, and a skunk called Flower and they live through the seasons of the forest learning about life and love until Bambi becomes the Prince himself, protector of the forest.

Disney Hero: Bambi is a young deer full of innocence and naivety. As a 'hero' he is terribly ineffectual. The events of the film simply happen to him. He is passive for almost the entire story. Even in the climactic forest fire he is rescued by his father. One aspect Bambi does share with many, many Disney heroes, though, is losing or not having his mother. This recurs in so many Disney films to the heroes or heroines. Already we have had Snow White and Dumbo (although only temporarily), and Pinocchio was from a single parent family. After Bambi there is: Cinderella; Peter Pan, Wart in The Sword in the Stone; Mowgli; Penny in The Rescuers; Taran in The Black Cauldron; Olivia in The Great Mouse Detective; Oliver in Oliver and Company; Ariel; Belle; Aladdin; Pocahontas; Tarzan; Lilo; Nemo; Chicken Little; Remy in Ratatouille; Anna and Elsa; Hiro in Big Hero Six (although he does have an...

I'm longing to find a buyer for this exceptional piece of Disney/ Bambi history - if anyone has any ideas as to who might like it - do get in touch... I'd love it to go to a real Bambi fan. It's probably one of the best provenances for any vintage Disney jewellery you're likely to see. Let me tell you more...

The costume jewellery house of Rene Llonguet in Paris (I’m a vintage fashion specialist) was closely linked with the film industry and Llonguet provided glorious pieces for movie stars just Post-War and into the early 1970s. Knowing that connection it makes sense that he secured a licence from Walt Disney Studios to produce top end and very glamorous costume jewellery pieces – I suspect this Bambi necklace was one of the only Parisian costume jewellery houses who had such a collaboration in the 1950s. This is their very first design and this necklace is from the Llonguet archive. It is likely that it may be the only surviving example as I have never seen another like it.
