ds12345 I like Evermore... but agree that If I Can't Love Her is more powerful and works better to develop the beast's character. One problem I always had with the original movie, and now with the 2017 film, is the question of when the beast saves Belle from the wolves... was he tracking her because he was worried? Or because he planned on dragging her back as his property? In the broadway musical, he sings If I Can't Love Her as he is overcome with guilt at having scared her. For me, it was the defining moment when he realizes that he needs to change and be a better man, which allowed me to give him the benefit of the doubt as to why he chased after her. It is also heartbreaking to hear the beast contemplate and welcome his own death, especially in the reprise. It makes for a much darker tone to the story, and better shows the extent of the beast's internal suffering. Aside from those reasons, I do think the song is just better stylistically, but I guess that's a matter of preference.
