So in this episode Ben was lacking sleep because he was having nightmares. I liked the little jokes Kevin cracked about Ben; like lending him a night-light. I also very much liked when Kevin dropped Ben off at Ben’s house. Kevin said that he needed to take Gwen home before her folks go into a full meltdown. This is an insight on what Gwen’s parents think of Kevin. Dwayne McDuffie (writer of the show) was asked this on his website in a Ben 10 Q & A:
Q: “What do Gwen’s parents think about Kevin?”
Dwayne answered: “They don’t approve.”
So those feelings could cause drama. I’m sure they cause off-screen drama that we don’t get to see… but I have read many fan fiction stories about Gwen’s parents and how poorly they view Kevin. I like how they don’t approve because it’s dramatic and romantic; like forbidden love almost.
So back to the show, When Kevin drove away, Ben watched the lightning and I thought that that was what he was having nightmares about.
Then, Ben was attacked by the lightning in bed while sleeping, which was R’aad. He is the last alien from Aggregor’s collection. Ben turned into Jetray just in time and they begin fighting. They manage themselves outside and fight until Ben shocks R’aad in a pool a few houses down from Ben’s.
*I just want to say now that it is REdiculous how they are spelling their names. I like it because it is original what with all the random apostrophes and extra letters, but I am stressed a little on all the weird name spellings. I want everyone to know, that in “Too Hot To Handle” P’andor is spelled like that. In my article I spelled it ‘Pandor’ and I think I’m too lazy to go back and change the spelling. Seriously; just to add an apostrophe? I got exams to study for. Sheesh. I already did that for the Galapagus dude, which I still really don’t know how to spell. There are so many ways to spell that. I’m dying here. *
Back to the show again, (sorry for the ramble) Ben, Gwen, and Kevin take R’aad to Los Soledad. While the alien is restrained, he says that Ben helped Aggregor capture the alien friends. He said that Aggregor was tracking the aliens through the Ultimatrix. Then he reveals more of his powers by reading Kevin’s thoughts about being an Osmosian. He then explains Aggregor’s plan of absorbing all the aliens’ powers and he states how powerful Aggregor will be.
Ben wants R’aad to work with the team and R’aad agrees. The whole deal right there seemed sketchy and I don’t know why Ben went to release R’aad. Kevin stopped Ben to question the trust between Ben and R’aad and I’m glad he did that. Kevin was smart there; or maybe he just has trust issues. Actually I’m sure he has trust issues. But anyway Ben let down the force field holding R’aad and R’aad used his powers to hold the team captive. He said he read their minds and that they would turn him into Aggregor to save themselves if the time came. We all know that they wouldn’t do that. R’aad wants to destroy the Ultimatrix since that is how Aggregor found his friends and how Aggregor will soon find R’aad. Right then, the Ultimatrix goes to scan R’aad at the same time R’aad goes to attack Ben. There is an explosion, and R’aad is nowhere to be found. This is because now Ben and R’aad are fused.
When Ben says that things couldn’t get any worse, Aggregor breaks in through the ceiling and attacks. When Kevin says he is an Osmosian just like Aggregor, to Aggregor, Aggregor calls Kevin a hatchling. (I’m laughing so hard right now- I didn’t mean to say Aggregor three times in that last sentence.) So Aggregor calling Kevin a hatchling means he is young-not from an egg. When you think about it, Kevin really is inexperienced with his powers-all young aliens are. Maybe if Kevin was mutated like in the original series, Aggregor wouldn’t think he was so young. Or maybe not; just an idea.
So Aggregor attacks and un-absorbs Kevin, then hits Gwen. He does this with his pokey thingy. I don’t know what it’s called; not trident or pitchfork, but something like that. Maybe he channels some powers through that. Perhaps he doesn’t always like using just his body as his weapon.
Ben transforms into the Empires species. (I don’t know how to spell that-the way I spelled it, the‘s’ is silent.) it was the coolest transformation yet. Even the best counting in Alien Force transformations too. It was like the Ben 10 Classic transformations-where they show more detail and it’s a little creepier. I think we fans needed that. I know that I used to get grossed and creeped out by the Original transformations, but even I liked to see this.
They aren’t getting anywhere fighting, so Gwen gets the idea to teleport to Kevin’s garage. Gwen’s powers are shown to their fullest potential when she does this.
*Gwevin!* So Gwen is weary from using her powers so strongly, and she falls into Kevin’s lap. He holds her and says that maybe she shouldn’t do that again, but she says that it did get them out of there. They little by little stop holding each other because Ben once again ruins the Gwevin moment. R’aad was talking a bit through Ben.
The scene changes to Aggregor on his ship trying to locate Ben. He can’t find him as long as Ben and R’aad are fused.
That was a quick scene, and so then it goes back to Kevin’s garage. Gwen is on the couch with a teleportation hangover. Has anyone ever seen a couch in Kevin’s garage before? I haven’t but I read a lot of fan fiction stories that include a couch in Kevin’s garage. Either there has always been a couch in the garage, or the fiction writers are just really good. R’aad starts scaring Ben by talking in his head. It’s almost like possession, even though they are sharing Ben’s body. Kevin thinks Ben is joking or just weird, but Gwen stops her powers rest and senses R’aad in Ben.
Now, Kevin’s ideas aren’t so smart. He wants to hack the Ultimatrix. I thought he was nuts. That is really risky because he could have become mutated again. The Ultimatrix could have lost some aliens as well. How will we know it’ll work this time Kevin?
Kevin: “Because this time, I’ll use the blue buttons.”
Ben: “I can’t tell you how reassured I am-“
Then, Ben and R’aad fight more over Ben’s body and the Ultimatrix. Ben spirit is fading, as sensed by Gwen, so they decide to use the hacking machine. Kevin uses what look like car jumpers to connect the machine to R’aad/Ben. There is a small explosion, and Kevin comes out of the smoke with Ben under his arm. R’aad is angry with the teens, and he leaves. Now Aggregor is back. He attacks Gwen and Kevin. Gwen is blasted at the couch, and Kevin is flown outside.
Since Ben is not fused anymore, the Ultimatrix is back on track. It says “all systems available,” which made me think. There may be a chance that more or all of the systems of the Ultimatrix are unlocked. But probably it is simply back to how it was before the fusing.
Ben picks Brainstorm, but doesn’t do well. The scene changed to out where Kevin is, and he is trapped under a telephone pole. R’aad comes through the telephone pole. Kevin tells him that Ben, the one person who tried to help R’aad, was in the garage dying. Kevin says that he was just like him and told him to go and steal whatever time it buys him.
In the garage, Aggregor is really hurting Ben with his sword/saber/spear thing. Gwen thought Aggregor was killing Ben because it was that bad. R’aad couldn’t have Ben die for him, so he attacks Aggregor. He couldn’t have defeated him, and Aggregor took R’aad.
There was another explosion, and Ben, Gwen, and Kevin were flown far from the garage. It was completely destroyed, and Kevin was pretty devastated. It was emotional how Kevin stood in front of the garage. His car was destroyed too. Kevin thought that there was no hope for stopping Aggregor, but Ben says he is going to stop Aggregor and use the alien friends’ powers to save them.
So some extra things I want to say before I end this include relationships, and going outside the storyline or regular episodes. First, the relationships. We can plainly see the relationships that the creators intended; Gwevin (Gwen and Kevin) and Benlie (Ben and Julie.) but in this episode, I saw a lot of the alternate fan relationships. There was quite a lot of Bevin (Ben and Kevin) and Bwen (Gwen and Ben.) I saw the romantic relationship that some fans believe between these characters. Next, I want to discuss the story in this episode. Usually, when there is a problem introduced in a Ben 10 episode, it is resolved in that same episode. This time, Aggregor wasn’t stopped when he was introduced thoroughly to the team. This episode will obviously have a continuation, and I know that they couldn’t have solved the problem at the last three minutes of the episode like they usually do. Ultimate Alien isn’t brilliant yet, and there is just something about the episode line up that I don’t really like, but I’m positive that it will get there. That’s all; bye.
