Buffy Summers Question

I read somewhere that Buffy's real name was, Elizabeth "Buffy" Anne Summers. Is this true?

Somebody on a Buffy fan site told me that Buffy's real name was Elizabeth "Buffy" Anne Summers and that Buffy was just a nickname that stuck, is this true because I am not sure. He also said that Joss confirmed it but I have searched the net and can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help me?

Nope, at no poin throughout the series do they say that her real name is Elizabeth, the first time we find out her full name is in the season 3 episode 'Anne' because her full name is Buffy Anne Summers!

Buffy's real name IS Elizabeth Anne Summers!!! Just 'cause they don't say it on every website, doesn't make it un-true.

It's not true it's Buffy Anne Summers, it even says so on her grave stone in season 5. The episode was The Gift.

I've never heard that. Check her grave stone in the end of season 5 or beginning of season 6, it reads: "Buffy Anne Summers."

Buffy is a alternative version of Elizabeth... Same as Lizzie, Beth etc. though less obvious.
Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother for instance was called Buffy by her family.
Saying all that, though, Im pretty certain that Buffy Anne Summers is her full name in the series, and is how it would be on her birth certificate if she was a real person.
Its not that uncommon for peoples real full name to be a shortened/diminutive form of another.

No, it isn't. That's just common fanon. I've no idea where it came from, because it wasn't confirmed by Joss Whedon or anyone else from the show.

I first encountered the name "Elizabeth" for Buffy in fanfiction written by Steve Pantrovich. However, he may've gotten it from some other fan fiction site.
