Percy & The Promotion
July 2, 1955
Percy: *Putting inspection car in siding*
Wilson: Hey Percy. How was it?
Percy: It wasn't too bad. I just had to replace a few spikes, and that was it.
Wilson: Good.
Percy: *Walking to station*
Snowflake: Hi Percy.
Percy: Oh, hello Snowflake.
Snowflake: How is your day going?
Percy: So far, so good. I see you've taken Red Rose's spot.
Snowflake: Yep. I get to control the train yard now. *Evil laugh*
Percy: Okay, that wasn't necessary.
Snowflake: Sorry.
Percy: *Walks to station*
Jeff: *Arrives* Percy, how are you?
Percy: Great. Thank you for asking Jeff.
Jeff: Where did you have to go?
Percy: Sherman Hill. I have to go there a lot now. So many long, and heavy trains go up that hill.
Jeff: It could wear the rails out.
Percy: Right. Well, I'm gonna go see Pete. *Walks into station*
In Pete's office.
Pete: Well, whoever's fault it was, we still need another engineer over here.
Michael: How about we borrow some of your engines, and you won't need so many engineers.
Pete: We already let the Santa Neigh, and the Baltimare & Ohio borrow some of our engines. We don't have enough to give to you.
Michael: And yet you always have enough for the Baltimare & Ohio.
Pete: Hey, we don't normally lease engines to the Santa Neigh. They plan to sell part of their line going over our yard, to the Burlington Route.
Percy: *Knocks on door*
Pete: Can you call me back? I have somepony at my door.
Michael: *Hangs up*
Pete: Come in.
Percy: *Walks in* Sir, I got the line repaired at Sherman Hill.
Pete: Ah, good. *Thinking* Hey listen, I was just on the phone with Michael, the boss of the Southern Pacific, and one of his trains crashed into ours, and killed one of our engineers. We need more, and I think you're the right pony for the job.
Percy: Me sir?
Pete: Yes you. You've been maintaining our engines for a long time, and you know how to drive them, so it's a perfect idea.
Percy: Okay. If you say so.
Pete: Great. So as of now, you are now an engineer.
After being promoted by Pete, Percy went to wait with Hawkeye, and Stylo.
Hawkeye: What's with the sticker you're wearing?
Percy: Pete put that on there to let everypony that I'm now an engineer on this line.
Stylo: Ah, congratulations on the promotion.
Percy: Thank you.
Gordon: *Arrives* What the fuck is this? You have enough room to let Percy sit with you, but you won't let me sit with you?
Hawkeye: What can we say? You're fatter, and much more rude then Percy.
Gordon: Why are you wearing a sticker? What are you, three?
Percy: Read it, and find out.
Gordon: *Reading sticker* New engineer? What the fuck gave Pete the idea to let you be an engineer?
Stylo: Because he actually knows how to drive a train.
Hawkeye: Yeah, all you do is either go too fast, or jump off at random times.
Gordon: Jesus christ. *Walks to train yard*
Percy: He always gets angry about everything.
Hawkeye: Oh yes he does.
Stylo: In 1941, he was one of the pilots that bombed Pearl Harbor.
Pete: *Arrives* Alright Percy, Orion is going to stop here, and let off some supplies from his freight train. When he does that, go ahead, and climb in the engine with him.
Percy: Yes sir.
Hawkeye: Good luck with your first assignment.
Pete: Pierce, you and Stylo have to pull a double header with Gordon, and Coffee Creme.
Hawkeye: Double heading with Frenchy, and the angry pumpkin.
Stylo: I don't get it.
Hawkeye: Because he's orange.
Stylo: Oh, now I get it.
Percy soon saw Orion pull up to the station in a short freight train. It was being pulled by one GP9. There were three box cars, and a caboose.
Percy: Hello.
Orion: Hey, how are you?
Percy: Good. I'm the new engineer.
Orion: So I heard. Climb in.
Percy: *Climbs into cab*
Orion: So how have things been?
Percy: Good.
Orion: Good. Now when you're ready, we can take off.
Percy: Well, should we wait for them to unload that car of supplies first?
Orion: Wait a minute, you just gave me a good idea to get fired. *Takes off*
Workers: Wait, we still have to unload!!
Orion: Haha, that's definitely going to get me fired now.
Percy: Go back.
Orion: What?
Percy: I said go back, and let them unload the train!!
Orion: *Stops* Well, you didn't have to shout. *Goes backwards to station*
Workers: Hey, kid, what were you thinking?!
Orion: Oh, I thought it would be a good idea to get fired if I-
Workers: Not you, the other pony in the cab!
Percy: Who, me?
Workers: Yeah you, you should have waited for us to unload before taking off like that!
Percy: But Orion was the one driving.
Worker: Bullshit! *Finishes unloading boxcar* Okay, now you can go!
Percy: *Drives train*
Orion: Way to go Percy, you ruined my chance of getting fired from here!
Percy: Why can't you just quit?
Orion: Because I'll get arrested if I quit.
Percy: No you won't.
Orion: Yes I will. It happened to a very good friend of mine that lived in London.
Percy: Whatever. I'm not even going to argue with you.
After taking the freight with Orion, Percy had to take another freight train by himself.
Percy: *Slowly enters train yard*
Snowflake: *Turns signal red*
Percy: *Stops at red signal*
Snowflake: *Walks out of signal tower, and to Percy's train* Come on Percy, uncouple your engine, and get it in the siding, hurry up!
Percy: I'm sorry!! *Runs to coupling*
Snowflake: *Impatiently stomping hoof on ground* What's taking so long?
Percy: *Uncouples engine from train*
Snowflake: Now get it in the siding! *Runs to signal tower*
Percy: *Gets in engine*
Gordon: *Walks up* Come on, hurry up! I got to get my train in here too you know.
Percy: I'm doing the best I can! *Drives passed switch track*
Snowflake: *Switches track*
Percy: *Backs up into siding*
Gordon: Okay, now to get my train in here.
Snowflake: But you have to wait for Wilson to push Percy's train down the hump!
Gordon: Goddamnit!!
After Percy got his engine in the siding, Jeff came to put it in the servicing facility.
Jeff: What's the matter Percy? You look upset.
Percy: So far, everypony has been getting angry at me.
Jeff: What did you do wrong?
Percy: Well first off, Orion tried to take off before one of his freight cars even got unloaded, and I prevented him from doing that. Then, the ponies that were trying to unload Orion's train got angry at me, and thought I was the one that tried to leave too early, and Snowflake just shouted at me, because she thought I was too slow to move my engine out of the way.
Jeff: So, what do you want to do about it?
Percy: I want to go back to my old job.
Jeff: But Pete won't let you.
Percy: Oh yes he will. If I just explain to him what's happening, then I'll go back to my old job. *Runs to Pete's office*
At the station, Hawkeye, and Stylo were waiting for another train to arrive, so that they could take it to North Platte.
Percy: *Runs across tracks, and onto platform*
Hawkeye: What's the rush?
Percy: I want to talk to Pete about my job.
Stylo: You're not quitting, are you?
Percy: No, but I don't want to be an engineer anymore.
Stylo: Are you sure? What happened.
Percy: Everypony hates me now.
Hawkeye: Aw, don't be like that. How could they hate a nice, quiet pony like you?
Percy: They don't think I'm good at the job. I want to get back to repairing track, and maintaining our engines.
Hawkeye: Alright, if you want to, that's your decision.
Percy: Thank you. *Walks into station*
Pete: *In his office, looking in a mirror*
Percy: *Knocks on door*
Pete: Come in.
Percy: *Arrives* Sir, I don't like being an engineer.
Pete: Why not?
Percy: Nopony likes me anymore. They think I'm terrible.
Pete: What did you do?
Percy: I did nothing wrong, I even stopped Orion from trying to leave too soon.
Pete: I think I know what's happening. You're not used to the job, and you want to get back to repairing tracks, and engines.
Percy: Yes sir.
Pete: Well, if that's what you want, I'll make it happen.
Percy: Thank you sir. *Notices mirror* Why are you looking at yourself in a mirror sir?
Pete: I just noticed that I'm getting some grey in my mane, and tail. After I turned fourty five last month, I was expecting this to happen.
Percy: I don't see any grey hair in your mane, or tail.
Pete: Thank you for your honesty.
Next day, Percy returned to his old job.
Hawkeye: Back to maintenance, huh?
Percy: Yes Pierce.
Hawkeye: Good for you Percy. I'm glad your wish came true.
