I saw this question so often around the forum and club in general, I wanted to give my answer. I’ve been firmly Captain Swan since the bean-stalk, so keep that in mind while I point out all of Hook’s shortcomings.

I believe there are many reason to this dislike of Hook.
When Mary Margaret and Emma first met Hook, he was working with a woman who had just murdered an entire village, lied to their faces and was planning to double cross them. Snow knew him by reputation as a ruthless pirate captain, and repeatedly told her daughter not to trust him. He later ripped the heart out of Aurora to give it to Cora and imprisoned all of them.
Lets, please, not pretend he his a lot better than Regina. That he didn’t kill, maybe even in cold blood, and cheat and lie to get revenge. The numbers may be different, but it doesn’t change the ‘sin’. He may not have enacted a curse to make everyone as miserable as he was but that’s just because he couldn’t exactly ask Rumplestiltskin for help in learning magic. In this show being consumed by vengeance isn’t really a good starting point for a character to develop from. It’s not an easy thing to let go of, and...

I was on Eonline's spoiler chat page, and even though the spoilers were about various different shows, the only things people were posting comments on were Captain Swan. The nice comments were very very nice, but the bad comments were, well...they all looked as if they had been written by the same person. (They hadn't). Believe me, I do try to stay away from stuff like that, but there are times when you can't avoid it. What was strange though, was that they were all arguments (if you can call them that), I had heard before.

1. "Captain Swan are 'forced' " (Also, "Captain Swan is 'rushed' ").

The first time I heard this was in S2, and it baffled me. As far as I was concerned, there weren't nearly enough CS scenes for me to consume, and here was this person spouting off about how 'forced' they were, as if the writers were foisting any old scene of them on us at every opportunity. To argue that CS are 'forced' implies that the 2 don't have any chemistry, only for the writers to tirelessly plough on, insisting that the viewers ship them. I've seen people try to be clever here, and claim Hook went from being a 'villain' who 'tried to kill Emma and her...

In 'The Perks of Being A Wallflower', Charlie witnesses an upsetting incident between his older sister and her boyfriend, and is troubled when she stays with him. Charlie asks his English teacher "Why do nice people choose the wrong people to date?" His teacher tells him: "We accept the love we think we deserve."
"Can we make them know they deserve more?" Charlie asks. "We can try," the teacher replies.
I was thinking about this quote in the context of Swanfire and CS and certain things Emma said about Neal which I think probably confused CS shippers and made Swanfire fans feel justified in their belief that their ship would be endgame. (I'm referring to the times she said she loved him/would always love him).

I'm not out to vilify Neal in any way; but I can't help but feel, well...baffled, whenever I hear the lengths SF fans go to to exonerate his treatment of Emma. I know it's a fantasy show and they're fictional characters, but if a boyfriend you were madly in love with shopped you to the police for a crime you didn't commit and believed he was doing it for your own good, then didn't go looking for you after you were released from prison because...

"There's not a day will go I won't think of you." - Hook in 3x11
"...Not a day goes by that I have not thought of you." - Charming's letter to Snow in 1x10

I saw certain comments from the unofficial 'We Hate Captain Swan' club on the OUAT spot and couldn't help chuckling quietly to myself when they asked 'Why did it have to be Hook who finds Emma in New York?" and "It should've been Neal!" How unobservant and dim is it possible for them to be?! Isn't it crystal clear at this stage in the show who Emma's true love is? (or should be?). In case you missed it, or need a quick recap, let's look at the facts again. Bear in mind: this is not wishful thinking on my part. It's what has been given to us on the show.

On OUAT, 'true love' is defined as being about honor, sacrifice, hope, faith, and never giving up. It's also about putting the one you love first. It's been consistently emphasized that Hook will do anything for the things he feels passionately about, whether it's about getting revenge, or whether it's for love. Therefore, it's completely in sync with his character for him to find a way back to Emma. It's been noted by various...

I. AM. FREAKING. OUT.

Okay! So two things..

When Hook was saying bye to Emma, did he really say "That's quite a vessel you got there, Captain Swan."? Because I swear that's what I heard. And it may just be a coincidence, but he said CAPTAINSWAN. Could it be a sign?

But second...and most importantly...WHAT DOES HOOK KISSING EMMA IN NEW YORK AND NOT BREAKING THE CURSE OVER HER MEMORIES MEAN?! (And just in case you haven't figured it out yourself, this is definitely why I'm freaking out). Because they've always made it seem like true love's kiss can break any curse or something along those lines. So does the fact that Hook kissed Emma and it didn't bring back her memories mean that they aren't true loves? Or does it have to do with the fact that Emma lost her memories and therefor has no memory of meeting Hook? But didn't Snow take a potion that rid herself of her memories and she forgot about Charming and that still worked out? I have a bad memory and it's been a loong time since I've seen that episode.

This is from Nerdy Girl Notes review of 3x06 link and is NOT mine!

I was shocked when Hook became the first one to tell his secret. He had nothing to gain by telling his secret at all, let alone going first. But he knew that in order for Emma to get to Neal - to the man Hook thinks is her happiness - he had to prove that this was how the cave worked, so he did the honorable thing - and he did it for her happiness. Colin O' Donoghue was excellent once again in this episode, especially in the smallest details, such as the way he seemed to steel himself before sharing his secret, knowing he's about to make himself as vulnerable as he's been in 300 years for a woman he thinks could never love him back now that Neal is alive.

Episode after episode this season, Hook has absolutely floored me with his sincerity, but nothing he's done so far - not his "Perhaps I would", not even his reaction to Emma's kiss - prepared me for the intimate honesty of his confession to Emma. He loved Milah for 300 years, and he lost hope of ever...

This was originally posted by link and is NOT MINE.

At this point it's evident that Hook is the most honorable male figure next to Charming. He chose to put his feelings aside, and reveal the secret he knew could possibly ruin his chances of being with Emma. True love is selflessness. Killian Jones became the notorious villain Captain Hook the moment Milah was murdered in front of him. Killian Jones returned the moment he chose Emma and a life of nobility again. Fundamentally, everything he's done on this journey has been for Emma. There's no denying that he's in love with her now: "I never thought I'd be capable of letting go of my first love, my Milah. To believe that I could find someone else. That is, until I met you." As breathtaking and remarkable last week's kiss was, this moment spoke wonders for the pair. To Emma, it may have been just a kiss, but as we've said before, she really has no time to evaluate her feelings just yet. Captain Swan bring out the best in each other. They're made to heal every wound that's...

"Neal genuinely loved Tamara and moved on with her." - Eddy Kitsis

"When you truly love someone, you can never move on." - Knave of Hearts

So, CANON speaking because even Eddy confirmed it so you can stop saying Neal never loved her, Neal did love Tamara and moved on with her. He chose her, built a life with her, and wanted a future with her even though he knew that Emma was out there. He knew all the shit he put her though and he still chose to ignore it- never even coming back for her when the curse was broken. So that line from OUATIW (which is always written by Adam and Eddy, so I assume on some things they do keep the same beliefs and perspectives since it’s still their writing, IMO) is exactly why Neal and Emma are NOT meant to be. Why his love for her wasn’t enough to stay, to come back, to not move on. If Neal truly loved Emma, he would have done anything to go back to her and fight for her, but not when it’s more convenient to him. Not after he just found out his fiancè betrayed him- that’s too easy. That’s still taking the easy way out. Emma Swan is NO ONE’s rebound. She’s not a fucking consolation prize you settle for only because...

“I like to be surprised when I watch television, and nothing on television right now is surprising me more than Captain Hook’s sincere feelings for Emma. Their initial flirtation in this episode was very cute (the bit about perms was hilarious), and I liked that Emma actually seemed to be bantering with him and flirting with him rather than just rolling her eyes. The girl needs something to make her smile, and I think Hook could be exactly that. All of that initial flirting culminated in the scene where Hook once again offers Emma rum to heal her wounds. I’m continually impressed with just how intuitive Hook is concerning Emma; he can read her so well, and he offers her a kind of comfort she can accept because it’s simple. He’s not trying too hard like her parents; he’s just a pirate with a flask of rum and a knack for knowing exactly when she needs it.I loved the way that scene progressed, from the simple intimacy of drinking together from the same flask to the way Emma suggestively says, “Wouldn’t you like to know?” But then the whole flirtatious tone of the scene shifts when Hook tells her that he does want to know her. The sincerity O’Donoghue gave to that...

I saw this on Tumblr and thought it was really interesting:

Edward Kitsis: (Talking about Charming) "And if he would have taken the easy way out, and just pretended to be King George's son, would have lived an easier life, but he fell in love and he gave all of that up for Snow White."

Killian/Hook in 2x04: "A man unwilling to fight for what he wants deserves what he gets."

Neal in 3x01: "I was afraid she would never forgive me, so I wound up taking the easy way out, just not trying."

To me, the above quotes perfectly sum up why Emma and Neal should not be together. I've heard many an argument from a Swanfire shipper who will literally defend Neal until they're blue in the face. "He was scared." "He did it because he wanted what was best for Emma." "He had no other choice." "He made a mistake, and now he's sorry. He's going to make his way back to her and everything will be fine. Mistakes happen, after all." But at the end of the day, it is what it is. It would be all wrong for Neal to end up with Emma after what he did to her. I don't doubt that he's sorry, or that he'll find her again, but it would be nothing...

This is my trying to briefly outline the reasons I like Captain Swan so much as well as the reasons I could never get behind any of the other popular ships with these characters. Be warned though, this maybe updated an edited later on as I remember ships and reasons I want to talk about. Also, anyone who has read my other articles on the Once Upon a Time fan page will probably notice a lot of overlap.

First up: Captain Swan. Both Emma and Hook are the type of personalities the other needs. Emma needs someone who will worship her. She needs someone who she knows she can trust with her feelings and her love. Hook maybe a rogue, a flirt and a scoundrel but when he loves he loves so deeply. As I said in another article: he's very much a character of extremes. When he hates he hates with all his being but he loves the same way. You can see this is how he dealt with the situation with Milah. He wasn't ever able to come to terms with her death to grieve properly and instead he became obsessed with revenge. So much so he traveled to a land where he would never grow old and die so that he would have enough time to discover a way to kill the most powerful being in all the...

On Thursday, Josh Dallas, Colin O’Donoghue, Sonequa Martin-Green and Ethan Embry filmed a scene together. They were in a place that we could not see what they were filming but we could hear a bit and it sounded like they were filming a fighting scene. After a few hours of being there, Colin came out to take pictures. A fan in front of me in the line was giving me her camera and she had her dog that was named Emma with her and Colin said “Here, let me hold her. I know how to handle Emma’s”

Colin just keeps on killing us. Sometimes it's with his magical eyebrow sometimes it's with these little CS comments :)

Question: Once Upon a Time‘s Henry/Neal/Emma rocked “Manhattan.” What’s next for my favorite family? —Patti

Answer: What’s next? Uh, major complications. ”Emma’s not going to forgive Neal or ask for him to be in her life romantically, but she at least feels that it would probably be best for Henry to have Neal in his life,” Jennifer Morrison told TVLine’s Matt Mitovich. “But in the midst of Emma asking Neal [about that], it’s revealed to her that he has a fiancee, a whole life that’s been going on. So, that definitely is complicated!”

So this is the best thing for our ship. Emma is left with only one possible suitor and that's HOOK. Our ship has set sail. Let's celebrate with some run, shall we :D

Is there any news about Once Upon a Time‘s Hook and Emma? I’m so hoping they hook up cause they make a good pair. –Jennifer

For starters, the wordplay whore in me will forgive and even applaud your use of “hook up” in this context. Secondly, I will tell you that I have a full-blown Q&A with Colin O’Donoghue posting closer to the show’s Jan. 6 return that will address this and other hot topics. (Something to keep in mind: Will Charming let this scoundrel anywhere near his daughter?) And lastly, here’s a random other scooplet: Sources confirm that the “Tiny” Episode 13 I told you about last week will in fact feature the return of Jorge Garcia and unspool “a story/backstory that touches many core characters in a surprising way.”

Now that Once Upon a Time‘s Hook is out in the open, will we get to see him interact with the other residents of Storybrooke? –Stefanie

You mean, presuming he survived getting mowed down by The Outsider, right? (Of course he lives.) Well, to perhaps – perhaps! – answer your question, I’ll offer up this scooplet. [b]“Emma’s love life is going to get really...

Do you know how Emma and Hook’s relationship will evolve ?

I think that Hook is sincerely attracted to Emma. She has a big personality and an iron will which can only seduce him. They feel a sort of mutual respect because they are alike in many aspects. Not sure that their relations will become romantic however, because for now, Emma has mostly the habit of tying me down to what she can find to prevent me from following her. I spent a big part of my time on the show tied down by the way. Personally, I don’t see any problem in that. Anyway, Hook is pretty good at getting himself out of any situation, even the most dangerous.

Were you expecting such an enthusiastic reaction from fans?

No, I was really surprised. I wasn’t expecting myself to start a hysteria on the internet. My family is teasing me a lot and it makes my wife laugh a lot too. [laughs] It’s really weird. I had never been associated to a project that triggered so many reactions so it’s all very new for me. And the guys from my rock band find this hilarious. I have a confession to make: I am currently in the throes of an addiction. An addiction to Captain Swan. The absence of any new scenes of them has only succeeded in making it worse. I have now resorted to googling 'Emma and Hook' every day or so in case I come across some wonderful spoilers/pics/news of them. Pretty soon, I discovered that not everybody liked or supported the shipping of Emma and Hook, and I realised that although their popularity seemed to be strong, there were a lot of arguments against them too. I thought it was worth looking at some of them in more depth, because in my opinion, the writers and producers have more reasons to give us Captain Swan than not do anything with them at all.

The people who are opposed to an Emma and Hook pairing seem to have been coloured by their dislike of Hook as a character or their conviction that because he's a 'villain' then he shouldn't be with someone like Emma. Some seem resentful and annoyed of all the attention CS are receiving. Others think the two don't have any chemistry, or openly roll their eyes, saying that Hook has chemistry with everyone, and that it doesn't mean anything. Obviously chemistry is...

Guys, I noticed that a lot of OUAT fans hate even the idea of Emma being with Hook, and that annoys me, A LOT! I am crazy about this ship and I really don't understand why don't they like it!
I saw somewhere a comment like:People don't like Emma and Hook because he's evil, and yet Regina or/and Gold is/are their favorite character(s). And I totally agree with it!
Maybe that's the point..Emma can change him, make him better, and he can do the same for her!
We all saw how hurt Hook was when she left him on that beanstalk. That showed me that he is still capable of having strong feelings about a girl. He haven't showed them in a long while, not after Millah died, but he did it for her. That tells us something, right?
I will never stop shipping them and I will go down with this ship!<3
