**JOURNAL ENTRY**
I didn’t sleep much that first night, and when I did I had horrible nightmares of last night’s events. Whenever I actually fell asleep, I awoke to find myself screaming. Alice, who I hadn’t spent much time with in school, stuck by my side. The next three months were a rough blur of sleepless nights and endless days. 3 funerals in a week. I barely ate, never really enjoyed myself. It was getting harder and harder to pretend that everything was ok. I contemplated joining my parents and sister but I refused to give Lianna (wherever she may be) the satisfaction. I decided to take a break from school, and I ended things with my boyfriend who turned out to be a complete asshole now that I was traumatized by what had happened. The Cullens told me that they were vampires, as if I didn’t have enough to deal with, but seemed intent on proving that they weren’t going to cause me any harm. I took a leap of faith and put my trust in that family, seeing as mine was gone.
A quiet knock on the door startled me. I leapt up, grabbing a knife and hiding it behind my back. Peeking out the peephole, I saw that it was Carlisle. I tossed the knife on the table- I never left myself unguarded because Lianna was still at large- and opened the door. “Carlisle! I didn’t expect to see you here!” I stepped aside, letting him in. “Everyone is off doing his or her own thing, and tonight is my night off.” He smiled at me. “Well, I’m fairly boring but you can join me tonight. Pasta is just about ready, you can join me while I eat if you want.” I offered. We weren’t officially going out, but there was something undeniable between us even if no one wanted to say anything. Carlisle grinned. “Sounds lovely.” Three hours later, the credits for The Blindside rolled. I caught his eye and scooted closer to him on the couch. Silently he reached forward and brushed my hair back out of my face. I shoved the pillows out of the way and leaned forward, putting my trust, my heart, on the line and kissed him. He paused for the briefest of seconds then kissed me back, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me onto his lap. “You make me feel whole again whenever I’m around you.” I murmured against his perfect marble lips. “I think I’m in love with you Callie.” He whispered. I grabbed his hand and pulled him into the guest bedroom, the closest bed there was. I shut the blinds and crossed the room, pushing him gently onto the bed. I kissed him with everything I had, tugging at his shirt. “Are you sure?” H asked when he broke away to pull it over his head. I nodded. He didn’t need to be told twice. He tugged his jeans off and climbed over me in nothing but his boxers. My heart was pounding in my chest. His cool hands traveled along my body, pausing to pull off my cami and shorts. I could hear the plastic hooks of my bra strap breaking as he yanked it out of the way. With his legs still straddling mine, he ran his lips down the length of my body, pausing where my panties were. I gasped as his cool fingers brushed down my thighs, tossing the remainder of my clothing to the floor and adding his to the pile. I marveled at his perfect ablaster pale body.
I woke to the sound of footsteps. Carlisle appeared at my door, dressed and smiling. “Good morning.” I mumbled sleepily. “Morning. The gang next door is just about to have breakfast, why don’t you join them?” I nodded. “That would be great, I really don’t feel like making breakfast this morning. Are you off to work?” I asked. He nodded. I pouted for a few seconds, but laughed when he came over. “I have to take off, I’m late. I swear I’m not the type who sleeps with a girl then runs!” He exclaimed. “I believe you,” I smiled up at him. “Have a good day, try not to kill anyone!” I called after him as he left. I could hear him laughing on the driveway. I hurried to get dressed, throwing on the some sweats and a tee over my matching Victoria’s Secret bra and panties. I threw on a sweater and jogged next door. Hmm, my arms were aching. Whatever, probably just slept on them funny. I thought to myself as I joined the wolves and Nessie at the table. “I hope you saved me some pancakes!” I said as I sat in an empty chair and grabbed a plate. “Well good morning to you too.” Seth grinned at me as he passed down the quickly dimishing stack of golden brown disks. I grabbed my share and wolfed them down. Breakfast passed quickly as the majority of the vamps were eager to get out and hunt. Alice, Bella and Edward hung back. The couple headed to the basement, and Alice and I went up to the room that her and Jasper shared. I stretched and tugged off my sweater. I hadn’t even gotten it over my head when I heard Alice gasp. “What is it?” I asked, tossing my sweater away and looking around in a panic. Alice was staring at me with a mixture of shock and horror. Wordlessly she walked over to me and yanked my shirt off. “Hey! What the hell…” I started to protest. She dragged me over to the closet doors that doubled as mirrors. I looked at my reflection and my jaw dropped. I was covered in bruises. Long purple marks disappeared into the hem of my pants. I slowly stepped out of them. The bruises covered my shoulders, back, and stomach. Alice stepped behind me and I felt her place her cold hand lightly on my shoulder. “Ouch!” I exclaimed. The cool touch made the ache better but even the lightest of pressures made it hurt like a little bitch. I tried to move away, but she slipped her other arm across my collarbone, trapping me in a grip that was impossible to shake. “Handprints.” She murmured to herself. “What were you doing last night?” She demanded. I pressed my lips together firmly. She looked as if she was in deep thought as she mouthed something, trying to piece it together. Lightbulb moment. “Ohmygod! You-“ She broke off and lowered her voice to an almost inaudible tone. “You slept with Carlisle?!” She hissed. I looked away. “Callie, do you have any idea how dangerous it is for a human to be with a vampire like that!” She narrowed her eyes as I shrugged. The instant she loosened her grip I yanked myself free, putting my back to the wall. “Where else are you hurt?” She asked suspiciously. “I’m fine.” I bluffed. It wasn’t his fault he was strong. I sat down, hoping it would hide the marks on my legs. “Callie. Seriously, it’s not safe. Carlisle, even the most careful of us all is not going to be able to prevent you from being completely unharmed. The slightest distraction and you could be killed. I rolled my eyes. “You think this is a joke?” She snapped. “I think you need to back off.” My tone was steely and cold now, as I glared at her. “I would back off if you would realize that what you are doing is moronic! What happened to Bella almost killed her, so God help you if you weren’t being safe last night. And as if pregnancy was the only thing you have to worry about. Carlisle. Is. A. VAMPIRE. He could very easily kill you without meaning to! Why can’t you get that through your head!” I stepped away from the wall and yanked my clothes back on. “What I do with my personal life is MY BUSINESS. Why can’t you get that through your head!” I stormed out of the room and stomped down the stairs. I could feel gazes on my back. I made sure the door slammed loud enough that I heard crystal rattling inside. Good, I thought. It’s not like they can’t cough up the money to replace it. I clomped across the frozen grass. I was in a nasty mood for the rest of the day.

Esme's POV
Ontario, Canada
8 years later
"Emmeline! Celestia! Stay close to mommy!" my voice was loud and powerful, the young girls listening to my every word. We entered the warm house and stripped of our coates and mittens, the snow layering the hard-wood floor.
"Ahh..love, your home." Carlisle came out of his study and gave us all a big hug. I still remembered the day when I got him back.
The heart-beats of us three were different, the girls more full.I was glad they had been full human, probably from the effect the antidote. But the baby I was carrying now, my sweet Benjamin, I was afraid he would be half, like me.
Carlisle kissed me and rubbed my swollen abdomen lovingly. No, everything would be okay.
~~~~
Benjamin came into the world perfect however, and all the children loved him. But something was in his eyes, someone lived on in him. And I knew exactly who.
