The next day Cas woke up in a hospital bed. He threw the sheets off and got out of bed. He walked to the window and moved the curtains. Looking down he realized jumping out of the window wouldn’t be an option.
The door opened and an intern walked in.
“Good morning, Castiel” she said cheerful. She walked to the fold-out table and put Cas’ breakfast down. “It’s pretty outside, isn’t it?”
Cas closed his eyes. In his head the white was mixed with red.
“Hey, are you okay?” the intern asked as she walked towards him. Cas opened his eyes again and blinked. He averted to the intern and noticed her name card. Meg, it said. Without thinking Cas reached out his hand and touched the card.
Thinking Cas was trying to assault her, Meg punched him in the face. Cas widened his eyes in shock and touched his nose. When he saw the blood on his hands he let out a cry and ran to a corner, sinking down on the ground.
“Damn it” Meg cursed. She walked quickly to Cas and knelt. “Ssshhh” she hushed. “Someone could hear you. Look, I’m sorry I punched you. I just thought you were attacking me”
Unfortunately the door opened again and a nurse looked inside the room. “What’s going on?”
Cas looked at Meg, before burying his face in his knees. “Did you do that?” the nurse asked reproaching.
“Yes, but…I can explain” Meg staggered nervous.
“Yeah? Why don’t you try explaining it to the head chief? You know where his office is?” the nurse asked angry.
Meg nodded scared and walked outside.
The nurse walked towards Cas and forced him to stand up. She took his chin and examined his nose. “Shallow. It’s just a lot of blood. It’s not broken” she established. Cas sniffed. “Yeah, I know it hurts. Let’s get you cleaned up, okay?”

Since there was no way any of them was going to get any sleep, they packed their bags and loaded the Impala. Dean placed himself behind the wheel, Sam sat next to him and Meg on the backseat.
“First stop: Pontiac, Illinois” Dean said, as he started the engines and drove ahead. As they drove Dean turned on the radio to break the silence.
Meg stared out of the window. She felt utterly powerless. Had she still been a demon she would’ve just zapped herself to him. But then maybe she wouldn’t have felt this way and she wouldn’t even bother to go find him.
Maybe this was a sign. Maybe she was supposed to let go and go back to her old life.
No!, she reproached herself. You’re not going back to killing for fun. You didn’t get this far to throw it all away. You’re going to find Cas and get him back.
“Everything okay, there?” Dean asked.
“Yeah, I’m good” Meg replied with a mischievous smile.
