His Move
It all seemed so surreal for the Cast and Crew on the set of Wizards. For the past week, Selena had managed to get by without breaking down in tears, but today was proving more unbearable. She locked eyes with her co-star David Henrie. These moments all the more frequent and soon to be rare. He squeezed her shoulder, reassuringly as he passed her by. His strange sense of knowing her all the more endearing. She watched as he talked to the crew, seemingly cool and calm and watched his lips as he talked, then quickly looked away. No good could come of that. David glanced Selena's way. He wasn't sure how to handle the idea of not seeing her as often, their talks, the hugs, her smile and her infectious laugh. Even the way she spat gum into the air, was endearing, however gross it may seem to others. This past week had been tough on her, the past few months even tougher.
'Sorry' he said to the Director, realising he hadn't been listening at all.
Later on set as they acted out a scene together, the banter and the laughs, Selena finally broke down and the tears fell. The Director called 'CUT' David quickly pulled her aside, retreating to a private corner in the studio and held her in his arms. She moved even closer and the realisation that this would be no more, made it all the more painful.
'I'm going to miss everyone, so much' she said, but thinking she was going to miss him far more.
'we will stay in touch' he said determined and taking her face in his hands wiped the tears from her cheeks with his thumbs.
'you say that now, but..'
'you can do this Sel'
Her eyes met his, and there was the unspoken, that neither could say nor deny. She innocently chewed on her bottome lip, and his eyes moved over her face, his expression caused her heart to skip a beat, her stomach filled with butterflies as he slowly brought his lips to hers,almost waiting for her to move, but she wanted this as much as he did.
He captured her lips in a passionate kiss, albeit all too brief and quickly stepped back, his hands dropped to his side. They stood for the longest moment, then he ran his hand through his hair and shifted uneasily.
'Sorry, I shouldn't have...' he saw the surprise in her eyes. He stepped further back 'Sorry' he said again, before the rest of the cast and crew appeared back on the set. For the rest of the scene, her mind kept flashing back to his lips on hers. She hadn't been surprised by the kiss, she was surprised that he had stopped. David was angry with himself. Their friendship too precious to lose now. He briefly caught her smiling and laughing, her tears just below the surface. Not too much damage done, he thought. Hopefully.
He sat in his dressing room, when the door opened and closed. He knew it was her, he felt her.
'Earlier' she started 'you surprised me, but'
He stood and met her gaze.
'I know. And I'm sorry' he took her hand.
'Surprise me again' she said softly.
'What?!' he dropped her hand. Did he hear right?
She smiled and he guessed she had clued on. For although he was 3 years older, he was still sensitive, still unsure and certainly not as experienced as some might think. And darn it, she knew it!
'I don't bite' she teased, feeling empowered by his insecurities.
'mmm...but I might' he whispered and she caught her breath as he pulled her hard up against him and his lips covered hers.
The crew packing up the studio for the night all but a murmur in the distance.
