Elena made the right call

After a whole day of Elena-how-could-yous and oh-poor-Damons, I came to realise that, Elena made the right decision of choosing Stefan RIGHT NOW.
It’s because she still loves him.

And so, she can’t be with Damon YET. “I care about you, which is why I have to let you go”. I know we are all angry that it’s still “I care about you”, but say she admitted she loves Damon knowing that she’s choosing Stefan (for now) anyway, isn’t that just too cruel? She loves him, but she’s not ENTIRELY in-love with him. She only just acknowledged that she has feelings for him.

Choosing Damon now would seem like a way “to get him out of her system” and she doesn’t want to do that to him. Damon deserves MORE than a woman who still loves another. He deserves someone who will love him wholly; not half-empty or half-full, but FULLY. She loves him enough to want that for him, which is why she had to let him go. She can’t be selfish; she can’t take advantage of Damon’s love. That would be “too Katherine” and that’s not as a compliment.

Therefore, she’s right to go back to Stefan at the moment. She needs to know if they are still going to work despite everything Stefan did to hurt her and push her away; she needs to know instead of constantly wondering “what if”. Because let’s be honest, Stefan might be a self-righteous ass, but what he did for his brother was one of the reasons for his downfall. Meeting him INSPIRED Elena how to live again and partly the reason why she chose Sefan; not because she owes him (as she mentioned to Matt), but it’s because she has this idea of what love should be, “you should love the person that made you glad that you’re alive”. Do you? Anyway, no one can tell her what loves is, she needs to figure that out by herself.
