As someone who advocates for reducing entrenched sexism in our society, I understand the sentiment. However, I also think there's nothing wrong with schools enforcing professional dress codes for their student body. There will always be appropriate and inappropriate attire "in the real world", particularly in the workforce which essentially is where schooling leads. It sounds unduly harsh, but kids should get over the self-centred ideal of "expressing their individuality" through their appearance (as if you can't do that within the normal boundaries anyway?) and appreciate that there are greater reasons dress codes are in place.

^ I understand that there has to be a line, like girls shouldn't be showing their asses or too much cleavage, but where the line is currently drawn is sexist as hell. Girls can't wear tank tops but boys can? Girls can't wear leggings but boys can have their asses hanging out of their pants? That's unfair and that needs to be changed.

Tamore's right. The problem with school dress codes is they generally target clothing worn by girls way more than what boys wear, and when they DO target male clothing, it's generally students of color who suffer, such as "link." Also, low-income schools have the highest suspensions based on dress code violations.
