Chapter 14: The Court of Miracles

The pair made there way to the cemetery across the river canal where they came upon a grave with same cross symbol "This looks like the symbol on the map" "But what does it mean" asked Quasimodo "Hmm not sure" said Phoebus taking the torch for Quasimodo " I can make an inscription but its going to take a few minutes to translate it" when Quasi noticed that graves lid was loose he pulled it off "Yes well ugh or we could just go down those stairs" Phoebus went first it was dark and creepy full of skeletons, spiderwebs, and all sorts of bugs "Is this the Court of Miracles?" asked Quasimodo ", "Off hand i'd say its the court of ankle deep sewage must be the old catacomes" as they walked threw the dirty filthy water as skeletons began to move "Cheerful place kinda makes you wish you got out more often hey Quasi", "Not me I just want to find the girls and get back to the bell tower before I get into anymore trouble", "Speaking of trouble we should have run into some by now", "What do you mean?", "You know a guard, a bobby trap, or an ambush" suddenly their torch light went out and they were surrounded by male gypsies in skeleton body suits with torches as they jumped down from the on top of the entrances towards the ceiling grabbing a hold of them dropping their knees to the ground "Well well well what do we have here" asked Clopin "Trespassers", "Spies", "We're not spies", "You gotta listen" before Quasimodo or Phoebus could explain they covered their mouths with bandanas tying them with ropes "Don't interrupt me your very clever to have found our hideaway unfortunately you won't live to tell the" lighting two torches Clopin began to sing with the other gypsies.

"Maybe you've heard of a terrible place where the soundrels of Pari collect in a lair maybe you've heard of that mythical place called the Court of Miracles", "Hello, you're there!", " Where the lame can walk and the blind can see", "But the dead don't talk so you won't be around to reveal what you've found", "We have a method for spies and intruders rather like hornets protecting their hive here in the Court of Miracles where it's a miracle if you get out alive!". Making there way out of the catacombs they went into a large chamber full of colorful fabrics hanging from the ceiling for decorations, and rows fills with different colored pitched tents, venders, wagons, and shops as they lead Quasimodo and Phoebus onto the hanging platform. "Gather round everybody there's good noose tonight it's a double header" the crowd booed "A couple of Frollo's spies and not just any spies his captain of the guard and his loyal bell ringing henchmen" said Clopin as he did an impression of them changing his clothes that looked like Frollo dancing around hitting Phoebus on the head with a mini mallet "Justice is swift in the Court of Miracles I am the lawyers and judge all in one we like to get the trial over with quickly because it's the sentence that's really the fun!", changing into an executioner tightening the ropes on the poles "Any last words" the two tried to talk but it was nothing but mumbling "That's what they all say" changing back as a Frollo taking out his puppet "Now that we've seen all the evicence", " Wait! I object!", " Overruled!", " I object!", "Quiet!" slamming his hat on top of the puppet "Dang!" changing back into his normal clothes " We find you totally innocent which is the worst crime of all so you're going to hang!".
Clopin was about to pull the lever when someone yelled stop it was Esmerelda "These men aren't spies they're our friends", "Why didn't they say so", "WE DID SAY SO!" shouted Phoebus and Quasimodo as Esmerelda untied them "This is the man who saved the millers and his family and Quasimodo helped me escape from the cathedral", "We came to warn you Frollo's coming he says he knows where your hiding and he's attacking at dawn with a thousand men" announced Phoebus looking for Belle "Then let's waste no time we must leave immediately" the gypsies hurried in a panic getting there things and packing up.

"What's going on?" Belle asked as she came out of Esmerelda''s tent to see what all the commotion was about "It's Frollo he's coming here" said a female gypsy "How do you know?", "His captain of the guard told us", "Phoebus he's here?", "Yes he and the hunchback", "Quasimodo to?" Belle was shocked she couldn't believe "Yes if you don't believe me they're up there with Esmerelda I've gotta get packing I haven't got time for all these questions", "Thank you" she said seeing the three of them up by the hanging platform pushing her way through the crowd. "Phoebus Phoebus", "Belle" wrapping his arms around her "You took a terrible risk coming here", "I know but we had to warn everyone", "I'm so glad your alright" Phoebus held her close "Now that we're together I promise I won't let anything happen to you", "Nor will I", "Quasi" she smiled hugging him "Thank you this means so much to me", "And to me I know it doesn't exactly show but we're grateful" said Esmerelda "Don't thank me Quasimodo deserves all your thanks without his help I would never have found my way here", "Nor would I" suddenly Frollo appeared Phoebus quickly grabbed Belle as guards surrounded them blocking off all the exits no one could escape "Phoebus!", "Belle!" they cried as one of the guards pulled her away from him pinning their back behind them "After twenty years of searching the Court of Miracles is mine at last dear Quasimodo I always knew you would someday be of use to me", "No" Quasimodo said sadly "What are you talking about?" asked Belle "Why he lead me right to you my dear" running his finger across her cheek making her cringe "I knew I would find you and look what else I've in my net the gypsy girl and Captain Phoebus back from the dead another miracle no doubt", "LEAVE HIM ALONE! I'm the one you want take me instead", "No Belle ugh let go of me!", "Silence! Go on my dear" said Frollo with a smile on his face "If I go with you would you let Phoebus and the gypsies go?", "No Belle I won't let you do this!" said Esmerelda "Silence her!" one of the guards put a bandana over her mouth "Perhaps it's a shame I had to break up a touching reunion" looking at her and Phoebus "Frollo you have my word!", "Now now my dear don't make you decision so quickly think about hmm there will be a little bonfire in the square tomorrow and your all invited to attend LOCK THEM UP!", "NO PLEASE MASTER!" Quasimodo begged grabbing his robe "No no" kneeling on the ground his head on the floor "Take him back to the bell tower and make sure he stays there" Quasimodo let the guards take him his heart filled with hopelessness and despair as they dragged him back to the bell tower.
