There's been word out that the female lead from the upcoming Pixar/Disney film Brave may be the newest addition to the Disney Princess lineup. If she makes it in, this will give us a total of eleven princesses. Basically this is the Pro and Cons of adding Merida to the roster. Personally, I think she'll be a good addition to DP. I'm very excited and can't wait to see her movie and from what I've seen Merida's a pretty cool character. Her movie hasn't even premiered yet and I already like her better than Rapunzel. There are factors working against Merida when it comes to Disney Princess. So let's have a look see.
-She's Scottish, adding a little more diversity to the lineup.
-Her movie is guaranteed to be a popular hit, Pixar never misses.
-Like Belle, Mulan and Tiana, she's likely to be a pro-feminism princess.
-And like Jasmine, she's also refuses to be "a prize to be won"
-She seems to be a very good role model for tomboyish girls to relate to, similar to Mulan.
-Ginger girls finally have a Disney character that looks like them. Ariel does not have freckles.
-She'd be the first princess with an actual heavy accent. Even Belle doesn't have that.
Reasons Why Not
-She would be the only Disney Princess who doesn't sing as Pixar doesn't make musicals.
-I'm not sure but she might be the only princess without a love intrest.
-She'd be the only princess who's movie isn't based on a fairytale, legend or folklore.
-Her look is dark, so she'll have trouble blending in with the other bright coloured princesses.
-We already have a blue eyed and redheaded princess, Ariel.
Well there you have it. What do you think? Do you see Merida fitting into this picture? Like I said before, I think she would be good addition to the lineup despite having quite afew setbacks. Still it's not set in stone that Merida will be an official Disney Princess. Currently half of the answers point to yes and the other half points to no. Well, we just have to wait until Brave hits theaters.
