Remember when I did a countdown for my favourite outfits and dresses? Well because I like so many and kept changing my mind about the rankings, I decided to take it down. I'm more comfortable doing it this way, splitting them into categories.
My definition of "ball gown" is a formal dress worn in a ball room whether dancing or just present and watching. So that means I have excluded Ariel's pink gown and Tiana's lily pad dress from the countdown. They will be included in a different countdown under a suitable category.
7) Pocahontas' Gown
This is a cruel scene. The King has just rejected her request in getting on the with the negotiations and she has little choice but to attend the ball in hope that he can persuaded. She is forced to change herself in order to fit into their world. For example; she removes her mother's necklace and they whiten her skin with powder (That's not right! Her skin tone is much more beautiful without it - but I get the reason, it's part of history). Her hair is twisted un-naturally and decorated beads. She's never worn corsets before or those cages that go under the dress. Sure she likes the new necklace and enjoys learning how to dance, but when she's in front of the mirror, looking into it, she's not happy. The hairstyle she wears with the dress is over-the-top! The dress itself is again over-the-top. But colour-wise it suits her. The only bit I like is the gemstone pendent in the middle at the top of the dress. Thank goodness this only formal gown she wears though!
6) Belle's Christmas Gown
You're probably asking yourself why it's so low when it's a gorgeous dress of a gorgeous colour that really suits Belle? I can't appreciate a dress when the quality of the animation is bad. And the quality of this film is really bad! Film-wise it sucks, art-wise (Deviant Art; re-drawn by an artist) it's beautiful. But this countdown isn't for deviant art appreciation. It's all about the films and the film scenes where the dresses are in the spotlight.
5) Cinderella's Banquet Gown
Lovely colour but perhaps a little too bright for her. Aquamarine would suit Ariel or even Jasmine more. It's a different shape to her ball gown but I'm not sure I like the shape of the skirt. It seems like a copy of the original somehow and that's why it's low.
4) Ariel's Gown
The purple ball gown is pretty on 29 year old Ariel with her emerald jewelled crown. The skirt has pleats like a fan, it's weird. The long darker purple skirt over the skirt looks nice though. She has Jasmine's long sleeves with the same wrist cuffs, not as big of course but similar. The biggest problem with this dress is that it clashes with Melody's. It's almost exactly the same.
3) Cinderella's Gown
I have a like and dislike about this dress. Pros; sparkles, depending on what kind of light she's under her dress is different colour - white, silver or blue and she looks the happiest she's ever been in years! Cons: the hairstyle (they could have chosen a prettier up-do, this one is ugly!), shoulder pads (not a fan), the choker (why not a diamond necklace or something?), the size of the skirt (It's historic I know, my mum has a costume book of historic fashion that starts from the very early medieval times to the modern 90's. I've just not a fan meringue shaped skirts but to be fair compared to the huge skirt sizes on Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, Cinderella's skirt isn't that bad).
2) Aurora's Gown
The sharpest dress ever! As you know I like this dress a lot. But I think in order to fully enjoy the gown you've got to appreciate the ballroom dance. Pros: Seeing Aurora and Philip dancing as their true-selves in front of everyone, watching the trails of magic magically change her dress from blue to pink and back again as Aurora spins round with Philip. Cons: we see most of the dance in distant view with only a few shots in close-up.
1) Belle's Gown
A brunette in yellow and gold. I love their ballroom, they've got the best ballroom! The dress has frills which make it eye-catching. It looks as slim as Aurora's gown and the skirt half is puffy like Cinderella's but it seems smaller in size sometimes. I really like this dress, it brings back childhood memories when I had the dolls of ballroom belle and beast. The waltz they perform is my favourite out of all the other princess waltzes.

They thought I couldn’t handle it, I suppose.
I have worked so hard for this dream.
This hurts me so bad I want to scream.
What’s worse is I feel like I let my Father down.
He always wanted to open a restaurant in this town.
People will never get to taste his amazing recipes,
And that really upsets me.
I have worked so hard that I have missed out so much;
Spending time with friends, going out dancing and such.
I don’t want to be a waitress anymore,
I want to be a chef, not stuck taking orders and doing mundane chores.
It just doesn’t seem fair,
Because I was almost there.
