Courtney's POV: "Summer camp?! Mom, I have plans forthe summer. I'm going to Miami with Bridgette. Everything is already planned out. Summer camp would ruin everything."I said. "Oh Courtney, don't be so dramatic. I'm sure Bridgette can find someone else to go with her." my mom said. "She can't mom. I'm friends with all her friends. I know what they're doing this summer. Kristen and Crystal are in Colorado, Amy and Noel have surf competitions, and Lucy is visiting the Great Lakes."I said counting ff on my fingers. "Courtney, you're going and that's that." my mom said and continued to cook. "Ugggh!"I yelled and walked upstairs to my room. I flopped down on my bed and called Bridgette.
"Hey Bridge, I can't go to Miami."I said.
"My mom is making me go to this stupid summer camp."I said getting up and walking to the window.
"You guys got that letter in the mail too?! I've been trying my best to hide that from my parents. I think it's like some kind of brainwash to parents."Bridgette said.
Before I got to respond to Bridgette, I heard her mom call her name.
"I got to go. See ya." she said then hung up.
I closed my phone and held it in my hands. I felt it vibrate 3 times. I checked it. "1 new message from Bridgette Jones." the screen said.
"Nevermind about Miami. It's canceled. My dad foundthe letter and I'm going to the camp too. Better start packing." the text said.
I didn't reply. I put my phone in my back pocket and went downstairs. I grabbed the leter off the counter and read.
"Hello parents! Does your teen need something to do this summer? If so, stop looking for activities an continue reading. Lake Montgomery is a Summer Camp for teens looking for a good time. There are plenty of activities to keep your child busy. These activities include; jetskiing, wakeboarding, dancing, singing, painting, skateboarding, surfing, and much more! The first day of camp starts June 1st. See you there!" the letter said.
I checked the date on the calender as it said today was May 31st. "Bridgette's right. I better start packing."I told myself.
Duncan's POV: "I'm not going. You can forget it. I've got better things to do anyway."I said and started to walk upstairs.
Better things to do? You mean break the law?" my older brother, Danny, said.
"My juvenile record is none of your business."I said in a sharp tone and turning around on the stairs.
"It is when I'm paying your bail every time. I think summer camp will be good for you. It'll keep you outta the slammer. Hell, you might even make some friends." Danny said with a chuckle at the end.
"I do have friends."I claimed.
"I'm talking about friends who haven't broken the law before Duncan."Danny said. "Fine. But if I go, I'm bringing my knife."I said running the back of my neck.
Danny stood up from the couch and said, "Uh, no. Last time I said yes,you cut soebody an he had to go to the hospital. No way. You're not bringing that thing."
"That's not fair. You get to bring your knife everywhere you go." I said.
"That's because I'm 22 Duncan. You're 17. I'm responcible. You go to jail at least twice a week. You're not bringing it and that's that. Now go get packed. You're leaving tomorrow."Danny said.
"Tomorrow? Tomorro is Monday. Moday is my lazy day."I said.
"Not a problem. You can be lazy on the bus ride to camp. The bus will be here at about...5:45. Better get some sleep."he said.
"I hope you mean 5:45 in the afternoon."I said. Danny displayed an evil smile on his face and whispered, "In the morning."
"That's just evil."I said walking up to my room.
Courtney's POV: The next morning, I woke up thanks to my mom. I rolled over and checked the time on the digital clock. 4:30 a.m. Early right? Not for me. I take a while to get ready. I sat up and rubbed my eyes.I turned on my lamp and examined my bed. More than half the covers were on the floor. I must have been tossing and turning a lot last night. I got out of bed and turned on the overhead light. A lot of lights helps me wake up. Hey, we've all got quirks. I walked downstairs and poured Cheerios and milk into a bowl for breakfast.
After I ate, I went back upstairs and turned on the shower water. While the water started to heat up, I brushed my teeth. I stripped out of my clothes and got into the shower. After I got out of the shower, I wrapped a towel around myself and searched for clothes in my closet. I pulled out a grey, loose t-shirt, white short shorts with a brown leather belt, a black pair of sandals, earrings, a brown bag, and a tiger print scarf. I put the clothes on and fixed my hair. I looked in the mirror and was finally ready. I grabbed my suitcase and rolled it down the stairs Thump, thump, thump.
I hugged my mom, dad, and dog, Buddy, goodbye. I walked outside to the bus waiting at the end of my driveway. I stepped ont the bus and saw Bridgette waving at me from the back of the bus. I sat down next to her as the bus jerked forward and drove off. I hugged Bridgette as we started a conversation.
Duncan's POV: I woke up the next morning thanks to my dog licking me in the face. I slowly got out of bed and took a shower. When I got out, I wrapped a towel around my waist and looked in the mirror. I finger-combed my hair to my standards of perfection.
"You get better looking every damn day." I said with a smirk to my reflection.
I walked out of the bathroom and went through the clothes that were previously thrown on my bed. I picked out a pair of loose jeans with a bunch of holes in them, a tight white t-shirt, and my red high-tops.
"Yup, I'm ready."I said to myself. I grabbed my dufflebag and walked downstairs with it.
"Well, I'll see you in 2 months."I said to Danny.
He was drinking coffee at the kitchen counter . He ame over to me and gave me a bro hug goodbye.
"Call or text me if anything special happens." Danny said with a wink.
"Please Danny, the last thing I plan on doing at a summer camp is finding love." I said.
"I didn't say anything about finding love. Maybe you could get a one night stand while you're there."he said.
"Nah, that'll be too awkward. I mean, think about it. If I screw a girl, I'll have to be there and still see her for 2 months." I said.
"Well, I want you to have some fun while you're there. So here's something to keep in mind.I bet that you can't get any action while you're there."Danny said.
"You are so on."I said wth a smirk.
I ran back up to my room and snagged my knife off my nightstand. I don't listen to anybody. Danny is the number one person I don't listen to. I clipped it to my pocket and jogged out to the bus with my dufflebug. I stepped on the bus and saw my childhood friend, Geoff, motioning me to sit next to him. On my way to sit next to him, I saw 2 girls sitting in the seat in front of him.
The blonde was okay, but the bruenette was something else. You know how you're watching a 3D movie and everything is in your face? And you just have an urge to reach out and touch it? I had that same urge to reach out and run my finger through her hair. I'm pretty sure you'd think I'm gay for saying that, but, wow...And her eyes. Damn it! She caught me staring.
