Dylan O’Brien Reveals His Special Relationship In ‘The Maze Runner’

‘The Maze Runner’ is an action-packed flick, but is there still room for romance, in the midst of the race to survival? Dylan O’Brien tells HollywoodLife.com all about his special relationship in the highly-anticipated movie.

Dylan O’Brien Teases Romance In ‘The Maze Runner’

All you need is love, right? Not quite — at least when you’re thrown into the maze, and suddenly, you’re fighting for your life.

,” Dylan O’Brien tells HollywoodLife.com, cautiously. “What I love about it is it’s not a love interest, it’s not a romance because they’re in sort of a situation that doesn’t call for it. I feel like real people would never stop to like just kiss during these kind of things — death, possibly.”

Dylan certainly brings up a good point. The Gladers are trapped, and the flick’s shockingly gory scene proves that this isn’t an easy battle.

Romance or not, Thomas and Teresa (Kaya) form a special bond, and Dylan does leave room for the possibility of an on-screen kiss.

“The thing about our characters is we have a connection and it’s something that we have, we make each other feel comfortable in this world that we’ve been thrust into that is very uncomfortable,” the actor told us exclusively in July 2014 at the Young Hollywood Awards where he won for Breakthrough Actor. “We make each other feel safe, and we don’t know why, we don’t know how we know each other or if we even do, but there’s something kind of there and it’s beautiful, it’s pretty.”

Giving us a smirk (swoon!), Dylan teases, “There’s no like kissing scene — well, I don’t know! Maybe! You’ll have to check it out. But it’s not your typical type of romance. I kind of like that.”

Dylan O’Brien: Thomas Rises To Be The Leader In ‘The Maze Runner’

“I play Thomas, and he’s sort of the protagonist of the story. He’s kind of the eyes for the audience,” the 

. “What I love about the movie is it’s such a mystery throughout, and the way it’s told, it’s such a movie that I used to watch, as a kid.”

“Basically it starts off, you have no idea even what’s happening, and you kind of just learn as my character does, and as he goes, and as he experiences and he learns, that’s when you start finding out…he kind of finds the courage inside of him to rise to be the leader that these kids have all needed this whole time.”
