My name is Isabella Swan, and today I met Edward Cullen.
I was placed next to him in Bio, as soon as I sat down he moved his chair away from me and crinkled up his nose like their was a disgusting smell, I subtly smelt my hair, it wasn’t me, so what could the smell be? No one else was doing it, just him.
As soon as the bell rang he was out of the classroom before anyone was out of their seats, I had to go to the admissions office to order some books and he was there, asking to change classes, this made me angry, he hadn’t even spoken to me and he had already made his mind up, he hated me, but why? When he saw that I was in his presence he told the lady at the desk to leave it and walked out slamming the door behind him, I didn’t bother ordering the books; I just walked out and headed to my truck.
The car park was full of students messing about, running around and chasing after one another; this was high school, not playgroup, why did young adults have to act so immature? I wouldn’t normally be like this but Edward had annoyed me, he didn’t know me and he was judging me, all on my appearance, he hadn’t uttered one word to me, I turned around to throw my bag in the passenger seat and there he was, leaning against his Volvo, he was staring at me, expressionless.
All of a sudden there was a loud screech of brakes and all I saw was this black van coming towards me, before I could move out of the way, he was there, holding the van back so that it couldn’t crush us, he was holding onto my arm with his free hand, there was a dent in the van, but no harm had come to my truck or to either of us, with that, he walked away, not even looking back.
The next day I wanted to know how he had done what he had, as soon as he turned up and got out of his car our eyes locked, I walked past him and up into the woods and the forest that were adjoined to the school, he followed suit, he didn’t have to pick up pace to keep up with him, I was angry, scared and didn’t know what to think.
When we were out of earshot I turned around;
‘’How did you save me? You were over the other side of the lot, there was no way you could have made it to me in time’’ I asked
‘’Bella, I was standing right next to you’’ Edward said calmly
‘’ No you weren’t, you were standing with Rosalie, Emmett, Alice and Jasper’’ I said defiantly
‘’Believe what you want to believe, but you should know this, I was standing right next to you’’ Edward said as calmly again
As soon as he had said that he had disappeared, I looked around the forest but there was no trace of him, where he had been stood, opposite me, there were no footprints, nothing to show that he was there, I could have been on my own for all anybody else knew.
I had been talking to Jacob Black, he was my best friend about The Cullen’s and how Edward had managed to get to me so quick, he had said some things that intrigued me, and I wanted to know more, I knew I should have been scared but I wasn’t, even when I found out what I did, I wasn’t scared.
The routine in the parking lot was the same as the day before, he followed me into the woods, and everything was the same as yesterday.
‘’I know what you are’’ I said finally after minutes of silence and my breath finally escaped
‘’Say it then, say it out loud’’ Edward said calmly
‘’Vam, vampire’’ I finally got out
‘’And?’’
‘’And what?’’ I asked questioning
‘’Aren’t you scared? Scared that I could hurt you, right here, right now and no one would know, no one would be able to hear your screams’’ Edward asked, searching for an answer within my eyes
‘’I’m not scared, I know you wouldn’t hurt me’’ I said
And suddenly it all made sense, why he had been covering his nose, he had been able to smell my blood, he had wanted to hurt me there and then, in the classroom in front of all those students, he had wanted to bite me.
I questioned him; ‘’is that why you covered your nose in class? You could smell my blood couldn’t you?’’
‘’Yes, if I hadn’t had done that then you would be the same disgusting creature as me by now’’ Edward said, I could tell he was getting angry and I was getting scared
‘’You could never be disgusting, not in my eyes’’ I said shocked at how he had described himself.
I reached out and touched his stone like face, it was as cold as ice, he recoiled from my touch, I jumped, shocked.
‘’I’m sorry, but I find it hard to be around you, I wish so much that we could be friends but if we are then I know I won’t be able to control myself and my urges around you’’ Edward said
‘’I know you have more strength than that, if you were going to hurt me I think you would have done it by now’’ I said, scared of what he was going to say next
Instead he didn’t say anything, he pulled me onto his back and flew, past all the undergrowth and the trees, the sap hitting my face and tangling itself within my hair.
When we finally stopped and I opened my eyes, I couldn’t decipher where we were, but as my vision came back I could tell we were at the top of the mountain, below was the school and all the students I was supposed to call my friends.
‘I want to show you what I look like, in sunlight, this is the highest point, this is where I am able to show you’’ Edward spoke, making me jump
He walked into the sunlight, while doing so he unbuttoned his shirt; all of a sudden his chest was luminous and covered in what looked like diamonds.
‘’Your beautiful’’ I whispered to him, I made my way carefully towards him and put my hand on his chest, this time he didn’t recoil from my touch, he took my hand in his and caressed it, this was the moment I knew I had fallen in love with Edward Cullen.
At the end of the day we made our way down to the parking lot, I didn’t know whether Edward felt the same but it felt like we had bonded, we had a bond, I was the only mortal who knew his secret and I couldn’t tell anyone, or he would be destroyed, I knew everything about him, and in some strange way it felt like we had become friends.
He walked me to my truck that night opened the driver’s door for me and shut it behind me, I rolled down the window to say goodbye to him, and he told me he would see me the next day.
I was sat in my room with my legs crossed on my bed, I was speaking to Renee while working on some algebra when all of a sudden I noticed him in the corner of my room, she had just started to ask me about boys, I blushed, made my excuses and hung up the phone.
Our eyes locked, neither of us talked until he walked over to my bed and sat down and cradled my hand just like he had done earlier that day.
‘’There is something I want to try, but you need to stay completely still’’ Edward said
I was confused, but knew what was coming as his head moved closer to mine, he bent his head slightly to take my lips in his, his lips were cold but soft as he gently kissed me, I moved my hand to lock it around his neck, all of a sudden he threw himself off me, I knew what he had done, I knew his urges had become to strong and he wouldn’t be able to control himself if we went any further.
As he headed to my window my heart sank; ‘’Stay?’’ I asked him
He didn’t say anything else but walked over to my bed and laid down next to me, his hands caressed my hair while we talked, we had been talking for hours and I never noticed the time when I fell asleep.
The next morning he was laid next to me, awake as I woke. He greeted me with a tender kiss, as he pulled back I smiled at him and he smiled back.
‘’There’s something I need to tell you Bella, I don’t know whether you are going to think it’s good or bad’’ Edward said
‘’Okay’’ I said cautiously
‘’ I think, last night, after you falling asleep, well I think I fell’’ Edward said, before he could finish his sentence, I finished it for him
‘’In love with you’’ I said, smiling, he smiled back and we kissed again, this time it was more passionate, more intense and he didn’t throw himself off me this time, he could control himself around me.
I walked downstairs; Edward had gone out my bedroom window even though Charlie had already gone to work, I grabbed my backpack and made my way to Edward’s Volvo.
As the car pulled into one of the many free parking spaces I couldn’t help but notice that people were staring at us, Edward climbed out first and came round to my door to let me get out, as we walked into the school building he put his arm around my waist.
‘’People are staring’’ I whispered
‘’Vultures’’ Edward said smiling
I giggled at that comment, maybe Forks wasn’t going to be so bad after all.
