I don't own anything.
Rosalie's P.O.V.

I was having the worst of the worst of the absolute worst sort of day.

I stalked over to my car, yanked the door open, and then slammed it shut, trying to release some of my anger. The second I was in inside, I let out the shriek of a lifetime, pounding my palms on the steering wheel and shaking my head back and forth with the force of my scream.

And even after that, I didn't feel better, my throat just hurt. I probably hadn't screamed like that since I was about four years old. I reached into my bag, needing to vent out my frustrations before I drove home. My typical temper was getting the best of me once again.

I quickly dialed the number of my best friend and waited. When I heard someone pick up I started talking immediately.

"Bella? Thank god you picked up. If I don't talk to someone right now I'm going to absolutely explode! He called me! He just called me! And so of course I let it ring right through, it's not like I was actually going to talk to him, ya know? So I didn't pick up. And then right after that he sends me a text message asking me what my problem is? Can you believe the nerve of him? He cheats on me with that ugly girl and then acts like it was all my fault! Of COURSE it isn't his fault. GOD I could just strangle him! I should have listened to you from the beginning Bella, he turned out to be a huge insensitive asshole just like you said! He hasn't even apologized, or said sorry or anything! It's like he doesn't even care about our relationship!"

My anger was surging and my pride was stricken. But I did feel a little better getting everything off my chest, so I continued. "And it's not just that Bella! I just lost my job, so now I have to find another one. My boss was completely irrational today, and fired me the second I walked in late. Can you believe it? After all the work I've put in there? It just seems like everyone is out to get me today! Like its stab Rosalie in the back day or something!"

She hadn't said anything yet, so she must have known that I needed to just rant until I was finished. "I don't even know why I'm getting so mad. But you know what? I knew he wasn't the one. I knew we wouldn't last, but I stuck around because at least I thought he cared somewhat about me! But obviously he doesn't because he's not even sorry. He thinks I'll just come running back to him with open arms and forget about the whole thing. But why should I do that? I'm Rosalie Hale! And I mean, the sex wasn't even that great, he has nothing really going for him, he is so unmotivated in life and that's ridiculously unattractive! He doesn't even deserve me! God, I've been such a fool."

I let out a big sigh of relief. I already felt better, and I knew Bella would do her best to cheer me up. She always did. "So what do you think I should say to him?" I asked her, closing my eyes and leaning back on the headrest.

"I think you should break up him. He sounds like a loser." said a deep male voice that was most definitely not my best friends. My eyes shot open.

"He is obviously not good enough for you, and once a cheater, always a cheater. Well at least in my opinion." The voice continued.

Oh my god! It was a boy! And it didn't sound like Edward - who would be the only male to pick up Bella's phone. I think I was too shocked, because I just sat there, blinking, unable to speak although my mouth was moving.

"In fact, it sounds like you would be better off with anyone but him."

My jaw tightened.

"Who is this!" I finally shouted, gesturing with my hands even though I knew he couldn't see me.

"I'm Emmett." The voice sounded amused. "And I think somewhere during that little rant, you said you're name was Rosalie?"

"How did you get this number!" I demanded before thinking.

He chuckled. "You called me."

I quickly pulled the cell phone away from my ear and checked the number, realizing that in my haste I had dialed two digits incorrectly. My face turned bright red as I slammed the receiver back up to my cheek.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I fumed, completely disgusted at the nerve of this guy.

"Well I couldn't exactly get a word in," he said. "Besides, it sounded like you really needed to just let it all out."

"Yeah, well I thought I was talking to my friend!" I snapped. "Where do you get off listening to other's people's conversations?"

"What can I say? The whole thing was too interesting. Does it help if I told you I actually listened?" he said.

"It was rude to listen!" I countered. I put my car key in the ignition and it sputtered a little before dying out with an angry click. "Oh that's just great! Now my car won't start!" I yelled, completely forgetting for a moment I was on the phone.

"I don't think you should drive in your condition."

Now I was totally outraged. "Why are you still on my phone? You know what? Don't answer that, goodbye."

I snapped the phone shut and barely managed to not slam it against the dashboard. My pulse was beating so fast that for a second I realized maybe that obnoxious voice was right, and that I should probably calm down before I drove.

Not that I could go anywhere because my car wasn't starting.

Just as I was about to try again, my phone rang. I picked it up and stared at the unknown numbers. Once I realized that they were two off from Bella's, I cursed and snapped it open.

"Why are you calling me!" I demanded angrily.

"I really don't think you should drive Rose," the voice said. "You're upset."

"Yeah well, I can't exactly go anywhere, it won't even start. Sometimes if I wait five minutes…" I trailed off, wondering why I was explaining this to him. "Wait a minute, why am I telling you this? And more importantly, why did you call me back? And did you just call me Rose?"

"Yes, I did call you Rose. And, well it's hard not to be worried about you after you explained your entire life story."

"That was not my entire life story," I snapped defensively. "That was just my day."

"Right. So, you got fired because you came in late?" he asked, sounding amused as he effortlessly switched the subject.

I sighed, wondering what I did to deserve such an awful and weird day.

"Only because my boss was on a complete power trip and fired me the second I walked in the door!"

"That sucks. Was it your first time being late?"

"No."

"How many times were you late?" he asked.

"I don't know, a few," I lied impatiently.

He chuckled. "Maybe that's why you were fired."

I groaned in annoyance. "What is the point of this conversation? You're not really making me feel any better you weird phone psycho."

He laughed loudly. "Do I sound like a weird phone psycho?"

He didn't, but I wasn't going to tell him that. "No but you're acting like one."

"Well…I'm not. I guess you'll just have to take my word it. But about the job? It didn't even sound like you wanted to work there. Get a better one. If you're not happy, change it."

His light hearted attitude was irritating. I scowled and stared down at the phone. "Thanks for the advice, but I'm hanging up now."

Snapping the phone shut again, I frowned. The nerve of that guy. He was probably such a creep. Taking deep breaths, I rolled down the window, anxious for some fresh air. All that talking and yelling was exhausting.

A second later, my phone rang. I moaned in exasperation before picking it up.

"Are you seriously calling me again!" I demanded.

"Why did you hang up?" he countered playfully.

"I don't know, maybe because I don't know you?" I said.

He laughed. "I told you, I'm Emmett."

"Yeah, the creepy phone psycho. I got that. You're probably some old wrinkly man with a house full of cats and a computer full of porn."

"Actually no. I'm only twenty. And I hate cats."

"Really?" I said snidely. "I'm 20 too. There's nothing funnier than an age coincidence, huh?"

He laughed loudly, a deep rumbling sound. He sounded like a kid when he laughed.

"So I mean what I said before, your boyfriend sounds like a real jerk."

I narrowed my eyes, my mind becoming distracted as I got angry again. "He is. I hate him right now."

"You should. There's never an excuse for cheating. You deserve better." he said sincerely. When I just sighed, he continued. "And you already said he's not the one, so why waste your time?"

"Oh so every girl you date could possibly be your wife? Is that the philosophy you go by at 20 years old?"

"No." he answered honestly. "But I mean, why were you with him anyway? You said it yourself, the sex wasn't even that great."

I stiffened, becoming angry that he would have the audacity to bring that up.

"You just told me you weren't a pervert!" I seethed, pressing the phone against my ear.

"I'm not. I'm just confused. He cheats on you and he's lousy in bed. I don't get it. Are you desperate or something? One of those girls that thinks she can't get a guy?"

I sucked in a breath. He had just hit a button without even knowing it. It was totally against my nature not to defend myself. "I can have whoever I want," I said confidently. "Trust me."

He laughed at that. "I know."

"How do you know?" I demanded.

"I can just tell by your voice. You sound like the sort of girl who gets what she wants. I like that."

Slightly mollified, I leaned back in my seat. "You can't tell all that just by someone's voice."

"Sure you can." I could tell he was smiling.

"Fine. Then I still think that you're a creepy phone psycho, despite having heard your voice." I quirked a brow.

But he just laughed. "You're funny Rose."

"Stop calling me that," I snapped.

"Why? It sounds sexy."

I outwardly bristled but couldn't deny the fact that I was a little flattered. "So what. You can't call me that."

"So you never answered my question, why are you still with him?"

I sighed and was just about to hang up again, but my phone beeped signaling I had a new text.

"Hold on. New message," I said. I opened it and saw that it was from my boyfriend.

Rosalie

Please talk to me.

I hate when you ignore me.

T

I scowled and pressed the phone back against my ear. "Hello," I said harshly into the receiver.

"It was from him wasn't it?"

"Of course!" I ranted. "He's not even sorry. He just can't handle being ignored because his ego can't take it."

"I wouldn't answer him if I were you."

I didn't like being told what to do, especially not by a stranger, but I bit my tongue for once in my life and just agreed. "I won't answer his text. But if calls, he is certainly going to hear my mouth."

"Sweet! That's my girl!" his deep voice cheered.

I rolled my eyes before flipping my blonde hair out of my face. "Your girl huh? Are you sure you want to say that? You don't even know what I look like buddy."

Leave it to me to always bring it back to looks. I admit I said this just because I was interested in what he would say.

"You're right, I don't. But from your voice I've got a nice picture in my head."

"Oh yeah?" I said, my tone sharp, trying to conceal my curiosity. "Do tell."

"No way," he chuckled. "I'm keeping that to myself. You might be the complete opposite and I'll just get my head chopped off."

"Smart guy. You obviously know so much about girls." I said sarcastically.

"I know my share." I could tell he was grinning. "But I must say, I never met one as feisty as you, that's for sure."

"We haven't met, Emmett" I reminded him.

I heard him take a breath. "Say my name again. That was hot."

I smirked. "No."

"Please Rose," his deep voice was pouting. "I liked it."

"I will if you describe the picture you've got in your head of me."

"That's not fair," he shouted playfully.

"Take it or leave it."

He sighed, and I imagined he was going through the pros and cons in his head. "Nope sorry, no deal. I'll just wait until you slip again."

"Well I won't," I told him. "So too bad."

"Too bad for you too, because now you still don't know how I'm picturing you." He countered.

I grit my teeth. I didn't like the fact that he had me there.

"I don't care," I lied.

"Yeah you do," he teased, his voice seeming strong but sweet at the same time.

"Do not."

"Do so!"

I smiled a bit at the playful banter before another beep cut me off. Glancing at the screen, I realized it was my boyfriend calling.

"He's calling," I said, narrowing my eyes and just imagining the awful things I would say to him.

There was a pause. "Are you going to answer?"

"Yeah. So I got to go."

He sighed before he spoke. "Okay Rose. Good luck."

"Thank you Emmett."

I took the phone off my ear and put my manicured finger on the TALK button. But just as I was about to press it, I imagined the conversation we would have, and realized I didn't even feel like dealing with him and his crap right now. I wasn't in the mood. I straightened up, deciding to bruise his ego even more by ignoring him. He should learn not to treat Rosalie Hale that way.

Wondering, I put the phone back up to my ear. "Hello?"

"Rose?"

"Hey."

"What happened? I thought you were going to talk to your boyfriend."

"I changed my mind and didn't feel it. Why didn't you hang up?"

"I was going to, but then you said my name." His voice sounded innocent. "It distracted me for a moment, and I was just about to hang up when u said hello."

I bit my lip. "Okay seriously, who cares if I said your name? Why do u like it so much?"

"I like your voice obviously. I wouldn't be on the phone with you if I didn't. Trust me, I'm not the phone type of guy."

"So you don't talk to your girlfriend on the phone?"

He chuckled. "I don't have a girlfriend. But even when I do, not really. Phone conversations bore me. I can't really sit still for too long. I usually like to be moving, doing something."

I wanted to ask like what, but I resisted. Instead I picked up my keys and decided to try my engine again. I couldn't help but sigh in relief when it came to life under my fingers.

"Is that your car starting?"

"Yeah. Sometimes the motor oil hits the left side of the carburetor and it hesitates. It usually just takes a few minutes to separate again." I explained, pulling out of the parking lot.

"Whoa! Look at you," he laughed. "Know a thing or two about cars?"

I bristled, wondering how many times I would have to defend this stereotype. "I know more than a thing or two for your information. I grew up around it. I could take apart my entire engine and have it back together in less than twenty minutes."

I heard him pause then whistle slowly under his breath. "Wow. I have to say, I am impressed Rose. Never met a girl into cars before."

I grinned smugly even though I knew he couldn't see it. "Thank you. But we haven't met."

He ignored that. "But I bet I could beat your time. I'm good with an engine myself," he challenged. I could hear the underlying competitive nature in his tone.

"Doubt it," I said, just to piss him off.

He laughed and I smiled.

"So now I've also got a list together in my head. You've got a sexy voice, a fiery personality, and you have an extensive knowledge of cars," he listed. "What kind of car do u have?"

"BMW. Red, M3."

"What!" he practically yelled into the phone. "2007 model?"

"That's right," I said proudly.

"And there's something wrong with your engine already?"

"I share with my brother. He's an idiot." I scowled, imagining him and Edward sneaking out to drag race with it late at night while Bella and I are busy.

"How old is your brother?" he asked.

"Same as me. We're twins. I'm older though." I added. "How about you?"

"I've got a younger sister named Alice, she's awesome."

"Cool." I reached down to turn on my radio, keeping the music low. "I can't believe that I haven't hung up on you yet." I admitted.

"Ouch," he laughed. "Am I that boring?"

"No. But you're still a creepy phone psycho."

"Oh c'mon Rose, you know I'm not. In fact, I think you like my voice too."

I scoffed. "No I don't."

"Then why are you still talking to me?" he asked.

I was quick to defend myself, my walls coming up. "I don't know. Maybe I'll just hang up right now."

"You wouldn't."

Of their own accord, my fingers tensed, snapping the phone shut. His voice was gone. I placed it down in the center console and concentrated on driving. I kept glancing at it, and hated to admit that I sort of wished I hadn't done that. Knowing I would never be able to swallow my pride and call him back, I decided I would just forget the entire thing completely.

I reached to turn the music up, but my phone rang again.

I grabbed it quickly, opened it and then pressed it against my ear.

"I knew you would actually do it." His deep playful voice made me smile. "And I knew that you wouldn't call me back."

"Oh, you know me so well don't you," I teased, turning onto a side road that I usually took to get home.

"Not yet. I mean, what are the odds, you think you're calling your friend, but fate decided to make you dial my number instead. I think it's cool."

"I think this whole thing is odd," I retorted.

"Oh c'mon, admit it, you're in a much better mood now. I've cheered you up."

I snorted, mad that this voice was sort of right. "Only a little, and it's just because you're happy attitude is amusing."

"What can I say, I'm a happy guy."

I heard his engine start in the background. "What kind of car do you drive?" I asked.

"Wrangler. MSRP. Red also."

My mouth dropped open, but I managed to contain how seriously awed I was. So instead, I smirked and said, "That's one of the biggest cars out. Compensating for something are we?"

He burst into laughter and I smiled again. It felt good to make someone like him laugh.

"No Rose baby, I just like the leg room."

A beep interrupted, and I glanced back at my phone to see that my boyfriend was calling again. I growled and slammed the phone back against my ear.

"He's calling again," I seethed. "He really can't take a hint."

"Want me to kick his ass?"

I smiled cynically and joked. "Yeah. Come be my big strong hero and kick his ass for me, won't you?"

"I would if you really wanted," he said. "You're not going answer him this time?"

"Nope," I replied. "He needs to be taught a lesson."

"I think it's just because you want to talk to me." he said delightfully.

"No it's not," I answered, narrowing my eyes.

"Admit it Rose, you like me."

"I don't even know you!"

"So. I like you and I don't really know you."

"Well that's creepy," I said, pressing the phone into my cheek.

He surprised me by laughing. "Oh Rose. It's just like you to get so defensive."

I was just about to scold him on how dare he say that about someone he didn't even know but he continued. "We do know a little bit about each other," he said. "Like, I know all the things you told me. And I can already tell that you need to stop taking things so seriously all the time."

The hair on my arm stood on end. "Maybe you just need to start taking things seriously! Your care free attitude is annoying!"

And then I heard it. My engine sputtering and then dying out. I cursed loudly and barely managed to pull over on the side of the road before it completely shut off.

"What happened? What's wrong?" he asked.

"OH! This is just great! I am going to kill Jasper!" I shouted, getting out of the car and slamming the door as hard as possible. I took in my surroundings and cursed again.

I wanted to kick my tire, but I was wearing heels and knew I would probably just break my foot. So I stomped around yelling before I remembered I was on the phone.

"Are you all right?" he was asking anxiously, once I put it back up to my ear.

"No I'm not alright." I growled. "My engine just died outside of a godamn elementary school. But I've got to go. I need to call Triple A."

I hung up the phone without waiting for a goodbye and punched in the emergency number. Practically verbally assaulting the unfortunate soul who picked up the phone, I told him my problem and he promised he would be there within the hour.

With nothing to do but wait, I crossed my arms and leaned back against the hood of my car, watching as parents started arriving to pick up their children. Annoyed, I turned my back to the school. I impatiently kept glancing at the time, but it was going by so slowly that my mood just kept steadily declining.

Twenty minutes later, my phone rang. I picked it up and sighed into the receiver.

"They're coming, but not for another forty minutes," I groaned.

He laughed. "Good. I was worried about you. You hung up so quickly."

"Sorry," I mumbled angrily. Too tired from the events of the day to retaliate with much more.

He noticed. "Geez, you must really be in a bad mood. Do I have to start from scratch to cheer you up? He joked.

I just frowned and didn't respond, flopping on the grass and crossing my legs at the ankles.

"How about this?" he said, in a sweet voice. "I'll give in and tell you how I picture you in my head."

I made a noise for him to continue, and then heard him take a deep breath and clear his throat.

"Okay, so where should I start? Probably with the hair. Well, I imagine you've got long blonde hair – real of course – that hits right above the small of your back."

I smiled, reaching down to begin playing with a few blades of grass.

"I imagine that you're tall, shorter than me - but still tall - and with sexy legs that go on for miles."

I giggled and released the grass, now completely interested in what he was saying. Resting on my palms, I waited for him to continue.

"Your arms are toned and your waist is small, but I bet it curves out in exactly all the right places."

His voice was getting deeper, and I became completely absorbed, pressing my phone tightly against my cheek.

"You're only describing my body," I joked a little breathlessly. "What about my face?"

"Turn around so I can see it."

I clutched the phone. My skin tightened and my adrenaline kicked into overdrive. I felt like I couldn't suck in any air because my throat was so tight. Looking out of the corner of my eye, I saw a red jeep that he had described a few lanes down from my car.

Gathering my courage and energy – not to mention my anger - I stood up, ready to swing around and completely lash out. I wished I had my purse so I could grab my mace. Surely he wouldn't try to attack me in front of all these children?

With my phone still against my ear, I narrowed my eyes and turned around.

He was about ten feet behind me, grinning like a crazy person. But the second I turned fully and we locked eyes, his whole body stiffened and he clutched the phone even tighter against his ear.

He stared at me, unabashedly, and I did the same, just as stunned as he was.

He was huge. Probably one of the biggest guys I had ever seen. His muscles were overwhelming, and I couldn't stop staring. He had thick solid arms and a strong broad chest that led down to narrow hips and powerful legs. His whole presence was dominating, commanding attention.

Just like mine.

Ripping my gaze away from his body, I locked eyes with him once again to study his face. The first thing I noticed was his curly hair and his boyish almost childlike features.

I knew the attraction was immediate from both sides. Like a physical pull.

Ten seconds had gone by until he finally broke the silence.

His tone was husky and deep as he spoke into the phone. "Well. I imagine that you have an impossibly perfect face. Sexy full lips and stunning blue eyes."

He began walking towards me, his whole face bright with a smile.

"I imagine you've got a sweet little nose."

I bit my lip, raising both eyebrows and trying not to grin too widely. He stopped right in front of me, the phone still against his ear. "Am I right?" he asked.

I shook my head slowly for a moment before finally taking the phone away from my ear and smirking at him. "How on earth did you find you creepy phone psycho."

He shrugged playfully. "Only one elementary school in town. And only one fiery blonde with a red BMW on the side of the road."

"Calling me and stalking me now?" I said, my tone light and joking. Because in reality all bad thoughts him were completely gone.

"I thought you might want some company while you wait," he said, coming closer and looking down at me. I sucked in a breath, my skin heating at his close contact. No one had ever physically affected me like this before.

I smiled my best smile up at him, making him sigh softly and shake his head, laughing.

He had just opened his mouth to say something when my phone rang.

We both grinned, but once I realized it was my boyfriend my smile vanished.

Emmett looked down at the screen too, but then grabbed my free hand, kissing my palm as he said.

"Don't answer it."
