English Language I thought the past tense of put was put. Yet some people i know use putted. I think that sounds silly when you sound it out, but i want to know the correct use.

I've heard "putted" only when a friend was acting juvenile and using poor grammar on purpose, just like the word "eated." Children do this a lot, as they know adding "ed" to the end of most verbs makes it past tense.

"I already put the book on the table hours ago," is actually the correct way to say that.

Putted is used when talking about golf. As in "I putted the ball". I've never heard it used as the past tense of put before.

put-put-put

Verbs as short as that one usually are the same in all the tenses.

My native language is Spanish, and I used putted a lot of times.
I didn't know was wrong Ö, nice to know it now.
Maybe I am doing wrong with some other verbs, so this rule can be used for all the "short" verbs?

Thanks
