How do i delete messages?

I delete the messages in my inbox becouse i don't like backlog. But the messages I delete go into the trash and it's not deleting them, they just stay there and it's getting bigger. Is they a way to delete the messages compltely or is there a waiting peroid then there deleted, like hotmail?

If you accidentally deleted a message you wanted to keep you can again check the select box and then press " undelete selected messages" and they will be moved back to your inbox.

You can delete the messages by checking them in the Trash folder and then selecting "Delete checked messages". I think that's what it says..
