This section of my Fanpop User's Guide covers links, the lifeblood of Fanpop, and was last substantively edited on 4 June 2013.

So, you've registered on the site and now you want to add some content to your favorite spots. The vast majority of the stuff on fanpop is in the form of links which point to content in other places, whether they are articles, galleries, videos, games, or any other sort of content you can find online.

Check before you add!
Any time that you are about to add content to Fanpop, you should check first to make sure that the content isn't already linked from the site (at least not in the same spot). The web site will tell you if you attempt to submit the exact same URL as already exists in a spot, but your check needs to be more thorough than that. If, for instance, you want to link to a video of guitar legend link performing on stage in New York, you need to do a search such as "link". If you get no matching results, you're probably safe. But if you get a match within the same spot, you need to check it to make sure it isn't the same video from a different source. Not to harp on videos, because the same thing is possible with images. Just to be clear, different videos of the same thing are OK (say, screen recordings of different people fighting the same boss battle in a video game); you just really want to avoid duplicating the exact same video of the same thing (say, linked from YouTube when a link to the same video on Guba is already present), which is really easy to do in video-heavy spots such as the link and link spots. A simple check should suffice, and helps to protect you from the inevitable fan complaints that you have duplicated content that would come up otherwise. Once you've done this check, you're ready to add a link.

Adding a link
There are two specialized buttons to add different kinds of links on the site: you can "add video" or "add link". Regardless of which type of link you wish to add, there are really just two ways to add a link to a spot on fanpop, what I think of as the basic method and the advanced method. The differences are minor; ultimately, you are presented with a form to fill out with information about the link.
First is the link name, where you should put as descriptive a name as you can generate for the content you are adding.

Next is the actual URL for the content. Once you paste or type in that URL, the system will do a simple check to a) make sure that the URL is valid, and b) that the URL doesn't exactly match an existing link in the same spot.

If you're submitting a video link (or if you're using the advanced method, below), you'll next have the option of checking a box (multipart video) to specify that you are linking to a video in multiple parts. Some video sites put restrictions on how long their videos can be, so longer pieces tend to be split into many different videos which, when watched in the correct sequence, nearly recreate the original piece. The multipart video feature allows you to link to all the parts of such a video with one form, rather than creating many links (one for each such part). Observant fanpop users can still find multiple, separate but related video links on the site which were uploaded long before the multipart video feature was implemented.

After the multipart video feature (if present) is the text box for the description of the link: here's where you provide a detailed description of what the link is. While it isn't required, this field is your opportunity to provide helpful information to the other fans, and also to "sell" your link - inclining other people to click on it to see what it is after they've found your link. Everyone is strongly encouraged to provide a detailed description for all of their links.

Finally, after the description comes the keywords field. The keywords are very important - these determine whether your link will be found in a site search or not, as the keywords are given priority in searches over words in the description. So, if you have keywords that match a fan's search terms, your link will appear in the search results before links that have matches to the search terms in the description. You may enter up to ten words or phrases (each one in the list should be separated by a comma) in the keywords field. It's better to have more keywords than fewer, as keywords are so vital for search to work in finding your content.

When you've finished entering information into all of these fields, click the "submit" button to add your link. You will either get an error message describing a problem and what you need to do to solve it, or confirmation that your link has been submitted successfully.

Now, for a brief description of the two methods:

Adding links: the Basic Method
The basic method is to find content that you like on a web site, copy the URL for that content into your computer's clipboard, then go to a separate web browser window or tab to load the desired spot on fanpop (if you didn't have it up already) and submitting the form to add the link. The advantage of this method is that you have a window open on fanpop separate from the window you are using to browse the rest of the web, so that it's easy to do the searches you need to do to avoid duplicating links without disrupting whatever else you're doing online. The disadvantage is that this method is more time-consuming.

Adding links: the Advanced Method
The advanced method is to use the "Add to Fanpop" bookmarklet (link) to jump to fanpop and add a link from your current browser window.
Simply put, once you have the bookmarklet in your browser, any page that you load in your browser window can be added as a link by clicking the toolbar button "Add to Fanpop". The only difference is that you have to select the spot to which you want to add the link from a pull-down menu...and this menu only includes spots of which you are already a fan! This method has the advantage of speed, but the disadvantage that it disrupts the flow of what you were doing in the first place and can be a mess when you try to navigate through your history or use the browser's back button. Also, you have to already be a fan of the particular spot to which you wish to add a link before you may use this feature.

Myself, while I mostly take the time to use the basic method, I have the "Add to Fanpop" bookmarklet on all my browsers and use it with some frequency on my 'higher volume' spots (that is, the spots to which I add content more regularly).

Adding links to your profile
If you wish to edit your profile to list one or more links under such headings as "Favorite TV Show," "Favorite Musician," "Favorite Movie," or "Favorite Book," go to your profile first.
Then click "Edit Profile."
In the resulting page, you'll see many form fields to edit. The section you want is section 2, called "2. Fun Stuff About You." Each of the items (favorite book, TV show, film and musician) is listed in a separate field. Put the link or links you want to add using the text formatting link in the section "Inserting Uniform Resource Locators (URLs)," with a comma separating each one.
Once you've done all the edits, make sure to click the "Submit" button on your edit profile page to save your changes.
That's it!

Okay, first of all I don't write these articles but now I'm fed up! Can anyone please enlighten me because I am confused. What is the problem if I or anybody else posts more links/videos/images than another fan? If I happen to be the one with the most links/videos/images or whatever on Fanpop that is because I like helping out the website. It doesn't make any sense for people to feel jealous or attack me or other people for posting more content than them. That is the most absurd reason to get angry. I am posting content mainly to help out the website but I also know that some people on here...

Plugging away at our laptops
It was just about one year ago that link and I were having our regular lunch meetups downtown in the Financial District of San Francisco. Years ago we shared a cube in Santa Clara at Yahoo! where we first met. Now we were being reunited just a few blocks away from one another and having lunch like old times. We decided to pay a visit to our favorite hole in the wall, the International Food Court on the corner of Bush and Kearny Streets. Most people would never have spotted this joint and even if they had they would pick up their pace and keep on walking. Being the adventurous (and cheap) guys...

Now that more clubs have the ability to create official icon & banner picks, I thought my link on the subject could use a little revision.

Why does it matter, you ask? It's important to remember that fanpop is a community, and should do things as a group. Randomly starting a poll for a new icon, banner or background is rude to other club members. Making icons and banners takes time, and the first options (likely made by the person who started the poll) are given the unfair advantage of being there the longest. Early voters aren't likely to check back in every day to see if new options have...

Ten years ago, Fanpop made its presence on the Internet and people joined the site one way or another. I first found out about Fanpop when I did a Google Image Search on "link". That was back in May 2010, in which I signed up for the site as CHILDISHY; now I use my ReptarZolo account to match with my current DeviantArt account. All those years, Fanpop became cluttered with various types of violative content, including and especially pornography. With only four admins, I don't believe Fanpop will last any longer; this can be prevented if the admins promote some users, preferably those they trust, to become moderators and help clean up the site.
Of all of my peeves, this definitely bugs me the most. It's like if you're gonna pick a fight then at least have the decency to keep your original post. Don't call someone names, wait for them to fight back, and then edit your comment to subtract the insults so you can look like you didn't do anything wrong. It's just the most cowardly and kind of annoying thing to do. At least when I throw an insult I have the balls to leave it up and the respect to acknowledge that it may have not been the nicest thing to say and be up front about my snarkiness. People like that are why I have to screencap...

Ok so I'm sooo sorry If I waited to long to do the story I SWEAR! that i'm going to do it tomorrow i'm so sorry. I have to many problems and i'm very emotional the last couple of days and it's a big problem with my family and i'm very sad but i really will start the story I swear! I cant really tell u about my family issues but I need someone to talk to. But on the other hand if you can be my co-writer i would LOVE that but you have to be good like not basic, you know how when people push the story too fast...

Example for some of you dumbass trifflin ass cunt ass bitches: Yolanda dated this boy named Prince then he bullied her then he liked her afterwards the got married had a baby named Rolanda and Prince got hit by a car trying to see an old friend a cross the street 2 years later Yolanda sold Rolanda n got on crack, died, and lived happily ever after with Prince in heaven.
Of course these user-names may already be taken. If so, then just add a number/nickname on the end. Or you can take some words, re-arrange and improvise:)

[note: when I first made this article "clubs" were called "spots" so just imagine anything that says "spot" actually says "club" ;)]

Well it seems like people are always asking how so here is a step by step guide on how to with images, yay! (there is a little thing in the FAQ but people seem to relate to images better)

Step 1: Make sure you are on the Fanpop main page

Step 2: Search for the spot first so there are no duplicates (if not then go back to the main page)

Step 3: Scroll down till you see this image and click "create new spot"

Step 4: Type in the name of the spot...

ATTENTION: This is just a user opinion's on what could be cool for Fanpop.

1. Customize Profile: Everyone likes to have a nice profile homepage, so my first idea is we have a chance of customize our own profile, with backgrounds, colors, fonts etc...

2. Medal Meter: I think every Fanpopers like to know how much are they far to get a medal on the spot, so my 2nd idea is FP give us the chance to see if we are far or close to get our medal.

3. Profile Viewers: How many and what users did check our profile.

4. Comment Reply Notice: Be notice in you updates when someone reply you in a comment.

5. Possibility to Change User name: Sometimes people don't like their user names...a opportunity to change would be nice ;)

Hope You Enjoy It

No more nudity and disgusting images!!
Please don't post nude or indecent pictures in any spot. There are children on this website. Please don't post anything you wouldn't want your own kids to look at. If an actress is being made fun in a picture please don't post that in their spot. And you should know better than to post naked pictures of them also. There is a place for those images and it's called PerezHilton.com. It's disrecpectful to post inhumane pictures of an actress/actor in their spot. This is fanpop not hatepop. Another issue that has been irking me is duplicate images. I know I have accidently posted duplicates before...

I feel like it is time that I tell you how much you all mean to me and how Fanpop has changed my life. About a year ago I became a stay-at-home mom. Which was really a blessing, however a huge stressor in my life was the fact that I had essentially no adult interaction during the day and no way of really feeling validated. I found Fanpop one day while browsing for Office episodes online. I saw the picks and it looked so fun, that I just had to join! Since then I have spent hours everyday on Fanpop. It is my outlet for all the stresses of being a young mother who is nearly solely responsible...

Okay, first off, that title is a lie.

Based on the way things are going with the new club update feature so far, I thought we could use some guidelines. These are not official, they are merely suggestions on how to decide on a new icon or banner as a team. Only large clubs have the new suggestion options, so there are thousands of people there whose opinions count! (Not that smaller spots aren't valuable, you guys rock just as hard.) The suggested steps for changing a club's look are the same up until Step 3 for both large clubs with the new poll feature, and smaller ones with user-run polls...
