Prologue:
(Skipper’s POV)
Denmark…That name haunts me…
There was only one good thing that came out of that horrible place…
We made it out alive.
…At least most of us…
Manfredi and Johnson…They didn’t make it. It still pains me today that we couldn’t save them. We went through a lot together; Ecuador, the Chinstrap sisters Ashlyn and Saphyra, the exploding elephant foot trap, the talent show from when Rico, Kowalski, them, I and Vee were kids…And then there were the times that Manfredi’s invention saved them again.
Too much, huh?
Well, I’ll explain soon enough.

Chapter One:
Light’s Out…
I’m the only one awake. Kowalski tells me I might have insomnia; I disagree. I just like to stay awake longer than anyone else—to make sure no agents, no Danes, nothing would come and attack us while we’re asleep.
Stirring my coffee with my fish, I stared at the clock. 1: 38 When I suddenly remembered something. I wonder where that box Kowalski had went… I thought, standing up from the cement block I was sitting on.
I entered Kowalski’s lab quietly, having no problem with the door like Private and Vee do since I had been used to heavy things, and walked to a wall. Pressing a certain wall block, a panel flipped out.
I typed the code and a secret door opened; neither Vee, Private or Davy knows about this secret room. (And it’s staying that way, understand?)
In this room is our attic…It’s mostly used for Kowalski’s inventions, Rico’s dynamite collection and his various thing, and my maps, strategies, ect. But…there is this one box. A special box.
“Come on…Where’s the blasted light switch?” I grumbled, fumbling against the wall for it.
Finally finding it, I switched it on; the lights blinded me for a few moments, making me see spots.
“What are you doing up here?”
My eyes widened, making the spots even bigger. Groaning, I rubbed them, getting used to the blinding light little by little. As I did so, I remembered whose voice had said that.
“Bradley?”
“The one and the only,” His voice came again; you could almost hear his smirk when he said that.
I could finally see, but didn’t see the penguin. “What are you doing here?” I asked, walking around the attic cautiously and peering around the inventions.
“Well, I’m just checking out your little team. You should write, ya know.” I was about to tell him I don’t have time but he beat me to it. “And don’t give me that junk of not having enough time, Skips.”
I scowled. Bradley knew better than to call me that. “Fine, Brad.” I retorted. I could mentally see him cringe. Bradley could never stand that name; always yelling at us—Me, Hans, Vee, Rico, Kowalski and Manfredi and Johnson—to call him by his full name.
He sighed. “Fine you got me. …How’s Venus?”
“Vee’s fine.” He always called her Venus; her real name. “You should meet Davy. And where are you?”
“Somewhere.”
I continued to try and find him, but I only found the box I was looking for. “Bradley, if you don’t come out now, I will call you Brad again.”
“You just did, Skips.”
“Okay, I’m getting tired of this.” I turned around in a full circle, still not seeing him. I heard him laugh.
“I know you are. Anyway, who’s Davy?”
“Not telling until you come out,” I frowned, getting fed up with Bradley’s shenanigans. I looked at the box and felt myself almost tear up. I gingerly opened the box, seeing all the things that had highlighted our work. All the years…
I thought I heard footsteps behind me so I turned around to see Bradley. He looked…pale but…also golden at the same time. His blonde feathers hung in his eyes like it did when I last saw him. Like Vee, his feathers were extra long, but his were blonde, not black. Weird, yeah, but that’s Bradley for you.
He smiled lightly. “Looking through our old stuff, huh?”
I looked down at the box. “Yeah…”
“Listen, Manfredi and Johnson…they…They’re somewhere.”
“Yeah, one up there and one down there…” I pointed up and down when I said that, making my point. Bradley shrugged; putting his flippers behind him but still didn’t look me in the eye. I gently picked up one of Manfredi’s old beakers. Kowalski had been his, I guess you could say apprentice, when we were all a team. That’s where he had gotten his love for science.
I put the beaker down on the ground and picked up one of Johnson’s old photograph books. He used to make them, or at least he did when one of the Chinstrap sisters asked him to, Saphyra could make him do anything. I opened the book and saw that the first one was when my team and I had just started out.
Vee had jumped on Johnson’s back, making him give her a ride while he stumbled into Hans as soon as the camera flashed. (Hans had been our old team mate back then; he was a good friend of mine…) Rico was staring at them, completely confused and frightened by them, while Kowalski was yelling at Vee to get off. Manfredi and I were slapping our heads and shaking them. Bradley was laughing at the whole thing.
That day was the start of our team.
