Fantasy Art Game: Picture search!

fanfly posted on Sep 29, 2009 at 02:57PM
Rules:
The first person picks something (ie a black dragon) and the next person has to find a picture of it. Then that person picks something and so on. Obviously the picture has to be something fantasy related but if you want to name something mundane (ie dog) you can and it will be up to the next person to find a fantasy image of it.

Please try to credit the artist and leave a link back to the site where you found the picture.

I'll start!

A black dragon.

I really like that cyclops. Also I like that it's an unexpected way to draw a cyclops since most people draw them as ogre like creatures.
When I read non cutesy fairy my first instinct was to look for something by Brian Froud but I decided to try to find something less familiar. With hindsight maybe I should've just gone with Froud, it would have saved me from looking at a ton of images so sugary I'm pretty sure they could give someone diabetes. My cat walked away in disgust. Well, ok maybe that had more to do with me running out of food for him to attempt to steal, but I like to believe it was because he was sick of all the sweet fairies. I mean, I can really like some sweet and pretty art but wow.

I had a surprisingly hard time with this one, at first I just couldn't seem to find anything I really liked, and you'd be amazed how many images of Hades from the Disney movie Hercules I had to sift through. Who knew that character was so popular? I don't know if maybe I was being a little harsher on artists than usual since I liked that story a lot as a child (though it did make me slightly paranoid about eating at other people's houses for a while when I first heard it).

That pic is really cool and it has a great atmosphere to it. I love when pictures have a story behind them like that too. Especially when it's a story that actually sounds really interesting like this one, because I've seen a few that have a story in the description that seems kind of shoved in to give the picture depth, like "uh, this is...Mortimer, king of the...erm...guys in armour. He's looking for his lost teddy bear. Wait, no something cooler. His lost power staff of awesomeness. If he doesn't find it by nightfall..his, uh, fingers will all fall off." so it's always cool to see something well done with an interesting story behind it :)

Right, this has nothing to do with the picture hunt, this is just something I found when looking for characters with extra eyes, and I'm sharing the nightmares, lol. This is the one I meant before that I said was so weird I had to share. Well, the thing is, I'm not much of a shipper at all and I never read fanfic, so I have no idea which are liked and which are considered weird (and which of the weird ones would fall into some people's 'sick' categories) so I didn't really know what to look for. I don't know if this qualifies. If it doesn't someone else should feel free to post another image more fitting to the request as if I didn't put this :)

I went with the Malfoys, I know they are a cannon ship, but since they are on the villain side I don't see many people into them as a couple, and when I do I very rarely see them portrayed as loving towards eachother, which is what they are shown as here, so since it's them being seen in what appears to be a different light I figured it counts as weird. It's Lucius and Narcissa on their wedding day, I like it because even though they look quite sweet and enthralled with eachother, there is still enough pointy smugness about them that they seem in character, lol. It's by an artist who goes by Makani and here is her site:

Even if this image doesn't count I recommend her site if you are a Harry Potter fan, she has some great pieces (especially in the 'silly' category. There's one of Lucius and Arthur as horses that cracks me up, there are lots of funny ones)
