Sonny received a Proclamation from the Governor of TX in 2010 for his contribution and influence on TX Music.
According to Wikepedia, the Chitlin' Circuit was the collective name given to the string of performance venues throughout the eastern and southern United States that were safe and acceptable for African-American musicians, comedians, and other entertainers to perform during the age of racial segregation in the United States (from at least the late 19th century through the 1960s). The name derives from the soul food item chitterlings (stewed pig intestines) and is also a play on the term "Borscht belt" which referred to a group of venues (primarily in New York's Catskill Mountains) popular with Jewish performers during the 1940s, 50s and 60s.
Sonny Rhodes was influenced by the music he heard, as a child, that came from the performances done at the West End Park. At the beginning of his career, the Chitlin' Circuit was also where Sonny found an outlet for his musical talents.
Sonny Rhodes has put out 6 albums in his career, currently resides in CA and performs mostly in Europe and Canada. It's going to be a treat for his TX fans to have an opportunity to see him perform live.
