So I'm just going to be honest with this. Some of it may sound a little harsh, or maybe not, idk. Just gonna be honest.

First of all, I just want to point out the fact that I've never seen Flyleaf live. I only started getting into them about 2-3 years ago, but was never a true fanatic until about a year ago. I have been following the band ever since then, and the day they announced the release date for New Horizons (the album, not the single, though that was exciting too), I was of course stoked about the album, but even more so, I was stoked about the fact that they'd be touring again soon, and I'd finally get to see them live.

However, that excitement faded on the day they announced Lacey's departure from the band. It broke me. I was just thinking to myself, so much for seeing them live, and hearing Lacey's unique voice and screams in person, and hearing her amazing speeches that she always gives. And the possibility of meeting the whole band. All of those hopes went down the drain.

Hello new friends and fans of Flyleaf,

I just wanted to take a moment and say Hello! The past couple of weeks since the announcement of my taking over as lead vocalist of Flyleaf have been exciting and busy. I started last week with a trip to Texas where the guys practice, and we began rehearsing the fourteen-song set we played this past Saturday. We decided to play a secret show after our friends Signal Rising for 400 awesome fans and family. Ever since Flyleaf invited me to sing with them I have been listening to all three albums and couldn't be more pumped to share the stage with my new friends.

After the anticipation of the whole day a couple weeks ago, I was so anxious to finally get on stage and spend time singing my new favorite songs with you guys, the fans! The ones who make Flyleaf music possible! Instantly I felt the love you all share with the band and their music. You really received me with open arms and I appreciate that. Songs like “All Around Me,” “Fully Alive” and “I’m So Sick” we sang in unison, while some of you even knew some of the brand new songs like “New Horizons” and “Call You Out.” A couple of my personal...

This is not a Flyleaf song; it's strictly Lacey's.

All my life I searched for something
To satisfy the longing in my heart
But everytime I come away emptier than before

And now I finally see the reason
Because I was made to be yours alone
I'm giving you my life, so take me
'Cause I could never live without you now
I'm giving you my life so take me
'Cause I could never live without you now

There were times I cried myself to sleep at night
Only to wake up wishing that I didn't

And now I finally see the reason
Because I was made to be yours alone
I'm giving you my life, so take me
'Cause I could never live without you now
I'm giving you my life so take me
'Cause I could never live without you now

Thank you for never giving up on me!
When I looked to everything else but you
You bled and you died to be with me!
Why would you do something like that

**I DO NOT OWN THIS. ALL RIGHTS GO TO THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS**
by Bob Paulson

Christian teens say they’ll feel comfortable inviting non-Christian friends to hear bands that, like Flyleaf, have had success on mainstream as well as Christian charts. Flyleaf’s videos have played on MTV and VH1. They’ve topped online fan polls and had songs included in games such as Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band.

Before a recent concert in Charlotte, N.C., Decision spoke with lead singer 27-year-old Lacey Mosley about her testimony, as well as the band’s excitement at participating in the Rock the River Tour.

Q: What was your life like before you became a Christian?

A: I was an atheist. My life’s mission was to make people understand how stupid it was to believe in God. I felt like they were limiting their freedom by avoiding all these bad things that were so fun.

I was a bad influence on a lot of people. But those bad things I was encouraging people to do were destroying my life, too: dark music and drugs and hanging out with people who always had something bad to say about their family or were always picking fights....

Lacey Mosley is the vocalist from Flyleaf, a Texas alt-rock band that's gearing up for their second year on Korn's Family Values tour. Kidzworld sat down to chat with the southern rocker about life on the road as a rising rock star.

Sindy: So you're just wrapping up the Justice & Mercy Tour? How are you feeling?
Lacey Mosley: I feel great.

Sindy: What were the highlights of this latest tour?
Lacey Mosley: I guess that we got to play with people we really wanted to play with. Like, there were a couple of bands that got to tour with us that were from our state, and it was really cool to bring them out with us and to watch how well the crowd received them. Also just being on a headlining tour and seeing all the people who come out and really know what you're about. It's great to tour for your own fans, instead of playing for someone else's fans because normally they've maybe heard the single, and really don't know what you're about. This time we had a lot of interaction with our fans that we don't get when we're opening for someone else.

BIO: While many loud rockers reopen old wounds by singing about their broken homes and broken hearts, Flyleaf confront past traumas to heal old scars and prove in the process that hope shines brighter than despair.

Flyleaf's self-titled debut album echoes with songs about abuse, neglect, addiction and dysfunction, and messages about overcoming adversity. And the band's wide array of brooding beats, atmospheric textures and lunging riffs compliment Mosley's emotionally revealing lyrics, which range from breathy and beautiful to scathing and aggressive.

Listen in as we chat with bass player Pat Seals and guitar player Samir Bhattacharya.

Tracy: It seems Non-Christians know about your band as much as Christians. Could you talk about that?

PAT: That’s what we intended from the beginning. We want our music to be for everybody, just like Christ’s message is for everybody. The hurt and pain, and the negative aspects of the subject matter we cover connects with people.

When did you first realize you wanted to sing or be in a band?

My mother did, I'm still deciding actually.
Really?
Well the thing was, my mom was a musician and we were really poor growing up so I never thought this was really possible. So when it all happened it was like...You never know what's going to happen tomorrow so I never thought I would do this for real. I did it for fun, you know? It all happened.

How would you describe your band's sound?

I guess we're kind of like a heavier, darker kind of rock. I don't really know. We try to make the music correspond to whatever the story is in the song. So if it's angry it's going to sound angry, or if it's in love it will sound like it's in love. Most of the time it's pretty urgent, so you're going to feel, hopefully, whatever the song's about.

What's it like being a female in a heavy metal scene? You're going on Family Values where there aren't a lot of women in bands...

I want you to know that I see
All the reasons why you fail
I've seen all your motivations
Ones for good and ones for hell

When you close your eyes to see
The truth that's inside me
May you hold your breath to breathe
Your empty reality

If you had eyes to see
Down inside your stomach
Then you would understand
What I mean
Who I am
Who I am

I was pouring out of passion
To light the step you're on
You choose not to hear or waken
All thats left is you alone

When you close your eyes to see
The truth that's inside me
May you hold your breath to breathe
Your empty reality

If you had eyes to see
Down inside your stomach
Then you would understand
What I mean
Who I am
Who I am

You can't limit me
With all your gross mistakes

If you had eyes to see
Down inside your stomach

The question asked in order to save her life or take it.
They answer 'no,' avoiding death and 'yes' would make it.

'Do you believe in God?' written on the bullet.
Say yes to pull the trigger and my sister, Cassie, pulled it.

They didn't love their lives so much, as to shrink from death.
Inspired in their footsteps, we will march ahead.
Don't be shocked that people die.
Be surprised you're still alive.

All heads are bowed in silent reverence.
The floor is wet with tears of sorrowful rememberance.
The alter's filled with hearts of repentance.
Perfect love kills all fear.
Rejoice in this deliverance!

They didn't love their lives so much, as to shrink from death.
Inspired by their footsteps, we will march ahead.

Thank you for being such a friend to me
Oh I pray a friend for life,
And have I ever told you how much you mean to me?
Oh you're everything to me
Thinking all the time how to tell you what I feel,
Contemplating phrases....I'm gazing at eternity,
I am floating in serenity...

And I am so lost for words
And I am so overwhelmed

Please don't leave just yet
Can you stay a moment please
We can dance together
We can dance forever

Under your stars tonight
We'll live and breathe this dream

So close your eyes, but don't dream too deep
And please pass me some memories
And when I fall you're underneath
1000 broken hearts, carried by 1000 broken wings

I know
Days will come and go
Maybe I'll grow old
But I will die

For now
Is it worth it to be sad
If it's harder to be glad
To be alive

But the trouble I
have caused
I wonder
Where do I belong
Is it here

Believe in dreams
You love so much
Let the passion
of your heart
Make them real
And tell
All the ones you love
Anything and
everything you feel

Laugh about the past
And secretly
Wish we could go back
And save the child

As I look around this room
Seeing worried
eyes that know
It's time we cannot buy
Was this worth the
time to write
Was this worth the
time to write

Believe in dreams
I believe in dreams
I believe in dreams
I believe in you

Believe in dreams
You love so much
Let the passion

Amy says she's all alone,
Says the world doesn't even know
About the pain she hides inside
Says happiness is just a lie
Smell the roses throw them down
Just whisper, don't make a sound
Don't want the world to know the truth
You've been broken and abused...by you

Amy says
"I see you laughing at the rain that hits your face
With your arms stretched open soaking in the love
In a world I find so hard you find so beautiful
There's a hope in you deep inside for me."

The colors of her mind
Bleed into each other
As the morning melts the night
And the stars enchant another
While her eyes are still held shut
She can hear you breathing softly
Your words echo in her mind
And your words are clear and she knows that you are here

Yes
I see her laughing at the rain that hits her face
With her arms stretched open soaking in the love
In a world she found so hard she finds so beautiful

All your twisted thoughts free flow
To everlasting memories
Show soul
Kiss the stars with me
And dread the wait for
Stupid calls returning to us to life
We say to those who are in love
It can't be true 'cause we're too young
I know that's true because so long I was
So in love with you
So I thought

A year goes by
And I can't talk about it

On my knees
Dim lighted room
Thoughts free flow try to consume myself in this
I'm not faithless
Just paranoid of getting lost or that I might lose
Ignorance is bliss cherish it
Pretty neighborhoods you learn to much to hold
Believe it not
And fight the tears
With pretty smiles and lies about the times

A year goes by
And I can't talk about it
The times weren't right
And I couldn't talk about it

Chorus Romance says goodnight
Close your eyes and I'll close mine

You can only move as fast as
Who's in front of you
And if you assume
Just like them
What good will it do
So find out for yourself
So your ignorance
Will stop bleeding through

You can breathe today

So many lies swirling
All around you
You're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath
You're suffocating

Logic forces me to believe in this
And I have learned to see
And I can only say what I've seen and heard
And only you can choose
And every choice you make will effect you
Search your own self

You can breathe today

So many lies swirling
All around you
You're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath
You're suffocating

So many lies swirling

Sometimes I'm a selfish fake.
You're always a true friend.
I don't deserve you cause I'm not there for you.
Please forgive me again...

I want to be there for you...
Someone you can come to...
It runs deeper than my bones...
I want to be there for you.

Swirling shades of blue
slow dancing in your sky,
The sun kisses the earth
and I hush my urge to cry.

I want to be there for you...
Someone you can come to...
It runs deeper than my bones...
I want to be there for you.
Cause I hear the whispered words
in your masterpiece, beautiful...
You speak the unspeakable through...
I love you too.

I want to be there for you
And be someone you can come to
The love runs deeper than my bones
And I want to be there for you

Here I stand
Empty hands
Wishing my wrists were bleeding
To stop the pain from the beatings

There you stood
Holding me
Waiting for me to notice you

But who are you
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Outscreaming these lies
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Saving my life

The warmth of your embrace
Melts my frostbitten spirit
You speak the truth and I hear it
The words are I love you
And I have to believe in you

But who are you
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Outscreaming these lies
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Saving my life

My hands are open
And you are filling them
Hands in the air
In the air, in the air, in the air

And I worship
And I worship
And I worship
And I worship

You are the truth (you are the truth)

My hands are searching for you
My arms are outstretched towards you
I feel you on my fingertips
My tongue dances behind my lips for you

This fire rising through my being
Burning I'm not used to seeing you

I'm alive, I'm alive

I can feel you all around me
Thickening the air I'm breathing
Holding on to what I'm feeling
Savoring this heart that's healing

My hands float up above me
And you whisper you love me
And I begin to fade
Into our secret place

The music makes me sway
The angels singing say we are alone with you
I am alone and they are too with you

I'm alive, I'm alive

I can feel you all around me
Thickening the air I'm breathing
Holding on to what I'm feeling
Savoring this heart that's healing

And so I cry
The light is white
And I see you

I'm alive, I'm alive, I'm alive

I'm sorry. I don't mean to remember.
It's true that I dream less often
I'm not ashamed of that long december.
Your hand's coming down again.

I close my eyes and brace myself
I only noticed your face
No matter what you're gonna build my shell
No matter what you're gonna build my shell.

I'm falling. I'm shedding my skin.
But it's not time I'm told.
I am aware of what you mean and by then,
I'm only ten years old.

I close my eyes and brace myself
I only noticed your face
No matter what you're gonna build my shell
No matter what you're gonna build my shell.

My scars are yours today.
This story ends so good.
I love you and I understand
that you stood where I stood.

I close my eyes and brace myself
I only noticed your face
No matter what you're gonna break my shell
No matter what you're gonna break my shell.
I’m done healing

Sometimes life seems to quiet into paralyzing silence
Like the moonless dark, meant to make me strong.
Familiar breath of my old lies
Changed the color in my eyes
Soon he will perferate the fabric of the peaceful by and by

Sorrow lasts through this night
I'll take this piece of you, and hold for all eternity
For just one second I felt whole... as you flew right through me.

Left alone with only reflections of the memory
To face the ugly girl that's smothering me.
Sitting closer than my pain...
He knew each tear before it came,
And soon he will perforate the fabric of the peaceful by and by

We kiss each other one more time
And sing this lie that's half way mine
The sword is slicing through the questions so I won't be fooled
By his angel light..

I'll take this piece of you and for all eternity
For just one second I felt whole as you flew right though me

Written on the bullet

Do you believe in God
Written on the bullet
And Cassie pulled the trigger

All heads are bowed in silence
To remember her last sentence

Her last words still hanging in the air
In the air

Do you believe in God
Written on the bullet

Do you believe in God
Written on the bullet
And Cassie pulled the trigger

Sick of circling the same road
Sick of bearing the guilt
Open the windows to cool off

All my efforts to clean me.
Leave me putrid and filthy
How can you look at me,
When I can't stand myself?

I'm tired to be honest... I'm nobody.

Perfect in weakness.
I'm only running in just your strength alone.
Perfect in weakness.
I'm only running in just your strength alone.

Telling layla's story spoken
About how all her bones are broken
hammers fall on all the peices
two months in the cover creases

Fully alive, more than most
ready to smile and love life.
Fully alive and she knows
How to believe in futures.

All my complaints shrink to nothing.
I'm ashamed of all my somethings.
She's glad for one day of comfort
Only because she has suffered.

Lacey Mosley — vocals
Sameer Bhattacharya — guitar
Jared Hartmann — guitar

Heavy music and pained lyrics go together like cake and ice cream, and Belton, Texas quintet, Flyleaf, aren't about to break with tradition. But while many loud rockers reopen old wounds by singing about their broken homes and broken hearts, Flyleaf confront past traumas to heal old scars and prove in the process that hope shines brighter than despair.

"I used to be in a really negative band, and that seemed to almost fuel my emptiness because that's what the songs were about," says charismatic singer Lacey Mosley. "That's why I think what we're doing is important because there needs to be something heavy out there that has a positive message so people see that it's possible to get through the worst situations."
