Not anymore he is. He doesn't wear eyeliner, fans. The black rings are genes and character traits from the Shukaku inside, similar to Naruto's whiskers. He used to be super emo. If I recall, Gaara screeched for Sasuke to show him pain, and once Sasuke hurted him, Gaara loved it so much he drooled and laughed for more. Now, of course, he's just a sexy, kick-ass pwnage master. Can't wait to see what he does in the FGSWW (SPOILER: Fourth Great Shinobi World War).

consider his childhood, with that kind of thing lingering over your head, would you grow up to be a...fluffy...type of person...not likely.

gaara is not emo- when he tried to cut himself when he was a kid- he wanted to know what pain felt like and was testing the sand.

I never quite understood the term 'emo'. If it means they cut, doesn't that just pair up with depression? Why make a style out of it?

I guess if we're talking about depressive moods/etc, I guess I can say he is (though he can't cut even if he wanted to). He has a good reason to be depressed. Psycho.. well, he has a demon inside of him and inner termoil, therefore his behavior is excused.

Just because someone is quiet and doesn't smile much does NOT mean they're emo!!! Personally, I don't trust people who smile too much! Gaara used to be a bit depressed, but, as one answer says, he had a DAMN good reason to be!!! Besides, that is the past. Now, he is happy inside!! :)

Gaara is not 'emo'. Sasuke is. He was psycho in Part I but not emo. But honestly, anyone would be with a past like his. Now he's a nice person! :)
