He does not die arbiter's half of the frigate landed and Master cheif's half is floting in the air while he in a chamber like in the very first Halo

If u beat the game on legendary you see an extended version of the final cutsene it shows master chiefs half of the ship drift off to some kind of planet.looks like high charity.bungie actually considered making halo 4 before reach.
