my hamster is Jake he is a Syrian but luckily he doesn't make that much mess. first u put your hammy(hamster) in a ball or you put them in a play pen if u have a nice brother or sister they might watch your hammy 4 u. ok 1st u need 2 take out all there things like food bowl water bowl wheel any toys and a there house thingy. once you have done this you need 2 rummage through your hammy's cage 2 see if they have any things like chews or anything like that. next u need 2 get a bin bag and empty out all the bedding and stuff. after this u need 2 disinfect your hammy's cage and wipe it down then u need 2 put down a new layer of bedding 2 to 3 cm thick. Next clean any ove the other things like whhel or house thingy . then give them new food and water u should change your hammy's food every 2 days and there water every day. after this put every thing in like you wheel toys chews food water and anything else.finally u need 2 put your hammy back in and let them enjoy there new cage
top tip:every week if u can try and put different toys and chews in so your hammy has something different so they don't get bored.

So far after having 15 hamsters over the course of 8 years only two have died from an illness.

~The First Hamster Lucy 1 1/2yrs~
First i noticed she couldn't open her mouth very well and she could barely eat. I made an appointment with Eastwood vet. clinic in Rutland, Vermont. Dr. Bruce looked at her and found she had an abcess in her mouth. He squeezed it and puss came out. Then he gave her two shots, clipped her teeth and sent me home with antabiodicts. She fought for her life for almost two weeks after that. Finally she died.

~The Second Hamster Ruby would've been 2yrs. on December 25,2010(Lucy's baby)~

Last week i took Ruby to the same vet because under her chin she had scabs. I found out she had a skin infection and it had spread to her nose. He gave her one shot and antabiodicts. On the way home she passed.

The lesson being here if you have a hamster younger than 2 years old take them to the vet as soon as something isn't right. If the hamster is around 2 yrs. old it is best to let them die in peace.

Don't forget to brush
Little known Hamster Care facts
When you first bring your little hamster home you are so excited and find that the most difficult thing is to leave there side. You promise to clean there cage every week, put only the best hamster food in their bowel and give them fresh water. However, there are a few other things you need to know to inshore you are giving them a happy healthy full of love.
Hamster’s teeth grow continually; so they do not ware down to nothing. As a result, you need to give them good things to chew or their teeth may grow too long and the poor things will not be able to eat. Some are picky so you will need to try a variety of different chews. Natural is always best but as long as it says not chemically treated any chew is grate; Apple wood is one that has become a favorite for my pet. If you hamster’s teeth do become too long first call a vet but if there are not any that take hamsters you can use a pair of nail clippers to cut the teeth. They do not have nerves in their teeth but the vibration and situation are very scary for the little one.

a year ago (September 2007) i got 2 female dwarf roboski hamsters. As the pet keeper sed, they were. when i got home i played with them, fed them and baught them lots of toys. a few months later, one of my hamsters (Chloe) was acting very lazy. I was quite worried about her. I soon realised that she only came out of bed for food and water. i watched closely at them for quite some time. Silver (the other hamster) was fine.
The cage started to smell. I decided to clean it.
I took Silver out and put her inside her exesise ball. Then i got Chloe and put her into her spare cage to sleep. I took the top of the chained cage of and began to remove the toys. soon i took the bed out and to all of my surprise i found 4 tiny little hamsters. i rubbed my eyes. my jaw was wide open and i had frosen. They were babies.

I realised that Chloe was lazy because she was looking after this lot. :-) and Silver was actuelly a boy! i'll nvr trust a pet keeper again.

(This is my first soapbox i ever wrote) This one is for anyone who has ever lost a pet... On April 3,2006 I got a Black Bear Hamster. I couldnt figure out what to name her. So I thought and thought and came up with the name Taffy. She was so small you could hold her in the palm of a little child's hand. All black and furry with a little white stripe on her tummy. As I brought her home, days passed and she got bigger and bigger. And all of a sudden she started making this noise that I thought were her sneezing but they started getting worse and worse until she barley starting running on her wheel. I got worried. After I cleaned her cage she got a little better but not fully.. a month later she did it again. But this time she couldnt walk and she wasnt really breathing. I couldnt sleep that night. In the morning, I heard my mom say.. She's dead. My heart started to pound and I found it hard to breathe... Than just today, Me and my mom buried her. She died on August 3, 2007. She didnt last that long but I will always love her! R.I.P
