Horror Movies Question

Was Freddy Krueger a child killer AND a pedophile, or was he just a child killer?

When I saw the remake, they made him out to be a malicious child molester, and that was the reason why he was killed by the parents.

And let's just say I wasn't too thrilled of that.

But then other people who I told this to said that Freddy has always been a child molester. It wasn't concrete, but it was hinted throughout the movies, especially in Freddy vs. Jason with the quote, "...and he loves children, especially little girls."

I'm honestly confused.

Was Freddy a pedo, or no?

Wes Craven wanted Freddy to be a child molester, but somewhere that was a BIG problem, so he just made him a child killer. However, it was implied that he was a pedophile. The remake made him a child molester because he originally was supposed to be a child molester. You can thank Wes Craven.

The original Freddy I don't believe was a pedophile. He was a child killer. Somehow, someone somewhere told the guys remaking ANOES that it was a good idea to have him be a molester. I hated that, Freddy just killed children.

Ok, I'm so relieved it's hard to describe it. I agree, I hate it to. It's one of the most awful ideas I'll ever hear. :(

I agree, I was upset, because to me that took all the horror away from Freddy, since he didn't kill a single child.

Wes Craven’s 1984 original gave Freddy, who kills his teenage victims while they dream, an unsettling backstory. Krueger was a child murderer in Craven’s film, having killed 20 children in the neighborhood, only to be released because the search warrant that yielded the evidence was improperly signed. A mob of angry parents cornered Krueger in an abandoned boiler room and set him on fire, and the disfigured Krueger haunts their children’s dreams, visiting upon them the sins of their fathers. In the new version, Krueger is a child molester who keeps Polaroids of his crimes in a shoebox. The arsonist mob attacks Krueger, in lieu of forcing their children to endure a lengthy trial. As horrific as is the thought of a child being killed, it apparently wasn’t quite shocking enough for the Nightmare relaunch. Today, with concern about rampant child sexual abuse stitched into the zeitgeist—To Catch a Predator and Law & Order: SVU come to mind—a molester is the ultimate bogeyman.

The original "Nightmare" - "implies" that there was MORE than just murder on Freddy's mind.

Freddy was absolutely a child molester- however the "silly" remake didn't portray the complete nature of the character. Freddy was not only a serial rapist of children but he also KILLED them. Why this was omitted from the remake I'm not sure. In the original movie, children were often missing and always murdered. Hope that helps. :)

Just a child killer? With what kind of motive? Most child killers are pedophiles. Why would he kill children for the fuck of it?

My only issue is that it's a repeating theme that the children Freddy haunts is his revenge for the sins of the parents. But pedophile or just child killer, Krueger got what was coming to him, the parents took the law in their own hands because he was never convicted due to bad warrants and his victims never got justice. Where did the parents do wrong? I just find it odd how the parents killing him was more shunned upon then the murders he committed. How does that weigh out?

My understanding in the first Nightmare on Elm Street film is that he was a child killer and had been a custodian who worked in the boiler room at the school or near children but not a pedophile as later portrayed in the remake with Jackie Earl Haley. I always understood that the boiler room was Freddy's "haunt" where he worked alone and that is why so many of the kids dream they are there. I always understood him to be a demon spirit who is exacting revenge on the parents by taking their kids.

Absolutely. He was always intended to be a child molester, but when they were filming the first movie, a court case involving a child molester forced them to change him to just a killer. They didn't want people assuming Freddy was based on the court case in question.

Um no Wes Craven did not want nor did he ever intend Freddy Kruegar to be a child molester and many who knew him stated he was offended cause they ruined the fan base for Freddy cause as he put it (No one can be a Freddy Fan if hes a child Molester cause everyone hates those kinds of people) When Freddy Vs Jason came around one of the writers wanted to make him a child molester in that movie also and that he molested and tortured Jason as a camp counselor but the idea was tossed cause again it would have ruined Freddys fan base and turned Jason into more of a victim than an equal killer to Freddy...the movie bombed and failed box office views cause people felt the character of Freddy had been betrayed....Some how its ok to cheer for a child killer but not a child molester lmao ahh Humans
