As she arrived at the hospital she was on the phone with Chase. Chase check his vicodin levels to see how high they are and I am two minutes out. Chase, "how is he doing?"
He is in critical condition. We put him on a respirator. Bp is 76/50, HR is 60.
Everything was in slow motion. They were running the Brain MRI and CT to see if they could figure out why House was bleeding from his ear and if it was originating in the brain.
Wilson met her at the door. He was still at the hospital when Cuddy called him.
What happened? "What was he doing with you?"
"He had come over to talk. We talked and, and I asked him to stay."
We...... We made love. He grabbed his head and fell to the floor afterwards.
He said he hadn't had any vicodin or alcohol.
"I have to see him."
Thirteen, Chase and Foreman were moving towards her with the x-rays. Foreman had the results of the MRI and they put it up and looked at it.
Cuddy walked to it and looked on in horror as she counted the number of bleeds you could see. There were 4 sites that had bleeds they could spot. And they could see the fracture in his skull.
Foreman also showed her that the meds he had been taking were anti-convulsant meds. His vicodin levels were normal. The other prescription originated back to October of 2010. These meds typically treat someone with head trauma.
"Wilson put his arm around her as Foreman continued."
"We need to open his skull to try to cauterize the bleeds and see how much damage he has suffered." This looks as if it has been going on a long time. I won't know for sure until we get inside.
"You didn't notice anything Dr. Cuddy?"
Cuddy, "just shaking her head," replied that she wasn't sure. His behavior was strange but I thought it was us. I thought he was reacting out of fear and avoidance. All this time, he has been bleeding and I thought....... Oh.....
"I need you to approve the surgery Dr. Cuddy", Foreman was coaxing her to give them a green light.
She looked at Wilson, who replied by saying, "Lisa we have to let them do their job."
Ok. I wanna see him. I'll stay with him while they prep him.
She walked into the room and as she got close to him she took his hand. She gently stroked his fingers. These hands that had held her, and brought her so much pleasure, now where lifeless.
House I am here. She began to tell him what they had planned although she wasn't sure he could hear her. We are going to do surgery. You have 4 bleeds and we need to cauterize them and see how much damage and seperation in your skull there is.
House you were taking meds for convulsions and seizures. Why didn't you tell me?
The prescription was dated in October of last year. You must have suffered some damage in the building colaspe that I sent you back into. I made you go back in.
"So much wasted time." House, "I didn't know." I thought you were keeping me at a distance.
He put his hand on her head and she quickly raised her head to see his eyes open. She touched his face and she ran her thumb acoss his lips.
"He had the tube inserted into his throat to breathe for him." His eyes looking at her, wanting to help her make sense of this.
She bent down to kiss him.
Your team is scrubbing in and Wilson and I will be in the observation room.
"Don't leave me", House.
He heard the words as his eyes closed shut. She put her hands on both sides of his face and kissed him one more time.
They came in to finish the prep. She stood there as she watched him lying lifeless. She couldn't imagine her life without him in it in some way. He had been in her thoughts and dreams for twenty years. Life without him just wasn't an option.
She turned to look at him one last time as she headed to the observation room.
