“I will be fine mother,” said a 20 year old girl named Raven. “I know, I just wish you did not want to move out.” Said her mother. Raven was now moving out to go on the open road, to be a lone soul. “I know you do mother,” she said. And with those words, she sets off on the open road. She wanders a trail in the forest. She is wearing a purple Victorian dress with a purple cloak; she stops to get something to eat. She takes out a piece of bread from her black bag. Then, suddenly, she hears something. She looks around in a panic. “Who is there?” she asks. She hears more rustling. Raven slowly stands up and turns around. She sees red eyes and sharp teeth in the shadows. She backs up. Then, the creature lunges toward her. She screams and tries to run away, but the creature grabs her. She screams again and tries to get free. Then, she hears a tare and feels pain. The creature had scratched her and tore her dress in the process. As her eyes widen, she feels a pain in her neck. She screams and tries to wriggle away but cant. The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that that lit up her entire being.

She said, "Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?" I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.

"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked.

"No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and share a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always...

It's the Journey That's Important
by John McLeod

Life, sometimes so wearying
Is worth its weight in gold
The experience of traveling
Lends a wisdom that is old
Beyond our 'living memory'
A softly spoken prayer:
"It's the journey that's important,
Not the getting there!"

Ins and outs and ups and downs
Life's road meanders aimlessly?
Or so it seems, but somehow
Leads us where we need to be,
And being simply human
We oft question and compare...
"Is the journey so important
Or the getting there?"

And thus it's always been
That question pondered down the ages
By simple men with simple ways
To wise and ancient sages...
How sweet then, quietly knowing
Reaching destination fair:
"It's the journey that's important,
Not the getting there!"
