I am still missing several Angel graphic novel one-shots (Blood and Trenches, for example) and some important Season 6 volumes (like Immortality for Dummies), and do not own any of the Buffy Omnibuses, but I thought I had a pretty nice collection, so I wanted to share.
Forgot - also have Dr Horrible and OMWF soundtracks. Recent additions include The Shepherd's Tale and The Guild Graphic Novels. Not sure if The Guild counts, but it does to me.
Very sweet. I don't have any of the graphic novels! I'd like to get Buffy Season 8. Is it good? I was reading it at my library but they don't have them all.
I should do a Whedon shrine too. I've just recently discovered that people actually seem to want to see pictures of my junk.
.....um, that didn't sound right at all.
Buffy Season 8 is good until "Twilight." Then it made me go "Huh?" and wrinkle my nose, mostly due to the Twilight reveal, which was leaked before it was published and for the longest time I was hoping was some sort of red herring, but it wasn't.
Angel: After the Fall is also good, but only until volume four. Volume six is good, because it's just a collection of stand-alones, and has a great Drusilla story, as well as a hilarious Spike/Angel story wherein they visit a Comicon sort of convention.
Buffy is more like the series, Angel, I find, is less so. When I read Buffy, I read it like I would watch it. When I read Angel, it's like a whole other world. Still brilliant, and the characters are still, well, in character and all, but I think it's the fact that AtF takes place in a post-Apocalyptic Los Angeles, whereas Buffy's world remains more or less, you know, world-like.
I forgot, too, I also recently acquired the Dr. Horrible graphic novel, which is awesome beyond words. Packed full of origin stories (including how Penny became so self-sacrificing, how Moist got all wet, and a piece featuring the epic battle between the ELE and Johnny Snow), that thing reads like a legitimate superhero comic.
The Spike Stand-Alones (Asylum, Shadow Puppets) are fantastic, mostly because they introduce the character Beta George who is probably my favorite new character in either the Buffy or Angel comics. In fact, Asylum (which is non-canon) is where Beta George was introduced, and Joss loved the character so much he asked Brian Lynch (writer) if they could use Beta George in AtF, which is how he made it into canon (yay!) I also love the Spike comics because Shadow Puppets features Puppet!Spike and Puppet!Lorne, and Lorne (IMO) deserved his own spin-off in the first place but Smile Time is the closest we get. (Note: Spike AtF is a branch of the Angel AtF storyline. It falls between volumes one and two, and would be included in the "good" AtF arc, which is 1-4).
Wow. That was a lot. Hope it helped you decide on your comic purchases/reads.
