"Okay, hold it steady, Riley," Larry said the next day at the garden. He pulled on a pair of clear plastic goggles. Hey, his eyes aren't solid brown, Riley thought, tightening her grip on the wooden slat. There's a little green around the middle. How come I never noticed that before? "Uh, Riley?" Larry said. She blinked. "Huh?"
Larry pointed to the slat. "Your hands are in the way." "Oh!" Riley quickly moved her hands away from the pencil line. Was I actually checking Larry out? she wondered. She was. And she had to admit, for some weird reason he looked cute today! "Ready?" Larry asked. Riley tightened her grip. "Go!"
Larry thumbed the switch on the power saw and zipped it through the wood. "That's one!" he shouted over the saw's loud whine. Riley put the cut slat aside and picked up the second one. She set it across the sawhorses. Larry's face broke into a huge smile. [Riley: Okay, I knew this couldn't last forever. Here it comes. Watch this. He's going to ask me out again.]
"Sierra! Over here!" Larry cried. Riley turned to see Sierra crossing the garden toward them. "I brought your bracelet with me," Larry said when she reached them. He patted his pocket.
