I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Kojima Wants Open-World Metal Gear Solid 1 Remake for PS4 - GameSpot
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Kojima Wants Open-World Metal Gear Solid 1 Remake for PS4
But don't get too excited, as Hideo Kojima explains that he doesn't have time to work on such a project right now.
Hideo Kojima hopes that one day he\'ll see his 1998 action game Metal Gear Solid remade as an open-world title for PlayStation 4. However, he also says that he doesn\'t think it\'s going to happen anytime soon, if it ever does.
During a media session at Taiwan\'s Taipei Game Show this weekend attended by Famitsu, Kojima was asked what he thinks about bringing earlier Metal Gear games to the PS4. He responded, according to a DualShockers translation, by saying he\'s excited by the idea, but can\'t work on any such projects himself, as he\'s currently busy with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Silent Hills.
Despite that, Kojima went on to say that he would like to someday play in an open-world version of Shadow Moses, one of the locations from the original game. Gamers, too, would like to see a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid for new consoles, Kojima said, though he cautioned that it\'s not in the works now and may not ever be.
Kojima went on to point out that remaking the original Metal Gear Solid for current-generation machines would also require the implementation of new tools and an engine, as well as a team to make the game, of course. No developer has yet to come forward, the industry veteran said.
This isn\'t the first time Kojima has talked about the possibility of remaking the first Metal Gear Solid. Back in August 2014, Kojima said that he\'d like to revisit the 1998 game, even though he\'s "not too fond of remakes."
"If it was going to be a remake, I wouldn\'t want to make a standard remake, but something similar to what
is doing: Bringing the best of the past to the present and doing something new," Kojima said at the time.
Before that, in June 2013, it was reported that a Metal Gear Solid 1 remake was actually in the works. However, Kojima later clarified that this was a translation error, and that the game was not actually in development, even though he would like to see the game remade someday using the Fox Engine.
The original Metal Gear Solid was released for the PlayStation and was ported later to Windows in 2000. It is considered to be one of gaming\'s definitive titles.
The next Metal Gear Solid game is this year\'s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the follow-up to 2014\'s Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

Metal Gear Solid already has a remake. Why not remake Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake instead? Metal Gear Solid already has a remake. Unless Metal Gear and Metal gear 2 are already going to be missions played in the later part of Phantom Pain...
We all want something don\'t we? Just sh1t in one hand and want in the other, then look and see which one fills up your hand faster.
Doesn\'t matter what he wants because there\'s a real go chance he\'s never going to work on another MGS game again. Kojima, go make some new IPs.
"During in an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, Kojima was asked if PS4 owners would ever be able to play earlier titles in the series, and responded that he was \'too busy\' to man such a project.
Elaborating further, Kojima revealed that he would love to play in an entirely open-world re-imagining of Shadow Moses, but doesn\'t have the man power to do it himself."
That sounds quite different from what I read here. "Journalism" at its finest, truly.
"... but doesn\'t have the man power to do it himself." Of course not, that\'s why he milk Konami resources until they fired him, now he\'s begging for support to continue making MGS games for ever and ever.
@KiriharaZro @theprismhead Konami owns the rights to MG and MGS. He may have created the games but they won the rights. When Kojima left, that was it for MGS. Any future MGS games will need to have a strong leader like Kojima to create the games or the series is done. I would like more gameplay and less CGI scenes.
Kojima wants to make/remake MGS games in every possible way. What about a NEW IP? oh no! he just can make MGS games, nothing more, maybe in the future we\'ll see MGS fighting edition or MGS puzzle edition or MGS erotic edition.
What a waste of time, maybe thats why he was fired from Konami, a lot of economic and human resourses making the same damn game for the last 20 years.
With Kojima and Konami parting ways this will more than likely never happen. Unless Konami leaves game production and/or sells the Metal Gear rights to another publisher and then Kojima works with the new publisher.
So, basically he wants a different game, not a remake. Which is cool with me--MGS 1 has a fantastic premise and setting.
it cant happen, theres nothing except the nuclear site in shadow moses.
unless by open world he meant no loading screens bewteen sections. that doesnt make it open world.
@dr_zomberg By Open World, he means Shadow Moses done like Ground Zeroes-- not quite GTA open world, but closer than it\'s ever been, and given the layout of Shadow Moses, I could see potential for massively larger open world levels. You\'re going to have security buildings, facilities type buildings, etc. that could be off the main base. To do it well would mean adding a lot of "wild space" between things like the boat dock and the helipad. It could be done, and done well.. an open world Re-boot of MGS, but with the same basic story and characters we know and love. I\'d kill to have that project. MGS before it jumped the shark.
If this were to happen, nothing would ever top it for me.
All I was glad to see in this article was that Kojima is working on Silent Hill.
I wish they\'ll make a MGS 4 remaster for PS4/X1/PC someday
@elwynn87 Ain\'t gonna come to pc, that\'s for sure.
@persenaama78 @elwynn87 Which is likely for the best. The Japanese console developers are not really any good at bringing their stuff to PC - it\'s always a half-baked port that only mostly works. Best to leave the titles on platforms the devs can handle.
@DeviantCode @persenaama78 @elwynn87 Let\'s not pretend any of you two know what you are talking about.
Probably already in the works by modders on the PC version of Ground Zeros.
HA! I thought 5 was gonna be his last, no wait that was 4.... wait wasnt it after 3.....
They need to just go the way of the Master Chief and redux all of them. Speaking of 3, snakeEater was one of the best.
Ahh.. this 1998 game is still get my interest until this moment, can\'t tell how much i liked
Metal Gear Solid 1 it is the greatest game of the series,
the better (story), (soundtracks) and (characters), every single detail was simply perfect.
please kojima make this masterpiece rise again :.:
@SSEEXX As much as I love the masterpiece that is the first one, I think Snake Eater was the best in the series. The 007-like opening, the gameplay, the soundtrack, the epicness!!
Make this dream come true Metal Gear Solid 1 Remake (imho i dont think if open world or exact remake would be an issue for sales)
Aaaand any mention of The Twin Snakes (Gamecube) is conveniently left out.
It was prettymuch MGS1 with the MGS2 mechanics (hanging from railings, holding up guards, AP Sensor, etc.) added to the game and MGS2-quality graphics as well. They even got everyone except Mei Ling\'s original VA back to voice the remake. It\'s not cool to see TTS dissed because of the action sequences changed or added from the original. MGS3 was also released on the PS2 around the same time so...yeah.
And theres only been 2 proper ZOE games *smashing my goddamned f*cking head through a 12 foot steel wall*
@Mewtwo64 Those action sequences did not in any way reflect the spirit of the game and were basically spurred on by the guy doing the remake being a fan of The Matrix. The voice acting was worse, for some reason everyone sounded really edgy for no apparent reason, and especially Snake\'s character was thrown out the window in favor of these flashier cutscenes and action movie-esque feel. I realize a lot of it had to be redone, especially the audio, but the changes made from the original were just silly and unnecessary. In the end it\'s a glorified fanfiction with nicer graphics that is better off forgotten.
Regardless, TTS minus the crap additions and newer gameplay mechanics is still basically MGS1 so there is no point in bringing it up. Not to mention Kojima didn\'t even work on TTS.
Remake Metal Gear 1 and Metal gear 2: Solid Snake
@westsiderz28 like farcry or grand theft auto, filled with secondary missions, extras, etc, that you can complete anytime for gear, items, or spoilers :P
but seriously Kojima talking about planet of the apes just goes to show he is a genius, its the perfect example of a good franchise that didn\'t screw up its reboots and "prologue chapters", you hardly find any franchise that does that, specially so well (its planet of the apes sure but its still that well directed).
Kojima can take my foot up his @$$. Take that Fox Engine and shove it where the sun don\'t shine.
Why open world? Rarely are open world games any good. They may offer more freedom but result in poor level design.
After P.T. I\'d rather see more games like that, than generic sandbox sims.
@RSM-HQ Plenty of open world (or non-linear) games are very good and have a lot of tightly designed content.
People just need to stop thinking Bethesda or Ubisoft are the reference model for that kind of design.
@TucoBenedicto @RSM-HQ Actually I thought of Saints Row and Dragons Age 3, but thanks for stating other games in the sandbox genre that show shallow level design.
Dragons Dogma was best in BitterBlack Isle, and many follow these same thoughts. The openworld part in Grand Soran is generic waste of coding. Only ever briefly considered a way the environment effects the battles. In BB the better you know the map, the greater advantage you have. And is essential. That\'s depth fellow gamer_
Linear maps let developers consider how strategy works in that area for the games mechanics on a level openworld never reaches. Most sandbox games from my knowledge are considered for casual gamers. And I doubt MGSV will change this if the demo was anything to go from.
You think you have more options in large maps, but the truth is you rarely have half what a well developed linear game offers.
Comparing Dark Souls to Skyrim is a good example.
Enough ranting from me, I\'ve shared my fill here :)
@RSM-HQ three words, Grand Theft Auto.
Ever since the GTA franchise started and more so after it grew. Most directors and development teams look at that success, popularity, and originality and want to reproduce it. So far only a few have gotten it right while the rest become a bit mediocre compared to normal games.
And yet GTA keeps getting it right time after time, its hilarious.
@Klyern @RSM-HQ The fact you think GTA keeps on getting it right is hilarious. GTA is absolutely horrendous. In fact everything you wrote about GTA is absolutely hilarious. When you actually come up with a good game, then you can post here. Until then you\'ll only be seen as a joke.
@BIGFELLAH26 @Klyern @RSM-HQ You bash on the person for enjoying a well made game, claim the they make rookie mistakes and think their comment would be viewed as a joke? If you disagree, present a different option that supports your flaccid argument. I enjoy GTA, it\'s fun as an open world game however, I\'m more inclined to the Red Dead franchise. Now if they could pull off Metal Gear Solid with that sort of gameplay then I\'d be all for it.
Answer: "Dunno, maybe I\'ll remake it, someday" [also implying other platforms in the process]
Headline: "Kojima really wants to remake his game [specifically] for PS4"
@TucoBenedicto The question specifically stated PS4 and his answer hinted that he would like to but not right now. Where are the words twisted?
@TommyT456 @TucoBenedicto You just implicitly pointed where\'s the twisting.
The title implies that he spontaneously claimed the desire to target a remake specifically on the PS4.
In reality, what happened is that the interviewer specifically asked to him if he would ever consider a remake for PS4 and his answer was more or less:
"Sure, uh, I would eventually consider the idea... to remake the game for modern platforms in general. But I don\'t think I have time now".
1) he doesn\'t really "want to", he\'s just open to the idea.
2) he\'s not even targeting the PS4 specifically; that was just a bias in the interviewer\'s question.
@TucoBenedicto They must be taking a cue from IGN.
@TucoBenedicto Go watch the Bloodborne presentation that has a female translator on it. The japanese developer talks about traps and describes mobs, boss rooms, map generation and shortcuts, meanwhile the girl makes up crap and praises the game to keep up with the conversation because she can\'t hear what he is saying, Its stupid how people hire translators that can\'t keep up with native conversations, I\'m sure she can only keep up with voice recorded textbook exercises.
yaya, make a remake of MGS1, add "open world" and you\'ll ruin my childhood game.
WOW ... The Best news i\'ve ever heard, thanks kojima ☻
