I'm back! As you can see, I've changed my writing style a bit, and am soon going to change my logo. Hope you enjoy!! ;D ✰
Steve had set off on pig earlier from the sandstone village he'd encountered the day before, and he was looking for new land. He had been out for five hours already, and the pig was getting tired.
"Oink."
"It's alright," Steve reassured the pig. But he was also starting to get tired. It was nothing but sand ahead that he could see. The distinct chatter from the village was long gone. Steve sighed.
About an hour later, a tree came into his view in the distance. Steve strained his eyes to see if there were more. But the pig was moving fast enough now that soon, it all appeared.
Trees.
Lots of tall, green trees.
The pig sped up.
Grass. Vines. It was all becoming clear.
"A rainforest!" Steve yelled. He laughed. "We did it!! Come on!"
The pig squealed for joy and ran as fast as it could. Speeding hooves padded into the sand. The air breezed by Steve's face. Finally, the pig stepped onto the green grass. It marked the moment they had crossed into the new biome.
And it was beautiful.
Steve climbed off the pig. He wandered into the rainforest, weaving in and out of the gigantic trees. He mined a few blocks of wood. He waded into a river and splashed around. Finally, curiosity stopped him from marveling at the huge trees. He looked ahead. The winding river lead all the way past his vision. So, with the pig following him, Steve began wandering along the edge of the river.
It felt nice to have a real body of water surrounding him. For the past few days he'd had no water. Then, when he came across the village, there was well water. But it wasn't the same as a real river.
Steve kept walking. He didn't stop to look at the rainforest, but he did take notice of some of the plants as he walked. Suddenly, Steve stopped.
The continuous line of trees had stopped. Sand had merged off the grass, forming an edge that doubled as a line between the rainforest...
and the ocean.
The sparkling blue stretched as far as the eye could see. Strangely enough, the ocean also glowed with a teal hue. Steve didn't pay much mind, though, and excitedly ran to the edge of the ground. He looked at the pig, then jumped into the ocean.
Suddenly, a tingling sensation filled his body. Was the strange color some kind of chemical? Steve heard a sizzling noise and looked down to see fizzing bubbles rising from his feet.
"Aah!!!" Steve screamed as he jumped from the water. He looked down at his legs again. The bubbles were quickly settling, but several Ender Pearls stuck to his shins, ankles, and feet.
"What the...?"
This was the weirdest thing Steve had ever seen in his life. Still, he knew this had to lead to something. He picked off the pearls, stuck them in his inventory, and jumped back in, trying to ignore the fizzing around his body. The water smelled like vinegar, and it was only intensifying Steve's discomfort.
He barely stuck his face underwater when his body started burning.
Steve threw his head above the water and screamed. He paddled as quickly as he could to get back on land as the bubbles began to settle and shiny pearls appeared on his face.
Steve was freaking out. He finally squirmed his way onto the sand and stood up. The bubbles sizzled away, and Ender Pearls stuck to him.
Steve picked the pearls off of his face, then his neck, arms, chest, stomach, waist, legs, and feet. Suddenly, a large shadow in the shape of a body appeared somewhere in the water.
"Stop it. You're disturbing the souls of the Endermen."
Steve looked at the water, wide eyed. The voice had come from somewhere invisible. It almost sounded unreal and hollow.
Steve looked down at the pile of Ender Pearls he had dropped out of surprise. He picked one up and reached for his inventory when a loud noise that sounded like a cross between a voice and thunder made Steve jump.
"Stop it!!"
The voice sounded angrier now, thunderous, louder, harsher.
Steve dropped the pearl. "Who are you?" he called.
Suddenly, a shadowy figure rose from the water. It was slightly larger than Steve, except it was pure black. It waded through the water, climbed onto the sand, onto the grass until it was right in front of Steve...
and smacked the Ender Pearls into the water.
"Hey!" Steve jumped up. "What are you doing?"
The mysterious shadow threw a stray pearl into the sea. It then turned around, and looked at Steve. Its eyes suddenly seemed to gleam a bright white.
Steve met the figure's eyes and asked a second time. "Who are you, really?"
"I am a god. The god of all Endermen. A protector of Ender Pearls. A savior to the soul of every Enderman, ever. You are not welcome here."
Steve didn't have the foggiest idea how, as a backpacker, he came across such strange things. "Wait. What do you mean, 'the god of all Endermen?' What's with this sea? Can you explain all of this?"
The figure let out a chuckle. "So you want to learn more," it mused aloud in its hollow voice. "I suppose maybe...maybe I could tell you about my sea...the sea of Enderlife."
He looked at Steve again...those beady white Enderman eyes against that pure black frame. Suddenly, his eyes glowed teal. The exact same color as the pearls. Then, his skin changed into dark Enderman skin. Then his clothes appeared. The ruler wore a shimmering, dark teal robe dripping with water.
Steve pointed at the sea. "But how do you just rise from the sea? Aren't Endermen weak against water? And why was I covered in pearls? Seriously, why did you choose this sea to even-"
A loud, thunderous noise stopped Steve's rambling short.
"One question at a time," the god huffed. "I will answer them all, if you will let me keep up."
Steve glanced at the sky. "It's getting dark."
The god looked at the sky. "If you want to wait until tomorrow..."
Steve yawned. "Err...I don't..."
"Goodnight." Before Steve could get another word out, the figure flashed out of sight. The shadow in the water reappeared, then quickly faded.
Steve groaned. "You realize I'm gonna have to sleep out here!!"
A bed appeared out of nowhere next to Steve.
"Sleep."
Steve thought about bringing up the monsters, but decided against taking the argument any further. He didn't usually sleep in a bed, but he was too tired at this point to care. He stretched out on the bed. His pig flopped down in the sand. Steve sighed. He knew it was too late.
He would have to find everything out tomorrow.
*************************************************
Steve awoke to silence and loneliness; the god was no where in sight. Was he still waiting? Steve woke up his pig and walked to the edge of the sand. "Hello?"
Silence.
"I'm ready to hear your story!!" Steve called.
Nothing.
Steve groaned. Growing impatient, he stuck his foot into the water. A single Ender Pearl stuck to his ankle as he pulled it out of the water.
Steve picked it off and threw the pearl into the water as hard as he could. A loud splash reverberated into the sea. What sounded like the cry of an Enderman followed.
Suddenly, as Steve had hoped, the shadow appeared in the water. A rumbling, hollow growl emitted from somewhere in the sea.
However, Steve quickly began to fill with dread. A bad vibe fogged Steve's mind with worry as he realized the anger he might have caused the Enderman god.
Surely enough, the upset god rose from the sea and walked up to Steve, a slight anger radiating in his eyes.
"You have disturbed the Endermen," the god growled. Even in his low voice, there was no hiding his annoyance with Steve.
"Sorry," Steve muttered. "I just...wanted to hear about the sea."
"You are disrespectful to the Endermen. What have they ever done to you that you don't care about their well-being in this world?"
Steve swallowed hard. He didn't know how to answer. Naturally, part of him wanted to yell out how Endermen mistreat humans, but another part of him knew it would only anger the god further.
Steve shrugged. It was a lousy response, but...
"So why do you stay here and do such careless things?" the god grumbled. "Before I tell you anything about my sea, I request that you tell me who you are."
Steve, no longer worried about angering the god, sat down, his back leaned against a jungle tree.
"Well, my name is Steve...I'm 23, a backpacker..."
The Ender-god looked interested in the story. Steve pulled a carrot out of his backpack and took a bite. He backed up slightly against the tree, ready to go into a long story of his adventures.
"I left home after my seventeenth birthday...I don't remember exactly when...maybe a week or so after..." Steve continued between bites of his food. "But my parents had given me instructions, food, water, a sword, a pickaxe, a compass, a traveling journal, and a large backpack to carry everything..."
"So I set off, along with my pet dog. I fought, I struggled, I climbed mountains, swam seas, mined caves, gone through countless near-death situations. I've built many shelters only put to use for one or two days, I've gotten just about any material you can find, I've been through all kinds of weather, I've seen villages everywhere..."
Out of excitement, Steve unconsciously began to climb the tree he was leaning against.
"Which is how I got here. I made it through an endless desert. I found a village after almost dying, thanks to the help of some villagers. They gave me food and water, they healed me after an attack-" Steve looked at his leather bandage. -"and let me stay the night. Then, they sent me off with a pig. It took hours after leaving the village, but eventually, we found this rainforest." Steve had almost made it to the top of the tree now, which wasn't too tall, and was trying to pick an apple off of the tree.
"So I followed this river, and-" Steve threw his hands up suddenly. "-boom! Here I am."
"I see," the god said, his face a mix of intrigue and suspicion. "But what happened to your dog?"
Steve's smile came crashing down. That question had struck a nerve with him. He sunk down into the leaves of the tree as his eyes began to well up.
"Well...I was on the edge of a mountain by a waterfall...I was surrounded by angry wolves. I was trying to fight them...my dog went to defend me...and...and..."
Steve lifted up his face to reveal wet eyes and a couple tears on his cheeks. He felt humiliated to be crying, but since he had a reason to...
"Fido!!" Steve cried. The pig hid its head underneath its front legs and whined.
The god sighed. He stretched to the size of a real Enderman and walked up to the tree. He looked down at Steve in an attempt to show his compassion. Steve looked up. His jaw dropped slightly and his eyes grew wide.
"What the-?"
"This is my real form," the god said happily, as though he wasn't a ten-foot-tall creature born from a different dimension. "I stay inside...a shell. A skin the size of a human, so I can fit in where it is necessary."
"Wow," Steve uttered, gawking at the monstrous dark frame.
He was just about to slide through the leaves to the ground before he saw a creeper walking towards the two of them. Steve jumped and backed away quickly. The god smacked the creeper away. The monster went careening into another tree, causing a huge explosion.
Steve turned his attention away from the creeper. "So, can you tell me about this sea?"
The god laughed. "Of course. If you can handle a long story."
Steve seemed excited. "Sure!" He climbed down, sat against the tree, and nodded. The god sat down as well.
"Now...where do I start?"
