4 Film Favorites Batman Collection is a DVD set that has four Batman films: Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman and Robin. My review is about both the films and this particular DVD set.
The first film is Batman (a pretty simple title). It was directed by Tim Burton and has Michael Keaton as Batman. The film is about Gotham getting used to Batman, a vigilante. Jack Napier, a gangster, becomes a chaotic clown called the Joker. Batman tries to have a romance with Vicky Vale, a photographer, and stop the Joker.
Arguably the film's best element is the visuals. Tim Burton did a spectacular job at making a visually special film. The film has tons of style. Michael Keaton is a entertaining Bruce Wayne and a super cool Batman. Jack Nicholson is a solid Joker, but isn't as delightfully goofy as Cesar Romero. The film has flaws, but it is a well done film.
The second film is Batman Returns. In this film the Penguin sadly spent his life in the sewer, because of his cruel parents. He teams up with a harsh businessman, Max Shreck, and tries to become Gotham's mayor. Max's former secretary becomes a dangerous troublemaker called Catwoman.
Batman Returns often isn't considered to be as good as the previous film. However I like it more. Batman Returns is dark in a great way. The film is intense and wild, but it works well. The film is about being entertaining, not about any lessons. Because of that it's allowed to be as freaky and fun as Tim Burton wants without being offensive. The cast all do a great job at playing their crazy characters. The visuals aren't outdated. Both of Tim Burton's Batman films look impressive.
The third film is Batman Forever. This film and the next film were directed by Joel
Schumacher. In this film Batman meets a therapist, Chase Meridian, which makes him wonder if he should be Batman forever. Two-Face and the Riddler team up and try to find out Batman's secret identity. Thankfully Batman gets a new helper called Robin.
Batman Forever has Val Kilmer as Batman. He did a pretty good performance. This film is goofier than the previous films. The blockbuster antics make this film entertaining. Tommy Lee Jones (Two-Face) and Jim Carrey (the Riddler) are good at being fun loving villains.
The fourth is Batman and Robin. In this film Batman and Robin start arguing with each other. Also Poison Ivy and the cool Mr. Freeze team up. Thankfully a new hero, Batgirl, shows up.
Batman and Robin is a very hated film, but I think that it's underrated. Arnold Schwarzenegger (the chilling Mr. Freeze) and Uma Thurman (Poison Ivy) are delightfully silly. The action scenes are really good. George Clooney doesn't work as Batman, but he has been very nice about it in interviews. The film isn't a masterpiece, but it works at being fun.
The visuals on the DVDs are really good. All of the films are over 20 years old. Thankfully these DVDs and the films still look visually impressive. Tim Burton's films has intense looking visuals that look awesome. The other 2 films have outstanding visuals.
These DVDs don't have that many special features. The DVDs have an extra called production notes. It's about what it took to make the films. The DVDs have a small extra about other films that were on DVD at the time the DVDs came out.
All four of the Batman films in the DVD set have impressive acting, visuals, and fun entertainment. The 4 Film Favorites set lacks extras, but it's a great price.
