X Factor runner-up Rebecca Ferguson has confimed that she and One Direction's Zayn Malik are in love.

The unlikely couple were rumoured to be dating in March but many X Factor fans didn't believe the gossip because Rebecca is 6 years older than Zayn and has 2 young children.

'We're really in love and it's hard to see how negative things have become,' Rebecca, 24, reveals.

'I want people to know that I'm happy, he's happy and we're in a loving, caring relationship. It's sad that people are so against it.'

Rebecca says Zayn, 18, did all the running and took months to persuade her to date him.

'I was
like: "No, you're too young'",' she tells the News Of The World. 'But he really wooed me and it was a long,
long struggle before anything happened.

'[Zayn] is actually very mature. He's quiet and really, really nice. I've got a career, I've got my own record deal and money, and I've got my own life.

'I'm not gaining anything from this. It's genuine love.'

Zayn reckons he's a great boyfriend.

'I'd like to think I'm caring, considerate and pretty chilled out,' Zayn told Teen Now.

'I'm definitely loyal. I like to open doors for girls and that sort of thing - I like to feel as though I'm the protector.'

And Rebecca is definitely Zayn's type, though her eyes are brown.

'I've realised I go for brunettes with olive skin and
brightly coloured eyes,' he reveals.

'Eyes play a big part in my decision!'
