Hello, everyone! Peaceandlove67 here, or as most of you know me, Antonia. I decided to do a eulogy on my dog, Stone. Without further ado, let's get started.
Stone was a Rottweiler and one of only two male dogs I had, the other one being Diesel. Stone showed up out of the blue in early July 2012, so his date of birth is not known. When we took him to the vet, she estimated that he was about six months old, so his birthday might have been sometime in January. He had injured his paw, so the vet treated that. I named him Stone after hearing the Audioslave song, "Like a Stone". The lyrics reminded me of a dog's undying loyalty. "I'll wait for you there, like a stone." From the day I rescued him, he was very protective of me and my friends. He defended my friend, 60smusicluv (Jan), when she got bitten by our my nasty neighbor's dog.
Stone was protective, but he was also very gentle. He was gentle with all my friends. He was gentle with my new neighbor's children. He was even gentle with my newest dog, River. Stone was particularly close with Roxy, possibly because they were closest in age. He was also the only dog I ever had, other than Diesel and River, who never challenged the fact that Roxy was, and still is, the alpha dog, (she's not alpha of the family, though).
Sadly, all good things come to an end. Stone had a tumor in his stomach, and it was inoperable, so he had to be humanely euthanized. I miss him very much. I am glad to know that I still have Roxy and River. Hopefully, I'll have them around a while. My wish is that my remaining dogs will remain happy and healthy for many years to come, especially River, since she's the youngest.
I know some of you may ask this. Will I be getting another dog? Actually, yes, I will be. I won't get one right away. I'm going to give myself time to grieve. Roxy and River need time to grieve as well. I'm going to wait at least three months before getting another dog. I miss having a large dog around. I'm considering looking into a rescue center. I'll find a dog who's looking for a home, and he'll end up coming home with me.
Peace and love,
Peaceandlove67 (Antonia)
