It was a Saturday morning. Janis was resting comfortably in her bed. Stevie and Juneau roused her up, ready to go for their Saturday morning walk. She got dressed, ate breakfast, and took her dogs for a walk. Simon accompanied her with his dog, Timber. Timber was a German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix. Her father was half German Shepherd and half Siberian Husky, and her mother was a purebred Siberian Husky. As they walked the neighborhood, Janis said, "Shadow really loved to walk the neighborhood." Simon said, "He did. I remember that this lamppost was his favorite place to mark." She said, "That's right. It was. He also delighted in scaring away the neighborhood cats that frightened you so." The two friends laughed. Simon said, "Oh, he was quite a dog." After they made it back home, Janis said, "It was nice to talk about these memories of Shadow." Simon said, "Yes, it was. You know, I remember how gentle he was with my first dog, Winkle." Winkle was a Dachshund and a very spirited dog, but that's another story. Janis smiled. She said, "Yes, I remember that." Later, when Janis talked with Kelsey, Kelsey said, "My favorite memory of Shadow is when he protected me from that nasty neighbor's little dog when that monster bit me in the face." Janis said, "I remember that. He got that little bastard of a dog to back off, despite the fact that he was a puppy then." Kelsey said, "He was a great dog." Janis said, "He was." Later, Janis and her parents talked about some of their favorite memories of Shadow. At some moments, they laughed. At others, they cried. Ultimately, those memories were ones to be treasured.
