Fright. Dread. Questioning.
Each moment thrusted a new kind of horror upon Sylvia, one of the small spidermonkeys of the Central Park Zoo. The growling and deep snarls of some sort of horrible beast rebounded from inside her brick habitat, and she clung to the tree in horror.
"What is that nasty thing?! The Jersey Devil?!?"
She swung in a serpentine manner, reaching all the ropes and rungs on her tree till she achieved landing on the highest point of the habitat.
Sylvia peered down at the ground below. Artificial grass, circular enclosure, and her three fellow companions restfully dozing; Linda, Bobby, and Amber. But.... where was Cindy?
She leaped down to search around the immense rainforest inspired tree. Immediately she remembers of the snarls from before, and stumbles back when a ferocious grumble takes her by surprise.
"Who's there? Show yourself!"
Nothing responds except the snore of the other monkeys.
Sylvia grabs a twig, and trembling violently, aims it in the direction of the sound. Nothing has ever endangered her or her friends before, not even the time that those crazy penguins accidently set off a bomb near their habitat. Being unprepared and scared out of her wits, Sylvia is not making the brightest choices by staying on ground level to look for Cindy.
A tail brushes the floor and the glint of ivory teeth shine into a demented smile.
Sylvia shrieks and throws the stick at a black object in the shadows.
"Great, now I've lost the only thing that was even close to a weapon!"
The black object doesn't move, but she still sees the stick peeking out into the moonlight from under it. Sylvia looks all around for the monster, and then decides to retrieve the stick before anything else happens. She falls to her knees and pulls the stick from under a pile of...... fur? The monster's tail was scaly, so how could it be that she struck something of a thick coat? Sylvia ponders the question, and her curiosity gets the best of her. Her hand grabs one of the corpse's limbs, and she pulls with all her might. Out comes a brutally bitten Cindy, holding what appears to be a camera from one of the tourists.
"AAAAAH! CINDY! CINDY WAKE UP! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!?"
Sylvia shakes Cindy's head, but her blank expression remains the same. She looks up at the moon and cries out in sorrow; Cindy was her best friend, and one of the only animals that understood her as a newcomer.
She feels something grab her by the leg. A claw? A talon? Whatever it was, she felt it, and it crushed her bones.
Sylvia pauses her mourning to escape from the iron grasp of the beast. A howl comes out from her and reverberates off of the zoo walls. She yells help to the snoozing spidermonkeys, but before any of them can react, Sylvia is gone.

"Huh what?!"
Skipper soars out of his bunk. The calamity from outside had awoken him from his slumber, and whatever was going on, it was not good at all. He quickly looks up at his crew, still tired from the hard training he put them through yesterday. He didn't have enough time in his flippers to wait for their sluggish responses, so Skipper went with plan B.
"Guess I'm going solo on this one."
Skipper slides to the main exit.

My Collection of POM Haikus:
I can't sleep well one night and I made haikus to make me fall asleep. And here are the results....!
These are haikus that describe the penguins, the lemurs, and Marlene. I did it just for fun, nothing else!
Skipper, the leader,
Commands recons day and night;
Never swim alone.
K'walski, the smart one,
Best known as the "Options Guy";
Good golly wolly!
Rico has no doubt
He's the living wrecking ball;
Boom! Blam! Kablamo!
Private, the youngest
Loves unicorns and rainbows;
Winkies, ev'rywhere!
Julien, the royal
Puts his trust to sky spirits;
My moves are yummy!
Maurice, the aye-aye
Always serves the so-called king;
Wait-uh, what? Say what?!
Mort, the mouse lemur
Can't get over Julien's feet;
I question nothing!
Marlene, the otter's
Independent from both sides;
Yeah, have fun with that!
