Before I came to camp:
Marcus grabbed one of my chips off my plate. I growled at him. "Will you stop that?" i said to him before grabbing his brownie and stuffing it in my mouth.
"HEY! I just took a chip!" He whined, his brown eyebrows scrunching. His spiky brown hair had mustard in it but I didn't dare tell him, it was already too funny.
"Hey well you took half my chips AND my hot dog." That's kinda why you got mustard in your hair....
Lina suddenly plunked down her tray of food with an angry frown and frustrated blue eyes. "I HATE the lunch lady." Lina whined as she stuck a whole boiled egg in her mouth. "she wum binotub au colul suoit und wobnt vig me abontuer giklo!"
I rolled me eyes at the blonde girl. "Swallow first idiot."
She swallowed the contents in her mouth and spoke. "She was an being a total idiot and won't give me another cookie."
"You already have a million other desserts! Just eat them all and you'll already be on a sugar high!" Marcus bellowed.
I laughed and took a bite of my apple. It felt so weird now that the girls basketball team was done, season over and all. Baseball ended too....volleyball was okay but its over too....I turned my head and saw a posted on the cafeteria wall next to the trash cans.
Matten Junior High Track team try outs!
Outside on the field
3:30 You need a ride home
THANKS Coach Jace
I turned my head. "Lina, you want to try out for Track?" I asked her. She looked at me with a funny face... and a stuffed mouth.
"Okay Randi," Marcus began, "Now your just looking for a sport. We all know your bored to death now that there are hardly any sports left for you to play."
"Yea, but its true. And anyway, it might be good. I'm a fast runner so I'll probably make it in."
"I'll just come watch." My friend said after swallowing. "Anyone would want to see you blow your red-head top off if you lose." Suddenly the bell rang.
"Okay, well its after school." And I dumped my tray.
After School:
I leaned over to my leg to stretch. My Arms and legs ached. This is what I get with long legs....hard and painful stretching...
Suddenly, a high whistle blew in my ear. I jumped up and dusted off my Nike shorts. Everyone in the entire school knows my dad is a Nike designer and that I only own Nike clothes.
"OKAY PEOPLE!" Called out Coach Jace. He's the assistant baseball coach and the school's track coach. "I want you all to do as many laps as you can in 5 minutes. Then I am going to have you all race the track. UNDERSTAND! NOW EVERYONE GO TO THE STARTING POINT!"
I jogged downed to the beginning of the track, and breathed deep. Okay, Randi, you can do this. Three, two, one TWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! Called the whistle and I was racing down the track, my heart thumping. I laughed. I didn't actually realize.....until now. I like running. No....I love it. The wind through my hair, the heavy breathing, the movement. It makes me feel...relaxed. I can run fast in other sports...but a sport were you are supposed to run fast? Its amazing.
I heard a whistle and I skidded to a stop. Coach Jace waved an arm to call us over. I jogged down across the green grass to join the other sweaty girls. "That was good girls. But if you want to be on the team, you need to run at least 8-10 laps in 5 minutes. Annie, you got 10 laps, Maria you got 9 laps, Megan, you got 6 laps, Lilly you got 9 laps....."
I tapped my foot impatiently as he listed off all the names. Come on...tell me how many i got...
"And Randi, this is remarkable, you got 15 laps!"
My jaw dropped. Fifteen...fricking...laps. FIFTEEN LAPS! FIFTEEN LAPS! FIFTEEN FRICKING LAPS! I couldn't believe I could run that much in FIVE MINUTES! I was making the track team for sure.
Coach Jace lead us to the beginning of the race starting line. I stretched my leg out, my heart racing. I was going to win this, and I didn't care what the others thought. I. was. going. to. win.
Annie, a girl who got 10 laps stared at me. She frowned. "Your fast. You may have gotten 15 laps last time, but I'm the fastest and I've always been on the team. So be ready to loose."
I smiled at her. "Shut up. I NEVER lose. Never." The whistle blew, and my body jumped as i sprinted as fast as i could down the track, my hair flying, my legs racing, my blood rushing, everything in my body going FAST. Like I just had an adrenaline rush. I smiled as I saw annie and everyone else run behind me, and I knew my victory was coming. Until I found annie tapping my shoulder.
"Bye." she said smiling. and then she ran. I growled. I wasn't going to lose. I don't lose. I never lose. I wont let myself lose. I have to win. I felt like...if i didn't lose.....I'd feel horrible. I hate losing. I know I'm competitive....but I've always been. But for some reason being competitive now felt like my strength and the key to winning.
I sped up as fast as i could, and as i looked behind me, i realized that they were all behind me again. I felt like i was on air. Behind the school gate...I was passing cars. I was passing tree's so fast that it didn't seem real.
I felt more happy then I have ever felt, since I last won. And I don't like anything more then winning Now I know. The only thing I like more than winning, is running.
I stopped at the finish line, skidding to a stop and I realized that the place I had stopped at, was steaming. I looked up at Coach Jace, who's face was with pure shock.
"R-Randi....you....you...ran...r-r-ran..."
"Did I win?" I asked him.
He nodded, his face not changing from the shocked expression.
I smiled, knowing that I had just won. Yes.
A frustrated and mad Annie stomped up to me, and punched me in the face. I stared at her.
"What the crud Annie!" i screamed. Suddenly, her tongue slithered out of her mouth like a snakes.
"Ssssstupid Me. I ssssshould have known you were a demigod. Now I kill you."
And suddenly, she changed, her eyes going from a simple blue to a snake's eyes that put goose bumps on my arms. She grew a tail, and her hands turned to fangs. I gulped, then knowing that all I could do, was run, run as fast as I could, as fast as i had just ran, all the way to my Dad's work. Behind me i saw her slithering down the sidewalks, chasing me.
The large Nike base was covered in glass windows that shined. I pulled open the door and ran past confused workers and glass display cases filled with Nike shoes and trophy's. I ran up the stairs and all the way into the Nike shoe design department.
"DAD!" I screamed as I ran down to his cubicle.
"Randi?" He asked with a confused face. "What are you doing here! Your supposed to be at school! And why are you running so fast-" He stopped, and his eyes got large. "No...no...NO NO NO NO! NOT YET! NOT YET! YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO KNOW YET!I WAS GOING TO TELL YOU WHEN YOU WERE 18!" He screamed with his head in his hands.
"Dad! I don't know what your talking about but a snake girl tried to attack me at school when I ran faster than anything at a track tryout!" I yelled out. But I wasn't going to cry. I never cry.
My Dad put his hand on my shoulders. "I'm sorry Randi...but....I'm going to take you somewhere. And I'm never going to see you again after that."
My hopes fell. What? I didn't get it.
"DAD! WHY! WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT? WHY CAN I RUN FAST? WHY AM I BEING CHASED?"
He sighed with a depressed face "Randi, its about your mother."
"My mother? You said she died when I wa-"
"I KNOW WHAT I SAID!" He yelled. Around us co workers surrounded the cubicle. "I'm taking you to New york."
"New York? But that's on the other side of the United States! Are you staying with me there?"
He shook his head. "I....I don't want you anymore. You mother Nike told me to take you there if you ever were found out...she said she's a minor goddess so you could live your entire life without knowing. I'm...I'm sorry. But I don't want anything to do with the Greek gods and such. I don't want you anymore."
"What?" I asked, my body shaking. I didn't understand fully what he was talking about...about my mom being Nike...whoever that is or him not wanting to do with the Greek gods. But I Didn't cry. My body may have shaken and I may have felt abandoned. But I didn't cry.
