Shrek 2Recommended to King Harold by Doris (the Ugly Stepsister and barmaid of the Poison Apple Inn) as a famous ogre assassin, Puss is hired by the king to assassinate Shrek. However, unlike his fairy tale counterpart, he does not try to trick the ogre into changing into a mouse, but instead makes a direct, frontal assault on Shrek, which works up until the feline gags on a hairball, spitting it up. Shrek and Donkey think of what to do with him as Donkey even proposes to give him the "Bob Barker treatment", but the swashbuckling cat begs for his life. Puss claims to have taken the contract to help his poor family, consisting of a litter of siblings, a sick mother and a father who lives off garbage. Ultimately, they spare his life, and Puss proposes to the ogre he owes a life debt to him, in thanks. Although there is some tension/rivalry between Puss and Donkey (who seems nervous that Puss is taking his place as "annoying talking animal" and as Shrek's best friend), the three eventually become close friends and allies.

Puss in Boots, is an upcoming computer-animated adventure film being produced by DreamWorks Animation, directed by Chris Miller (who directed Shrek the Third in 2007), executive produced by Guillermo del Toro (Splice, Blade II, Pan's Labyrinth), starring Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek, and written by Tom Wheeler. It is set to be released in theaters November 4, 2011 in 3D and IMAX 3D.[1]

The film is based on and follows the character of Puss in Boots from Shrek and his adventures before his first appearance in 2004's Shrek 2. The prequel's story centers on the swashbuckling cat and how he comes to meet Shrek and his friends, while introducing new characters as well.


The film has been in development since 2004, when Shrek 2 was released.[2] As a Shrek 2 spin-off, it was originally planned for release in 2008 as a direct-to-video film[3], but this was changed in 2006 in favor of a theatrical release.[4] Production on the film began after the release of 2010's Shrek Forever After. Puss in Boots is scheduled for release on November 4, 2011 and is sure to excite Shrek fans everywhere. As you can tell from the poster above, Puss is suave as ever, but watch out! Because he will turn in an instant and strike you with those beautiful eyes that make your heart melt like a homemade chocolate chip cookie! Yes, even the men.

The film covers the the adventures of Puss prior to meeting Shrek and donkey. Antonio Banderas will be the voice of Puss, as usual, while Zach Galifianakis will be the voice of Humpty Dumpty. Salma Hayek, a street-savvy kitty, will also join in and be a part of the adventure. The film is being directed by David Miller, who directed Shrek the Third, so we hope this movie is all that we hope for and more. We included a picture below as well as the trailer.
