Why do people come on here and claim to be someone they're not?

1.To be a troll
2.To be an attention whore
3.To have popularity
4.to feel good about themselves
5.To roleplay

And a myriad of other reasons.

Because they want to be attention whores and feel good about themselves.

Because they are attention seekers.
They look for attention, and pity, and admiration from others.
Since they probably can't do that in real life, they come on here and pretend.

They want people to feel bad for them.
It's most likely that when you're feeling sorry for them, and trying to make them feel better when they are "Down", they are behind their computer screens feeling successful and laughing at you.

I hate people like that. -_-

Because they want attention. Nothing more, nothing less.

That depends really.
1. They could be bored of who they are and wish for exciemtent
2. They are jealous of who they want to be and therefore pretend to be said person to experience their lifestyle
3. trolling, just for attention
4. Could be the actual person, making a fake account pretending to be themselves (if that makes sense) to 'test the waters' so to speak before officially joining a club/site.

After all, if i were famous i wouldn't fan girls/boys screaming in my face all the time XD

To get sympathy and attention from others.

They're attention whores who have no lives so they create fake ones to make it look like there's actually something interesting about them when there clearly isn't.

Maybe the LIKE to look like they have the I.Q. of a turd! No, but they just wanna be the center of attention is why. UGH.

People are just attention-whores -.- yes, some attention is nice... but pretending to be someone completely different is just idiotic.

Oh no, I'm sure they're telling the truth. Hardly anyone lies about who they are. Oh by the way, did I tell you that I'm actually Tohru Honda? Yup, my boyfriend even turns into a cat anytime I touch him.

Because in real life, I'm tortured so I come here to hide it so the idiots won't come torture me.

I know it seems wierd for people to make up un-awesome lives as opposed to amazing ones, however somewhere in a wierdo human minds that if we say stuff like "My mom was killed right infront of me" or something along those lines, then people will give us sympathy. While in reality, they arent giving us anything, theyre feeding our alter-egos, and making us think that "Oh, this is a good thing, maybe if I make my alter-ego's life evn more suck-ish, than i'll get more attention."
I guess humans are just stupid that way. I mean, we say were smart, but we trick ourselves so easily.

I pretend to be the sorting hat for fun.

Either their bored,wants to roleplay,or just want attention.

In all honesty, I've been tempted to do that a few times. Not for any of the reasons other people said (i.e. attention), but just to see if I could. Test myself, because I think even if I tried, my real personality would still come out.

Were I to do that, however, I'd probably just join a bunch of fanclubs about things I don't like, and answer things the opposite way from what I normally do. I wouldn't make up a sob story. So...

In short, everyone else is probably right. 85% of the time, that is.

The internet is great for escapism....as are many other things.......but this ones accessible to most all.

They could just want our attention. I know some people like to do that. Or maybe they want to make friends so they want to pose off for something they are not just to get us to like them.
